Joy Banner Card for Scrappy-Go-Lucky

The Country Life cartridge has a great banner feature.  With a little adjustment in Design Studio or with the Gypsy, you can create a mini banner for a card.

For this simple and cheerful card I used the DCWV Christmas 12 x 12 stack, some Core'dinations Gemstone cardstock and the "joy" stickers from the Creative Charms Multi-Dimensional Christmas Twinkle Stickers.

I created this card for Scrappy-Go-Lucky and you can get all of the details and download the file at THIS POST  on the Scrappy-Go-Lucky blog.  With just a few cuts and embellishments you have a very merry card!  You could punch your own one inch circles or add different embellishments to the pennants if you wanted to vary the design.

I used the same concept for this Halloween card, substituting the spiky pennant background for the scalloped layer.  The file for this card is on my blog at THIS POST.

Here is a baby card variation using the same file as the Joy card.  I used some epoxy stickers, polka-dot ribbon, and gem stickers on the tips of the pennants.

You can download the file for the Joy card or the baby card on the Scrappy-Go-Lucky blog at THIS POST.   Have fun experimenting with all of the variations.

I also want to let you know that Creative Charms is having a fantastic Black Friday Special - one day only!  These are great kits  - you have seen some of my projects using these items.  There are many more projects on the Creative Charms Blog.  The blog just was redone and it looks great!

Kitchen Crock Card for Scrappy-Go-Lucky

The Country Life cartridge is full of  great images for the home and garden.  I lived on a farm as a child and find that many of the images remind me of those years.  One of my favorite items on the cartridge is this crock with cooking utensils.  My Mother had a crock for various tools and this image brought back a lot of memories.

When Mandy at Scrappy-Go-Lucky sent me this cartridge I knew I wanted to make something using this image!  Scrappy-Go-Lucky is based in Australia with UK and US sites as well.  I am really looking forward to meeting up with Mandy, the owner, and the other Design Team members next January at CHA in Los Angeles!

Our son and his girlfriend have moved into a new apartment and I wanted to send  a card with some gift funds for the inevitable expenses of setting up a new place.  I designed this card to hold a check or gift card inside.

If you would like to see how I made this card and download the file, please visit the Scrappy-Go-Lucky blog, here is a LINK to the post.  I'd love to see your version of this card if you download the file.

Thanks again for all of the support you have been giving me in the Creative Memories contest to win a Cricut Cruise.  The contest continues until the 23rd and you can click on the image of my layout at the top right of the blog to go directly to the voting page.  You need to wait a full 24 hours between votes, so if you can't vote because it already says "I voted" please try back a little later in the day.

Creative Charms Deal of the Month Projects

Today is my day to share a few projects on the Creative Charms blog. If you haven't stopped over to see what my fellow Design Team members have been creating I know you will enjoy a quick visit - just click HERE and scroll down.  The November Deal Of the Month is called "Falling for Fall" but I must have Christmas on my mind since I was drawn to the red items in the deal.

Here is the November Deal.

  • Orange Ruffled Flower - 3 Pieces
  • Red Ruffled Flower - 3 Pieces
  • Orange Gem Brads - 12 Pieces
  • Red Gem Garden - 12 Pieces
  • Red Sunflowers - 4 Pieces
  • Assorted Loop d'Loop Brads - 9 Pieces
  • Red Gem Stickers - 76 Pieces
  • Orange Groovy Petals - 8 Pieces
  • 18" Red Fancy Polka Dot Ribbon
You get all of this for only $6.99 (Regular Price $ 18.93).

I used the Country Life Cricut cartridge to create these trees.  I adapted three pennants with scalloped backgrounds to fit the card front.  The flowers from the Red Gem Garden make perfect stars at the top of the snowy trees.  (I have a secret confession -these were actually "oops!" cuts from another project where I had been previewing in color and forgot to weld again before cutting - that is why I usually make separate pages in my files for previewing and cutting).

I used medium glue dots to attach the" flower stars" and they hold very well.  Just press the flower on to the dot and then lift it from the roll and place it on the tree.

The best way I know to add ribbon neatly is to use Scor-Tape.  It is strong and easy to work with and will not show through the ribbon.

The "Seasons Greetings" sentiment is a peel off from my friend Agnes in Scotland.  I think these peel offs are such fun to use and there are becoming more readily available in the States.  I use my CM Multi Purpose Tool to help with placing these on the card.

