Think Pink (and a special giveaway)

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  You have probably seen pink in some unusual places.  Many organizations and companies are making special promotional offers in support of breast cancer research.  Some papercrafting groups hold special "Crop for the Cure" events this month.

Sometimes I wonder if all of the money spent producing the pink items might be excessive.  I had my annual mammogram this week (if you haven't had yours, please call now to schedule it!) and all of these items were at the check in desk.  I also read some reports about the very small percentage (5%) of the proceeds from the sales of pink NFL gear that actually go to the American Cancer Society.

I think nearly everyone has been touched in some way by this disease.  Great progress has been made in detection and treatment but there is always more to be done.  If you or someone you know is fighting this disease, albums and journals can be very therapeutic for those in treatment and their families.

The pink ribbon is a widely recognized symbol for breast cancer awareness and I am often asked if this symbol is on any cartridges (there are ribbons on Pink Journey, Stand and Salute - page 31, Autumn Celebrations - page 54, Car Decals - page 53).  You can also trim the bottom from an ampersand (&) to create a ribbon (some fonts work better than others).

I'd like to give one of my readers this set from Sizzix called "Scrap Pink."  It includes an original size steel rule die, a Sizzlits die, a Simple Impressions embossing folder and a Terturz Texture Plate with ribbons on one side and words on the other.  There is also a key ring ribbon on a chain and it is all packed in a plastic pouch with handles.

Here are the two ribbons cut by the dies...

...and samples of the embossing.

These are the words on the opposite side of the embossing texture plate.

If you could make good use of this set, leave a comment on this post or any other post up to the end of the month.  Please comment only once on each post but you can comment on every post until the end of the month for more chances.  I will draw a name on Halloween and post it on November 1st.  Please be sure to leave a way for me to contact you if your name is drawn.

Pink Journey images from Cricut.com site

The Cricut cartridge "Pink Journey" is available for $19.99 this week on the Cricut.com site HERE.  For years this cartridge was only available at Michael's and was bundled with a pink machine.  If  you are one of the many people who wanted this cartridge but didn't need an extra Cricut machine this should be good news for you!

Diane, one of my readers from upstate New York, contacted me about a special offer from Amuse Studio.  For Breast Cancer Awareness month Amuse Studio is giving away 10,000 Fight Like a Girl Breast Cancer Awareness stamp sets. There is a $3.00 fee for shipping and handling. The package includes Breast Cancer information from the American Cancer Society along with a coupon for 20% off a future Amuse Studio order.

Diane is a consultant for Amuse Studio and you can order this free set from her website HERE.  I took a quick look at the site and they have lots of other very nice stamp sets that may tempt you.  Diane is located in upstate New York.  If you would like to find a consultant near you, you should be able to use the locator on the Amuse Studio site.

Don't forget to take your 12 photos today if you are doing "12 on the 12th in 2012."  Do you have any special plans for the weekend?  The weather is getting very cold here and we have our semi annual town recycling "Drop Off - Swap Off" event on Saturday.

You can win this exclusive cartridge - currently available only with the purchase of the Pink Expression at Michael's - find out how to enter by visiting Cutting Above.  Here is a LINK to the post with all of the details!

I also want to make sure that you know that here were updates issued for both the Gypsy and the Design Studio software today - you can download the updates from the Cricut.com site.  Here is a LINK to the post about the Design Studio update.  Here is a LINK to the post about the Gypsy update.  These updates add new cartridges to the content libraries but do not include any program changes.  WARNING - seeing the new cartridges and all of the images will most likely cause you to add many of these cartridges to your wish list - I know that there are several I would love to have!

Sorry for the super short post today - I drove home yesterday and had a sore throat then I woke up  feeling awful so I had to take things very slow today.  I did spend some time with my Gypsy but haven't had a chance to go downstairs to cut anything yet - I hope that tomorrow will be a better day!
