Patatje (2)

Do you remember my post of september 24,  "look here" about the Dutch street snack "het patatje"?

Well here at the beach I saw this trio enjoying their patatje, this time not in a paper bag but a plastic one. The three birds are patiently waiting for maybe a little piece and make a nice composition with the other three.

A lot of aeroplanes in the air at the beach.

Dunes

To reach the beach you have to walk down through the dunes which are important in protecting the land against potentional ravages by storm waves from the sea.

Or use the stairs.

The dunes are planted with marram grass to keep the sand together.

The old dunes, more landward are overgrown with bushes. In the distance you can see the skyline of the government city the Hague.

To our surprise there were still some flowers in the dunes although it is autumn. We are enjoying a kind of Indian summer with cold nights but lots of sunshine during the day with temperatures of 17 degrees C (62.6 F).

The North Sea

The North Sea coastline has low and high tides and you can see it is low tide here.

You can walk in a way on the bottom of the sea which has made waves in the sand, watch the little footsteps of the seagulls.

And the big steps of men.

The tide was coming up when we were there, we saw the sea coming closer to the beach. The sea was very calm and flat yesterday, but it can be very raging with dangerous high waves.

For these little toddlers the undeep sea is a nice playground.

On the horizon we could see big ships sailing maybe to the UK or Germany.