A Gem Garden butterfly highlights the sentiment.  I used the Red Fancy Polka Dot Ribbon along the top of the sentiment strip  The snowy scallops and the sentiment strip are Core'dinations gemstone cardstock and the trees are from the DCWV Christmas Medley stack.

The snowflakes above the tree are punched from the same Core'dinations cardstock with the Martha Stewart edge punch from the Snowflake Punch Around the Page set.

The Red Sunflowers seemed a bit "Summery" to me with their gingham centers.  However, I found that they worked very nicely with a bold graphic Christmas paper from American Crafts.

One sunflower and some more Fancy Polka Dot Ribbon and random sticker letters make a cheery "Ho Ho Ho" card.

I used the other three sunflowers on this page to hang on my magnetic Everyday Display Board from Creative Memories.  The patterned paper is American Crafts Christmas and I used a Martha Stewart Snowflake Punch Around The Page set for the right side.  The white cardstock is cut at 5 x 10 1/4 inches and then punched to get the perfect matching at the corners.

I have a few of these boards and they are great for displaying cards and current photos, keeping track of concert tickets or showing off a special page before you put it in an album and they also make great gifts.

The Christmas Twinkle Sticker (not part of the November deal) says "Time to be Jolly" but it is also time to get busy - just 42 days until Christmas!  I can add post it reminders or even attach a memo pad on the right side to help with holiday preparations and schedules.

I couldn't miss making at least one "Fall " project with this kit.  I used the red and orange sheer flowers and one of the orange loop d'loop flowers from the Groovy Petal Medley.  I replaced the flower brad at the center of the loop d'loop flower with an orange Gem Brad to make it a bit more formal.

This squash book or card is simple to make.  You can add photos, sayings and personal messages in all of the spaces.  The shimmery leaf paper is from a pack called Autumn Splendor by Making Memories and the base of the card is a heavy textured Bazzill cardstock.

You start with a heavy weight piece of 12 x 12 cardstock.  Using a scoring board (Scor-Pal, Martha Stewart) will give you the best results.  Score the paper at the 4 and 8 inch marks.  Then turn the paper 90 degrees and score again at the 4 and 8 inch marks so you end up with 9 squares.  Then cut away the corner squares on two opposite corners.  Finally, make a diagonal score line from corner to corner of the two eight inch square sections as you see in the photo above.  You will need to use the bone folder to sharpen the creases neatly and then fold on each score line back and forth several times to make it easy to fold and collapse into the square shape.

The decorative paper inside on on the covers is cut into squares and triangles slightly smaller than the cardstock to allow easy folding.  Cut eight squares at 3 3/4 inches and then turn four squares on the diagonal and cut them to make triangles.  You can use all the same paper as I did here or a variety of papers.

Fold up the book and tie a ribbon around it.  You can add a bit of adhesive under the ribbon on the back to keep it in position.

Then add the fourth square to the back adhering well around all of the edges.

The ribbon closure is made much more elegant with the addition of these flowers.

I punches a scalloped circle as a base for the flowers.  I wanted to add some stability and to have something to anchor the gem brad in the loop d'loop string flower.

I used the thick 1/2 inch pop up glue dots which are super sticky and strong to hold the flowers.

I also used the pop up glue dots to adhere the scalloped circle to the ribbon.  It all seems to be holding together nicely.

The Deal of the Month packages are always a great value and you can use one set for many projects.  The deals only last a month so be sure to get your November set before it is too late!

NOTE ADDED FOR EMAIL SUBSCRIBERS

Vintage Halloween Kit of the Month from Creative Charms

Today is my day to post  projects on the Creative Charms blog - I was asked to used the new Vintage Halloween Kit of the Month for October.  I got a bit carried away and did three projects and I will be posting the details in separate posts throughout the day.

Pennants and banners seem to be everywhere I look lately.  I think this trend is fun and playful so I decided to make a card with a little banner across the top.  I used the Country Life cartridge and adapted the pennants to fit an A2 card in Design Studio.

I wanted the pennants to hang freely so I needed to be sure they were securely adhered.  Scor-Tape is just the right thing to hold tightly and it is so quick and easy to use - no drying time!

I thought the top of the card seemed a little unfinished so I added some orange and white polka dot ribbon.  Scor-tape is also great for ribbon since it does not bleed through as some liquid adhesives will.

I didn't want to wrap the ribbon around the card so I made sure the tape went right to the ends of a piece a bit too long for the card and then trimmed the edges flush to the edge.

