River Amstel

A view at the river Amstel with the "Hoge Sluis" bridge and the Amstel Hotel in the sunlight.

A little further on the Theatre "Carre".

And a view over the wide river.

Grey

The days are grey and misty at this time of the year.. Here a view at the river Amstel in Amsterdam.

But some birds bring some colour.

River Amstel

Grey days in winter at the river Amstel in Amsterdam. In the street over the bridge we lived for seven years in the seventies,  so I crossed this bridge many times.

This exotic Egyptian Goose I can't remember I saw here in those days. Some of them have escaped captivity  in our country during the seventies and they have multiplied very fast. They seem to feel very well at ease in our country and now you see them everywhere.

Open Bridge

Amsterdam has more than 1500 bridges and they have to be opened several times a day tho let the boats pass by. This drawbridge is for boats the last connection from the river IJ to the river Amstel. They have to pass some narrow canals to reach here.

I always like to watch what kind of boats pass by. This one didn't look like a yacht.

It was an endless long boat.

It looked liked it never ended,

It reached to the two shores of the river Amstel to get out of the bridge.

And now it had to make a very sharp bend to get in the right direction. It was amazing to see how the skipper was handling the ship.

And a few meters on he had to pass the next drawbridge, the Skinny Bridge.

So warm

It was an unusual warm weekend for the time of the year, 27 C (80.6 F) degrees. We sometimes have these temperatures in midsummer but not in fall. I had a walk along the river Amstel where many people were chilling in the parc or cool down on the water.

Little Chihuahua had fun too.

You can see the sunlight is autumn-light it is a bit misty. In english you call this an "Indian Summer", in dutch we say "Old Woman Summer"(oudewijvenzomer),  but I can't translate it exactly, it is more "wifey"? In Wikipedia you can read that each country has his own name for it.
