Gingham Flower Card

Our lovely guest designer, Shelly Newkirk, has another way to show off her cute gingham flowers.

Classy Cards 'n Such products used:
For today's card, cut a card base of 11" x 4.25". Using the 11" side, score the card at 2.75" and 5.50". Fold to match  the photo above.

The back panel of the card is embossed using the M-Bossablities by Spellbinders - Flora folder. If you don't want to emboss the back panel, you can take a separate piece of cardstock measuring 4.25" x 5.50", emboss it with the same embossing folder and then just attach to the front side of the back panel.

The window box for the flowers, was cut free hand from a piece of medium brown card stock. The edges were sponged with Tim Holtz Dark Brown Distress Ink pad. I glued flat pieces of a paper egg carton to the back of the window box for dimension and then attached to the front of the card.

I inked up the Impression Obsession Gingham Cover-A-Card  stamp in different colors and stamped on white card stock. Next I used various flower punches or dies to cut out my flowers. The edges of the flowers were also sponged with the dark brown ink pad.

For the centers of the flowers, I used dark brown card stock and embossed it using a small design embossing folder. Then I used different circle punches and dies to make the flower centers.

The stems of the flowers were made by gluing two pieces of the Augusta Green Linen paper together and cutting about 1/8" wide. Glue to the card base on an angle, hiding the stem ends under the window box. Next, glue the flowers on top of the stems.

For the leaves, I also used the Augusta Green Linen paper to match the flower stems. Cut a 2" wide strip. Fold in half the long way. Run it through a paper crimper on an angle. Leave folded and hand cut a half leaf, making sure the angles run toward the leaf tip. Unfold and you have a perfect leaf.

*You could also run the paper through the paper crimper and use a leaf die cut to achieve the same effect*

Cute card! Thanks Shelly!!

Pink Scallops

Hi Classy friends!  It's Holly posting today, and I've got a pink, pink, and pink card to share with y'all.  LOL!

Isn't that pink???  I created this card using dies from the new My Favorite Things Blueprints 3 and Blueprints 4  die sets, and various shades of pink cardstock.

I started by stamping the sentiment from You Are Beautiful (Impression Obsession) with black ink at the top of the white layer.

Cut eight layers of the scallop border from the Blueprints 4 - two each of four different colors. I started by layering the darkest pink scallop borders at the bottom, then the next shade of pink, then the lightest shade of pink and I ended with two layers of white scallops.

To top off the scallops, I cut the darkest shade of pink cardstock with the pierced straight border die from Blueprints 3 and adhered that above the white scallops.  I trimmed the excess borders from the sides of the white layer and then adhered this layer to a dark pink card base (A2 size).

Next, I cut the three shades of pink cardstock with the small flower die from the Blueprints 3.  I pinched the petals with my fingers to give them a little dimension before adhering some white buttons to the centers and then I affixed the flowers to the card.

Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, I thought the pink colors and that wonderful sentiment would be perfect for someone who might be going through chemotherapy or radiation.  Hopefully this card will put a smile on her face and brighten her day.

A pretty card to brighten up someone's day! Thanks Holly!!

The Simple Things in Life

It's October with a hint of fall in the air. The cooler nights in my part of the country make me think of fall.
So I am bringing to the Classy Cards 'n Such blog today a pretty fall card. What can be better then a wheelbarrow full of pumpkins, gourds and bittersweet?

This lovely stamp is from the Autumn Blessings by Flourishes. I stamped it on watercolor paper and colored it in with my Tim Holtz Distress Ink Markers.

The wonderful sentiment is one I love, "Give Thanks for the simple things in life". It is part of the same Autumn Blessings stamp set.

I cut out a French Pastry Doily Die by Cheery Lynn Designs and Decorative Labels Decorative Labels Eight by Spellbinders using the Vintage Blue 6" x 6" paper pad by Glitz Designs. I also added a ribbon under the layers for a hint of color.