I added some of the new Halloween Vintage Frames at the top of each pennant.

Then I added some little ghosts from my stash of punched shapes (I punch shapes from any small scraps before I toss them) but I decided this was too busy and took them off again (they are sticking to my lamp right now so you will probably see them soon!)   To my eye, there was still something not quite right about the card.

I kept looking at the card and finally decided that there was too much yellow - so...

...I added a green layer beneath the pennants.  This toned down the yellow and gave a better contrast to the orange edges of the pennants.

A few gradient gem stickers finish off the tips of the pennants.

I also added gem stickers to the ends of the ribbon.  Aren't these Vintage Frames great!  Even better they are available as "blanks" so you can make your own.  I'll be showing some projects with my custom frames next week.

Halloween Card with Pennants

If you want to get a sneak peek at the other two projects you can see them on the Creative Charms blog at THIS POST.  Check back later through the day for the full details and files.

My friends Joy (Obsessed with Scrapbooking) and Melanie (Courtney Lane Designs) contacted me this weekend to let me know that they are showcasing the two exclusive Creative Memories cartridges (Reminisce Accents and Cheerful Seasons) this week.  I am a Creative Memories consultant and they asked if they could link to me in case some of their readers were interested in buying the cartridges but did not have a consultant.

In a case of perfect timing I am happy to help anyone who would like these cartridges (if you don't already have a consultant).  I have an ambitious goal to sell at least 40 cartridges this month so I can qualify to be in a contest to win a spot on the Cricut Cruise.  You know I'd love to go along with my "twin" Okie!  Please contact me if you have any questions about the cartridges or how to order them.  I used the Reminisce Accents cartridge for one of my Creative Charms projects today.

Check back later today for the other project posts - I think it will be a very busy day for me as I get all of these files ready to post!

At the Fair

Quite a few of you guessed that I had been at a fair this weekend.  Our older son and his girlfriend flew in to Philadelphia from California and our younger son and his girlfriend drove with us to Pennsylvania to see my Dad and go to the Middletown Grange Fair in Bucks County, PA.  My parents were very active in the Grange for years, at various times they both served as the "Master" (the title for the President of the organization).  In fact, my mother was the first female master of our local Grange.  The Fair was a big part of my childhood and I have many fond memories of this summer tradition.

The screen shot at the top of this post is from the Carousel Cricut Lite cartridge.  I plan to use this cartridge and the Country Life cartridge (which arrived in the mail while I was away) to do some scrapbook pages about the Fair.  Tonight I will share a few more photos from our trip and tomorrow I should be back to the more usual "crafty" posts!

Livestock displays and judging are still a big part of the Fair.

In addition to the large cattle and horses, there are now many displays of chickens, goats, sheep, and rabbits.

I don't remember any alpacas at the Fair when I was a child but there were some there this year.

The Chicken Barbeque Dinners are always a highlight.  They are cooked in big racks over huge fires and are served with corn on the cob, tomatoes, cranberry sauce, potatoes and rolls - delicious!

There was not a Midway with games and there were no mechanical rides when I was a child but nowadays they add to the Fair excitement.

The garden vegetable exhibits are fun to see.  Entries are judged and there are ribbons and small cash prizes to be won.

I remember how difficult it was to find five tomatoes that "matched" to enter - I don't think we competed in this category every year.

I am sure the "vegetable sculpture" category did not exist when I was a child...

The display of quilts and other handwork and crafts is one of my favorite sections.

We met up with our nephew and his girlfriend in the evening and the younger crowd "did" the rides while my husband and I looked at exhibits.

The next day we had to take the girls to see a real covered bridge.  There are not very many left in Bucks County but my Dad took us to see one close to the fairgrounds.

I really like the rough lattice inside the bridge and I took several photos that I will use to make some digital background papers.

My Dad was glad to see everyone.  He has had a few health issues recently but I think he is looking great for nearly 86!  I am sure he was glad to get back to a normal routine after we left.

For those of you who guessed deep fried Oreos yesterday - you were right!  I have never had these and thought they sounded very odd but it was a bit like a donut hole with a chocolate center and too tasty for my own good!  I have to give a shout out to Yvette for her guess of "olliebollen" - we are very familiar with these on my husband's side of the family.  They are Dutch and these were a favorite treat his grandmother used to make.

The weekend was full of activities and long drives - we got home tonight quite exhausted. I am still having troubles with sciatica and have started physical therapy - I hope it will help get the pain under control ...  I have lots of crafty things to do!
