Black sculpture

A side entrance of the former stock exchange building has a sculpture which unfortunately has become very dirty by polluted air in the centre of Amsterdam.

It is an image of "Hugo de Groot" (1583-1645) a Dutch jurist and writer.
Have a look "here" for a better image before it had become black.

Commodity exchange

This is the "Beurs van Berlage" at the Damrak in the centre of Amsterdam. It was designed as a commodity exchange by architect Berlage and constructed between 1896 and 1903. It influenced many modern architects in particular functionalists and the Amsterdam School. It is now used as a venue for concerts, exhibitions and conferences. On 2 Februari 2002 the civil ceremony of the wedding of our then Crown Prince Willem Alexander and Princes Maxima took place here.

We went for an exhibition inside the building. The interior itself is an exhibit in itself.

The exhibition was in the cellars of the building.

We saw the impressive safe doors to the safe room.

With the safes.

These were the telephone cabins for the options traders.

A door to the bandage room?? I have visions of fighting men on the workfloor.
About the exhibition we saw here I will show you tomorrow.
