Row the boat

An amateur rowing club I spotted in Zwolle in 2013. They came from Kampen , that is about 20 km far, and they have to row back again I suppose...

A mural in the city of Zwolle, I suppose it is made for a dancing behind the windows.

Zwolle

Zwolle is a municipality and the capital city of the province Overijssel, 120 km northeast of Amsterdam. It has a long history which goes back to 800 when it was founded by Frisian merchants and troops of Charlemagne. In 1230 the bishop of Utrecht granted Zwolle city rights and it became a member of the Hanseatic league in 1294.

It was rather difficult to make photos of the church at the marketplace. Because of  the weekly market  stands I couldn't get  the right distance. The rain didn't help either to make pictures and keep my camera dry.

A glass angel had landed at the market place. It is made by Herman Lamers.

And a pretty sight  at the Sassengate in the background.

Museum "de Fundatie"

Museum "de Fundatie" in Zwolle has a spectacular extension added to the building after renovations. It lookes like a spaceship has landed on top.

On the outside the superstructure is clad with 55.000 white-blue tiles. The large oval window offers a view of the historic inner city.

Inside the"cloud" you have two levels, at the top you have a look at the city through the oval window which I showed you in last Sundays post.

As there are only round walls the photo exhibition of  "Pieter Henket" had to be placed in special concrete blocks with a glass pad.

A glass elevator takes you to the top.

But you can also go by stairs and then you meet this inviting guy.

Monday Mural

In Zwolle I walked in a small alley with a long wall at one side which was painted in all different parts. This one with the eyes had a funny text  I'll try to translate in english. 

"Hello neighbour, is it okay I peek for a moment, because I am so curious what is behind your wall". 

The open eye has a hole to watch through. In dutch it is on rhyme and sounds more rhythmic.

Zwolle

A view from Museum the Fundatie in Zwolle at the tower of the "Basilica Our Lady Assumption". The nickname of this tower is "the pepper shaker" due to its shape. The tower is 75 meters high and dates originally from 1463 but after several fires its current shape with the cupola top is from 1815.

It is a very wet weekend here at the moment as you can see at the raindrops on the window. Our summer has lasted only one week so far.
