Fall Box Card

I felt that I deserved some crafting time today.  I had my first Organic Chemistry test last Friday and only got one wrong!  I also had my first Genetics test on Wednesday, but don't yet know the score of that one.  So, for getting through all that I felt some crafting time was well earned.

So, I decided to try something new.  This is my first ever box card.

I used a couple of files from SVG Cutting Files for this card.  The box card template is called Card Box Plain Edge and the scarecrow is Chibi Scarecrow on Post.  I hid the eyes and used  a Peachy Keen stamp for his face.  It is from the Monster Mash Face Assortment.

I sign post is from the "Old West" cartridge, as are the hay bales.  I used a variety of Jaded Blossom merchandise on this as well.  The pumpkin stacks are from the Autumn Panels set.  All the sentiments are from the Harvest Signs set.  The tags are from the Mini Tags Dies 2 set.  I then added a bow made of twine.

I made this for the following challenges:
Cardz TV: 3-D card for fall
Die Cuttin' Divas: pumpkins or scarecrows
SVG Cutting Files: anything fall

Cowboy Penguin

Over the weekend I got a Cricut Explore and this is the first thing I have made using it.

A cute shaped card for a birthday.

The card base is made from the map image on "Life's a Party," found on page 44 of the handbook.  I hid the cuts that make the trail and cut it twice, at 5," to create the card base.  I also used the pens to draw the word "wanted" on the scroll.  I used the "Old West" cartridge and the flourish feature for the font.  I then colored in the letters afterwards.

The penguin and cowboy hat are stamps from Peachy Keen Stamps.  The penguin and cowboy hat are from the new Faceless Cowboy Hat Snowman & Penguins.  I paper pieced the bandanna and hat band.  I then used some Distress Markers by Tim Holtz to color in the feet (spiced marmalade) and hat (vintage photo).  The face is from Happy Penguin Couples Face Assortment.  I used more Distress Markers on the eyes (tumbled glass) and beak (spiced marmalade).  I then used a white gel pen to accent the eyes.  I added some pale gold gems to the hat band.  I adhered the penguin with foam tape.

I used the Peachy Keen Holiday Sentiments set for the sentiment on the inside of the card.

I made this for the current challenge at Die Cuttin' Divas, which is shaped cards.

Sensational Scenes Blog Hop

Welcome to the Sensational Scenes Blog Hop!! If you came here from Darlene then you are in the right place. If you just happened across my blog and would like to participate in the blog hop then head on over to Christina's blog to start at the beginning. For this blog hop, we were asked to create a scene, something like a beach scene, snow scene, water scene....etc. I decided to create a desert scene. I am working on a scrapbook for a trip I took to Arizona and I thought a desert scene would work perfectly for my scrapbook. I made a 12"x12" scrapbook page. I used a dark red cardstock for the base. I then trimmed the patterned paper 1/4" smaller and adhered it to the dark red cardstock. I created a place for a 4"x6" photo. I used a teal cardstock, cut at 4 1/8"x6 1/8" as my first mat, and a shimmery orange cardstock for my second mat, it was cut 1/8" larger than the teal. I used Paper Doll Dress Up for the desert rocks. I used a dark orange cardstock for one layer and the shimmery orange cardstock for the next layer. I then inked around the edges of the rocks. The cacti are from Old West. I then inked the edges of them and also use a marker to add to the texture of the cacti. The rocks and the snake are also from Old West. I used some black pearls for the snake's eyes. I also used pop-dots to adhere the snake and one of the smaller cacti, for some added dimension.

Make sure you check out everyone's blogs on this blog hop, leaving comments, and end at Christina's for your chance to win a set of stamps from Scrappy Moms. The blog hop will run from February 19th-21st and a winner will be picked on the 22nd. I am also offering blog candy on this hop, a set of gem stone flower stamps by Inkadinkado and a pink ink pad by Fiskars. I will also draw a winner on the 22nd. Just be sure to leave a comment and have a US or Canadian shipping address. You do not have to be a follower, although I would love it if you were.

Your next stop on the blog hop is Janice. Here is a list of the blog hop order:

Cowpoke

This is a peek-a-boo card I made today. It is folded like a gate fold card, so that it is 5 1/2"x4 1/4" when folded. I used a brown cardstock for the card base. I used a light tan cardstock for the interior of the card, it is 3"x5 1/2." The hole is from a 1" circle punch. I used some blue cardstock, embossed with Distress Stripes for the curtains. The "happy birthday" is a stamp from Fiskars and the "cowpoke" is from Old West, cut at 1 1/2." The hat that shows through is from Old West as well, cut a 1." On the exterior of the card I used the same blue, again embossed with Distress Stripes, and some patterned cardstock from the Guy Stack by DCWV. The scalloped circle is also a punch. I cut a hole about 2 1/2" around the scalloped circle so you could see it. The boot is also from Old West, cut at 2."
This card was made for the following challenges:

Flaunt It Fridays Challenge #7

The challenge this Friday is to use the skull and crossbones on the Mini Monsters cartridge, on page 65 of the handbook, in a non-Halloween project. The first thing I thought of for this cut was to make something pirate related. As I mulled it over more this layout idea came up and I put it all together. It actually turned out pretty much how I envisioned it, which is always nice. This layout is 12"x12." I used Debbie Mumm paper for the background. I cut the map paper in the background from Old West, at 8 1/2." I then inked the edges in gingerbread ink by Tsukineko. I left room for a 4"x6" photo. The blue paper is also Debbie Mumm, cut at 4 1/4"x6 1/4" and the tan paper is cut at 4 1/2"x6 1/2" and I also inked it with the gingerbread ink. The little pirate boy is from B is for Boys and he is cut at 5." The sentiment, "Little Buccaneer," cut at 1 1/2," and "Treasure Map," cut at 1," is from Blackletter. I welded the title on my Gypsy before cutting it out. The palm tree is cut at 2," and the tikis are cut at 3/4," 1" and 1 1/4" and are all from Life is a Beach. The treasure chest is also from Life is a Beach, cut at 2." I cut the gold from Simply Charmed. I used my Gypsy to figure out what size would work for the treasure chest. I cut them out twice and put them in the chest. The skull and crossbones is from Mini Monsters and cut at 1 1/2." I finished off the layout with doodling on the map (for the trail) the tikis, the chest and the title. I added some yellow Stickles to the gold to make it shine.I hope you enjoyed my little layout and I can't wait to see what you come up with for this week's challenge! Come on over to Flaunt It Fridays to play along!

Arizona Scrapbook Pages

I have been working on scrapbooking a trip I took to Arizona in 2008. I know it has been a while since the trip, but better late than never! I still have some more to go, but these particular pages are from the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. I used the sketch from Papercraft Star for their layout. I turned the sketch on its side to make it work for me. The pictures on the page are just some landscape shots I took in the museum. I didn't do any journaling on the page until after I took my pictures, oops! I used Old West for the cacti, snake and rock and Plantin Schoolbook for the title.

Howdy Pardner!

It has been so hot up here for the past couple of days. The kind of heat where you just don't want to do anything, so I really haven't been, yesterday at least. I thought I would do something today though. I want my normal Alaska summer back, where it is warm, but not stifling hot. Here is the creation I made today. This is the sketch from 365 Cards and I used the theme from Just Us Girls, which is "wild wild west." I used Old West for all the cuts. I used my Gypsy to weld the "howdy pardner!" sentiment. I used some black Stickles for the dots on the sentiment. The patterned paper is all from the Guy Stack from DCWV. I stamped "happy birthday" on the inside.
