Swimming in the Sea

Here is a fun sport themed card in honor of the Summer Olympics.

The card is 4"x8" and made of kraft card stock.  The background mat is 3 3/4"x7 3/4" and made of white card stock.  I then used a stamp from the Spring Splatters stamp set by Jaded Blossom to create the background.  I used three different Distress Inks for the effect: tumbled glass, salty ocean, faded jeans.  The sentiment is from Mermaid Kisses by Jaded Blossom.

The swimmer is from the "All Sports" Cricut cartridge.  I then cut two more pieces of the water to create the layered effect.  The front waves are from the "Life is a Beach" cartridge.  I used two layers of foam tape for the swimmer and one layer of foam tape on the front waves for some added dimension.  I outlined the front waves with star dust Stickles and the background waves with glossy accents.  I also used some waterfall Stickles on the water droplets by her arms.

The mat on the inside of the card is 3 3/4"x7 3/4."  I used a stamp from the Fired Up stamp set by Jaded Blossom for the sentiment.

I made this for the following challenges:
Jaded Blossom: crafter's choice
Color Throwdown: color combo
Fantabulous Cricut: summer activities
My Sheri Crafts: sports theme
Pile It On: create your own background
Cut It Up: summertime memories

Sea Life Wall Art

I mentioned in my post yesterday, that I had been in Washington visiting my friends and their 9 month old baby.  I made a name sign for their son a while back, you can see that here, and gave it to them while we were visiting.  My husband hung the signs up and I decorated the wall next to it with some vinyl cut in sea life inspired shapes.

The name sign was made with "Extreme Fonts" and "Art Nouveau."  For more information, see the original post, here.

Here is a better look at the sea life wall.

The sea weed is from "Life is a Beach."
The fish is from "Four Legged Friends."  I just eliminated a couple of layers and flipped it.
The bubbles are from "A Child's Year."  I flipped them to work with the fish.

The sea weed is from "Word Builders 3: An Ocean of Words."
The fish and bubbles are from "This & That."  This is a Creative Memories cartridge.

The octopus is from "ZooBalloo."
The bubbles on the right are from "A Child's Year."  Like bubbles with the fish, they are flipped.
The bubbles on the left are from "Kate's ABCs."  They are just two of the bubbles in the bubble bath word title.

Beach Bird

Today's card is 5 1/2"x4 1/4."  I used white card stock for the base.  The purple mat is 5 3/8"x4 1/8" and the pink polka dot mat is 5 1/4"x4."

The bird is from "3 Birds on Parade" (page 33) and was cut at 3 1/2."  The waves are from "Life is a Beach" (page 45) and they were cut at 1 1/2."  The sand was hand cut and covered in glitter.  The stamp shape is from "Elegant Edges" (page 37) and was cut at 4 1/4."  I embossed it with a Darice embossing folder called "Clouds."

I gave the bird a set of eyes from Peachy Keen Stamps, the Cartoon Bombshell Face Assortment.  I accented the eyes with a white gel pen and used some magenta chalk to add a little blush to her cheeks.  I then adhered her to the card with foam tape.

The sentiment is from Scrappy Moms Stamps.  The "warm" is from a sentiment that actually reads "cocoa warms the heart," from the Winter Wishes set.  I masked off all parts except the "warm."  "Birthday Wishes!" is from the Simple Sentiments set.  I then added some pink gems for a little bling.

I made this for the following challenges:
Fantabulous Cricut: project related to the beach
Cardz TV: child's birthday
Die Cuttin' Divas: beach inspired project

Art Deco - Creation #7

This card is 5 1/2"x4 1/4."  I used a pre-made white card from DCWV for the card base.  The red mat is 5 3/8"x4 1/8" and the white mat is 5 1/8"x3 7/8."  I embossed the white mat with the clouds embossing folder by Darice.  I cut a strip of blue cardstock from Core'dinations at 3 7/8"x2."  I tore the top part of the strip to expose the lighter blue core for my water.
The ocean liner is cut from "Art Deco" at 4 1/2."  I used a stamp from Scrappy Moms Stamps for my sentiment, it is from the "Mini Messages" set.  I heat embossed it with some white embossing powder.  The ship is adhered to the card with foam tape.
I used "Life is a Beach" for the waves.  The larger strip of them is cut at 2" and the smaller strip is cut at 1 1/2."  I distressed the tops of the wave crests with some sandpaper.  I adhered the bottom parts of the strips of waves, leaving the top parts loose for even more dimension.

Another Pirate Layout

One of the challenge blogs I follow, Stuck On U Sketches,  is celebrating their 100th sketch!  How could I not play along this week?!  I used this sketch to created another layout for my Science Museum album, featuring the "Real Pirates" exhibit.

