Open Bridge

Amsterdam has many bridges and many shipping through the canals, so you have to wait often for an open bridge. This woman dives in her handbag....

to get a cigarette and her iPhone to make the wait more pleasant.

A bike

A very new looking bike attached to a bridge is rather unusual in Amsterdam. Most Amsterdam people ride an old one in order to avoid it is stolen. I noticed the name on the frame and looked it up at internet. The "Veloretti bicycles" is a small and independent bicycle brand based in the historic city center of Amsterdam. The company is founded by a couple of enthusiasts with a passion for design and retro bikes. Their bikes are not mass-produced and they will keep it that way. I like it and
I think it was placed here by the company itself as advertisement as the tires look very clean.

Bagsvaerd Church

A white fence in the complete white Bagsvaerd Church in Copenhagen designed in 1968 by Danish architect "Jorn Utzon" ( 1918-2008) most notable for designing the Sydney Opera House in Australia.

It is considered to be a masterpiece of contemporary church architecture, thanks to its naturaly illuminated interior and its ceiling straddled with softly-rounded vaulting.

Even the ship was white.

From the outside it didn't quite looked like a traditional church.

National Museum

When visiting the "The National Museum of Denmark" in Copenhagen, there was a lot going on inside. We didn't quite understand but there was a celebration of something with music and the entrance was free for everyone!

A girl was singing a Danish song and it was funny to see all the people around leaning over the balustrades. We watched a very interesting exhibition about very old excavations of people living before the Vikings but it was to dark inside to make photo's. By the way the exhibition about the Vikings that toured around  the world in 2013 and we saw in Assen, came from this museum.

In front of the museum an old horse-drawn beer cart was standing for the occasion.

This gate was offered in 1854 by the municipality of Harderwijk and some residents.

Demolition finished

Maybe you remember my post a few weeks ago about the demolition of a big bank building in the center of Amsterdam with the "eating dinosaur". Look here for the post. Well I passed yesterday and noticed the building has gone, only some concrete remains are left.

I didn't climb on the fence but held my camera above my head.

The raise and fall of a building that was here only since the eighties. The cellar is the base and foundation for the new building so a kind of recycling in the construction Two shopping buildings will raise here, one of them will be hired by Marks & Spencer the other one becomes a luxury department store.

At the Zoo (3)

It had been quite some time ago I had been in the Amsterdam Zoo "Artis". In the meantime the zoo had been modernised to my surprise. The last time I was here the zoo was very old fashioned and I felt so sorry for the animals locked up in small cages. Fortunately opinions have changed now to reduce the diversity of animals and give them a more natural space. I still think those animals better can stay in their natural habitat and not in a zoo but that is a long story with pros and cons I will not enter here.

Anyway there is now a new big savanna with zebras and giraffes surrounded by water with the above foothpath along.

Whan I was walking there mister Peacock passed me in a hurry.

He suddenly stopped in front of me.

And with one jump he was suddenly on the fence, showing his beautiful tail.

The next moment he made a huge jump over the water to the other side to the savanna. It went so fast I couldn't capture it only that he was now walking on the other side at the savanna.
