People

When I walk in crowds I like to watch other people.  At the market in Spakenburg I spotted this fancy  dressed lady.

The look of the boy at that costume.

I didn't see how this looked like on the front side...

Signs, signs

A sign pointing to the Spakenburg Museum with a notice to the terrace behind, where we had a coffee with a very delicious "Plak" a kind of flat butter cake.

At the terrace I noticed  a canvas with these ladies who had participated in the "Day of the most beautiful kraplap" in 2013".

Craftsmanship

At the Fair in Spakenburg several craftsmen were selling their products. This man was producing ships in a bottle.

It is always fascinating to see how they manage this.

Little purses.

Making fishing nets. although these seem more for decoration.

This is the real one used by fishermen.

These women demonstrated the starching and ironing of the special "kraplap", the coloured shoulderpiece they are wearing.

Wicker baskets in all kind of shapes.

Folklore

Yesterday we visited a little village Spakenburg with a folkloristic market. In the old times women in the country used to wear costumes which indicated the village where they came from. So this one is typical for Spakenburg/Bunschoten.

Very special here is the shoulder piece called the "kraplap" which is not made of cardboard but from very starched fabric. It has different patterns and rhe fabric used to be handpainted.

The children had their own costumes and this lady explained to the public all the different ins and outs of the folklore.

This cutie was stumbling around in front of me.

And had to be comforted by her mom when she had fallen on the street.

The youngest were just looking beautiful in their pram.

Then we got a little dance by the children.

But it was a warm day and some had enough of the uncomfortable costumes.

So back to playtime again.