*Bonus: this layout also features some hidden journaling!

It is 12"x12" and I used some patterned cardstock from the Tahiti Beach Stack by DCWV for the background.  I created the frame in Cricut Craft Room.  I sized two squares using Cricut Craft Room Basics and layered one inside the other to create a frame, the larger square is 11" and the smaller one is 10 1/2."  I then welded in some waves from Life is a Beach to the bottom of the frame.  I cut another layer of waves for some color.  I added star dust Stickles to the waves for some shimmer.  My photos were printed and trimmed down to fit.  I adhered them so their bottoms were under the waves.

I used Pirates and Mermaids for the treasure map and the dubloons.  I cut the map at 3."  All the dubloons were cut at 2 1/2."  I added glossy accents to the lighter gold color, the top-most layer.  I created an additional layer under the dubloons where I printed some information.  I attached that bottom layer to the rest of the dubloon with a gold brad.  I did this for four of the dubloons.  The information on the dubloons is what is written on the photos, but that writing is really difficult to read, so this helps out.  I finished off this layout with a little journaling on the white frame.

Here you can see what the hidden jounaling looks like:

Jungle Layout

Another 8"x8" layout for the companion album to my friends' wedding album.  I used some patterned paper from the Anthology stack by Colorbok for the background.  The photo is 3 1/2"x5."  I matted it with some tan paper cut at 3 3/4"x5 1/4."  I then cut some green patterned paper at 4"x6" and some dark brown cardstock at 4 1/4"x6 1/4."  I cut some more green patterned paper at 4"x6" and ran it through the Cuttlebug with the Geometric Rings embossing folder.  I then inked that with peeled paint Distress Ink.  I matted it with some dark brown cardstock cut at 4 1/4"x6 1/4."  I used Life is a Beach for the long leaf in the lower left corner and the large wide palm leaf in the upper right corner.  I also used Life is a Beach for the plumeria flower in the lower left corner.  I used Cricut Essentials for the two larger flowers in the upper right corner and the two long leaf branches in the upper right corner.  The two smaller flowers are the cut-outs from the middle of the larger two flowers.  I covered one of the branches in verdelite glitter by Martha Stewart.  The other two branches were covered in lime green Stickles.  I also added some tattered rose Stickles to the plumeria flower and some dried marigold Stickles to the two larger flowers.

I used the layout sketch challenge at Stuck On U Sketches for this layout.

Jungle Love

This layout is going to be part of an 8"x8" scrapbook that I am putting together to go with my friends' wedding album.  After the wedding and all of the beach pictures the photographer took some pictures of the bride and groom in the jungle.  I wanted to incorporate those pictures, but they didn't work in the wedding album I made, so I am making an 8"x8" album to go along with it.  I think it should work well since there aren't many of the jungle pictures.  This will be the first page in that album.
It is 8"x8" (obviously) and I used some patterned cardstock from the Anthology stack by Colorbok.  I matted the photo, which is 4"x6," with some tan cardstock also from the Anthology stack.  It is cut at 4 1/4"x6 1/4."  I used Art Nouveau for the word "Jungle."  I welded it using Cricut Craft Room and cut it at 1 1/4" from some glitter cardstock.  I used Country Life for the "love" banner.  It is cut at 1 1/2."  I glued it to some twine and wrapped the twine around the page.  I used Life is a Beach for my leaves.  The palm leaves are cut at 2 1/2" and 2" and I flipped the 2 1/2" leaf.  I cut the tall vine leaf at 6" and also flipped it.  I adhered the small palm leaf and the word "Jungle" to the page with foam adhesive.

I used the sketch from Stuck On U Sketches to create this layout.

Fun in the Sun

I am on a roll with these layouts! I am so excited...I should be done with the album this weekend! This layout is just a simple, but fun and whimsical one. My friends did a lot of snorkeling while were on San Pedro so they thought that some pictures in snorkeling gear would be fun to do at their wedding. So I really wanted to make this layout represent that fun they had.
The polka dotted paper I used in the background is from My Minds Eye, the Lime Twist collection. The two largest photos are 4"x6" and matted once with coral cardstock. The two vertical photos are 3 1/2"x5" and the horizontal photos are 3"x6." I used a Spellbinders Nestabilities die for the label, which is where I will do the journaling. I added some turquoise gems to it. The sun is from Ole and cut at 4 1/4." I added some tropical tangerine Stickles to the coral part of the sun. The sentiment that I used for the title is from Summer Celebrations. I covered "fun" and "sun" in glossy accents and "in the" with turquoise Stickles. The snorkelers are from Life is a Beach. I flipped one of them. Since the snorkeler on Life is a Beach is male, I had to get creative, I hand cut the bikini top to make one of them female. I also welded two pieces of hair together to make her hair longer. I added glossy accents to their flippers and masks and turquoise Stickles to the bubbles. The shell is from the Cricut Craft Room exclusive cartridge, Sea Shells. Pretty simple, but I like how fun it feels.
I am entering this in the challenge at Exploring Cricut, which is to use a person on your creation.