*A smaller version of the French Pastry Doily Die is also available in the store called French Pastry Tiny Doily.*

A few other items I used to make my card:

Crafter's Tools by Cheery Lynn Designs - these are wonderful to use with the intricate dies.
Scor-Tape 1/2" - I use every time to adhere the layers on my cards. It comes in several other widths as well, you can find it here.

Thank you for visiting!

Colorful Poppy

Hi, it's Misti!

After years of seeing an awesome stamp set, buying it and then not using it, I changed how I purchase stamps... most of the time!  *grin*   Now, I try to think about how much the stamp set is and  how many different ways I can use that stamp set.

When I saw the JustRite Botanical Medallions and Banners stamp set, I knew it was going to be a versatile set.  I've used it a couple of other times already... you can see the cards here and here.  I like the fact that even using the poppy, the cards look completely different. And I haven't even used all of the stamps in the set!

I used ivory cardstock for my base and for my image panel.  The stamped image was colored with Tim Holtz Distress Ink Markers and the Tim Holtz Water Brush, using the colors listed above in the supplies list.

Using the Nested Oval Medallion Labels Dies, I cut my image panel and the black accent layer. I built my card around that panel.

The black patterned paper and  the burgundy solid paper are both from the French Country 6" x 6" paper pad by Graphic 45. The great thing about using papers from the same paper pad, is it usually cuts the guessing down about if they are going to match.

I cut my burgundy paper into a long panel and made it just a little bit bigger than the medallion panel.  I really wanted the patterned paper to show.

The Eggshell Seam Binding is beautiful with this.  I added the smallest size Black Pearls in the corner of the burgundy panel.

I am sure you'll be seeing more cards from me using this set!

Your card is just "poppin" with color! Thanks Misti!!

Seek and Save

Hello! Shelly Newkirk, one of our guest designers, has another card to share with us! We invite you to follow along as she shares how she made her card.

Classy Cards 'n Such products used in this design

Labels Twenty-Nine by Spellbinders
A2 Matting Basics A by Spellbinders
Victorian Romance Flourish by Cheery Lynn Designs
Winter 2011 Seasonal Ink Pads by Tim Holtz - Bundled Sage
Cardstock - Sage Green and White
Embossing - Floral folder
Designer paper
Adhesive - glue

I started with a piece of 3.75 x 5 inch white cardstock and embossed it in a floral folder. I layered the embossed piece over a panel of sage green cardstock and trimmed the green to a narrow border and then centered and attached it to an A2 (4.25 x 5.5 inch) card front.

Using Spellbinders Labels Twenty-Nine, I selected one of the dies that will fit over the embossed layer yet leave enough of the embossing exposed to add texture to the design.

I placed the Labels Twenty-Nine on white cardstock and centered an A2 Matting Basics A die inside the Labels Twenty-Nine. Once I had it placed so that it was centered, I taped it down with low tack masking tape.  I cut and embossed. (Remember to  leave the tape on for the embossing step.)  You have now made a frame.

I sponged the outer edges of the frame with Winter 2011 Seasonal Ink Pads by Tim Holtz - Bundled Sage Distressed Ink. I attached pieces of a paper egg carton to the back of the frame for dimension. You could use pop dots, foam mounting tape, etc.

I selected a piece of DP (aka – design paper or scrapbook paper), and cut a piece that was slightly larger than the opening of the frame. I glued the frame onto the DP and attached the layers to the card front.

The computer generated Scripture is also raised with paper egg carton and then centered inside the frame.  Any phrase or greeting that is small enough to allow the DP to show around the edges will work.

Using white cardstock, I cut a Cheery Lynn Designs Victorian Romance Flourish. I sponged with the Winter 2011 Seasonal Ink Pads by Tim Holtz - Bundled Sage and cut apart. (See card above how I cut the flourish). I used a tooth pick to apply very small dots of glue to the back of this type of die cut.  The edges of the pieces did hang over part of the frame.  Where appropriate, I used a small scissors and trimmed the flourish even with the edge of the frame.

For the finishing touch, three pearls were added to the lower right corner of the frame using an Ice White Viva Decor Pearl Pen.

What a pretty card! Thanks Shelly!!
