Lille (2)

All those thousends visitors of the Brocante in Lille wanted to eat something, so there were many terraces with benches to sit down to tables.

The main menu is mussels with french fries and this is what remains, a huge mountain of mussel shells outside the restaurant.

There was some entertainment too, here from Indians making music.

I tried to look up so now and then because Lille has some beautiful buildings in the inner city, as here the  "Vielle Bourse" (old stock exchange) at the Grand Place.

With a great courtyard where you could buy all kind of books and big plastified photos. I bought two of them one of a Paris cafe and the other one of some famous actors sitting in a bar, a very funny one.

The Opera building at the Place du Theatre.

The Porte de Paris one of the town-gates of Lille.

On our way to the bus we passed this huge choice of beer glasses.

The end of the day everybody walks home with full bags in the floodlight of the sunset.

Lille, Fleamarket

Yesterday we visited the biggest fleamarket in Europe in the city Lille in France. You can see we were not the only ones who had the idea. From our hometown Almere, a bus drove us in 3 hours all the way to France. The bad part is you have to get up very early because the bus departs at 6.45 a.m. but the best part is you don't have to park your car. The bus picked us up at 7.30 p.m. and at 11.30 we arrived exhousted in Almere again.

But there is a lot to see, from real antic furnitures to funny things.

A bit huge to paint your nails.

Don't know what this was used for, an ashtray?

A bizar way to use a stuffed wolf.

This man was playing a music machine.
I have lots of  more photos I'll show you next time, in the meantime you can have a look at hubby's blog

Animals in Lille

Not only children were pushed around in Lille, this doggie had his own buggy.

First I thought this man had a dog jumping against his legs.

It happened to be a goat! He was walking around with him on a roap.

Lille

As I mentioned yesterday I went to the big flea-market in Lille last Saturday. It was a beautiful bright warm day but the city was so crowded with so many people that we felt a bit stuffy. It was like a Queensday in Amsterdam, everybody tries to sell their old things, street after street. When we saw something interesting it was very expensive. So in the end I only bought a poster and my daughter some clothes.

We tried to catch a glimpse of the old city and climbed on the stairs of a building to have a look over the crowds.

There was a bookmarket in the courtyard of the old stock exchange.

At a terrace we had lunch with a "Galette", a buckwheat flour pancake. I had it garnished with potatoes and ham, my daughter with mushrooms.

The main menu however this day is the shell-fish "Mussels with French fries". You saw it offered everywhere and these are the remains.

We found a rare quiet place here.

Where my daughter made this picture of me. At twelve o'clock midnight we arrived home again, where we tumbled in our beds. What a day!

Monday Mural

I have been to the city Lille in France North last saturday. At 6.45 am my daughter and me got a bus from Almere to Lille for a 3 1/2  hour ride. Lille has the biggest flea-market in Europe at September 1 and from many countries people come to the city. You can imagine what a circus that must be with all the traffic and people who enter the city. We arrived at 10.15 and walked around until 7.00 pm!
When we were sitting exhausted on a bench to wait for our bus I saw this mural in front of me which I really like. I don't know anything about the artist, when I enlarged the photo, I could see a name like Isham who is a graffiti artist, but his works looks very different from this one.
Tomorrow I'll show you some pictures of Lille. See for more Monday Murals here