A Day at the Beach

I am almost done with the wedding album for my friends! I can't believe it...only three more double layouts left! :) Here is the latest one I created:
The background cardstock on this one is from The Formal Affair Stack by DCWV. I used Elegant Edges to cut the two mats. The turquoise one is 10 1/2" on the shadow feature and the floral one is 10 1/2" on the regular feature. The floral cardstock is from the Tahiti Beach Stack by DCWV. I ran some glossy accents around the edge of the floral mat and covered it with turquoise glitter. The two largest photos are 4"x6" and matted three times with each layer 1/8" larger than the previous. The smaller photos on the left page are 3"x4" and matted one with a shimmery turquoise cardstock. The smaller photos on the right page are 2 3/4"x4" and the middle one is 3"x4" and are all matted once with glittery turquoise cardstock. I used some leftover hibiscus from Tie the Knot and covered them with lagoon Stickles. The shells are from Life is a Beach, the one on the left page is the border feature. I added glossy accents to the darker outline of the shells. Both hearts are from George and Basic Shapes. I covered the shadow layer in cinnabar glitter by Martha Stewart. I used a stamp from Scrappy Moms, stamped in pearlescent rust ink by Tsukineko, on one of the hearts. The title was created from five different cartridges for a fun and whimsical feel. I used Opposites Attract for the "a," Lyrical Letters for "day," Songbird for "at," Printing 101 for "the," and Life is a Beach for "beach." I used Cricut Craft Room to put it all together so that I could get the sizing right. I used pop-dots to adhere all the shells, except the border ones, and the word beach. I also covered the word beach in black diamond Stickles and the rest of the title in glossy accents.

Paddle Log

Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog is having a challenge to create a project with a water theme and I knew exactly what I wanted to do for this one. I have been meaning to make a book to log the lakes and rivers that my husband and I kayak on and to write notes about what we think about the location. I bought a Smash book a while ago, but haven't done anything with it until this push. It was exactly what I needed in order to create my "Paddle Log."
I covered the Smash book with a pearlized blue cardstock. I then cut seven waves from different shades of blue cardstock. I used Life is a Beach for the waves, they are cut at 2 1/2." I adhered them on the book, overlapping them slightly. The canoing duck is from Campin' Critters, cut at 3 1/2." I added some brown gems for his eyes and glossy accents on his bill and paddle. I added some glitter to the bottom edge of the boat and a little on the bottom of the paddle to look a little like frothy waves. My husband and I actually kayak, but there are no kayaking images and I think the canoing duck is really cute, so it works for me. I adhered him to the book with foam tape. The title is cut from Don Juan at 1 1/4" from the same pearlized blue cardstock that I used to cover the book. Now I just need to start putting my lake and river info in the book. ;)

With This Ring

I used the sketch over at Stuck On U Sketches for the next layout in my friends' wedding album. I had already created this layout once, it was actually the first one I made for the album, but as I started working on the rest of the album the original layout just didn't work. So, I took this opportunity to remake it. The original layout can be seen here. Here is my new and improved layout, in my opinion at least. :)
I used the same photos and font. I also used the hibiscus, although in a different color. It is again a 12"x12" double layout and I used the sketch to create a double layout with it. The largest photo is 4"x6" and double matted with a shimmery coral cardstock and a glittery white cardstock. The two smallest photos are 2"x2," the larger hibiscus photo is 3 1/2"x4 1/2" and the two shell photos are 3 1/2"x5." All these photos are matted with the shimmery coral cardstock. I used foam adhesive to adhere the two smaller hibiscus photos. I used Cricut American Alphabet for the title. I used foam adhesive to adhere the word "ring" as well. I used French Manor to cut the circular rings. I then placed them around the photos in a circle. By doing this for both of the pages it looks like the top of heart. I added a set of wedding rings on the right-hand page. I cut those from Everday Pop-Up Cards. I also cut a hibiscus from Life is a Beach and added that to the left-hand page with foam adhesive. I added diamond Stickles to the word "ring" and to the diamond in the wedding ring. I also added glossy accents to the teal rings and to the bands of the wedding rings. It is a pretty simple one, but I really love the effect of it all. I like this one much better than the old layout. :) Enjoy!
