Bows, bows, bows

I only have time for a quick post tonight and I thought I'd share a digital bow for all of you that I am trying to get started with digital and hybrid scrapping.

The digital kits you can purchase from Creative Memories, Lettering Delights and other sources all come with terms of use which generally require that you use the items for personal projects only.  I sometimes like to create my own embellishments which I can then use for personal or paid projects.

I made this card back in May (here is a LINK to the original post).  I liked the way the bow turned out so I decided to turn it into a digital element.  With the StoryBook Creator Plus 3.0 software this is easy to do.

I will do a more complete explanation another day but the basic procedure is to delete everything but the bow by cropping the photo with your digital tools.  In some cases you can use the "magic wand" but in other circumstances you may need to create a custom shape to get a clean image.  You then save the image as a PNG file which means that it will have a transparent background.  You can duplicate the image and change the color, change the size and apply many types of effects such as the oil painting (blue and black image at the top right) or rubber stamp (yellow and orange image in the lower left).

This is a low resolution screen shot of the bow.  To download the full size PNG file please use this link

I had a chance to spend a some time with my little friends today while their older sister had a birthday party.  Since we had two sons, I really enjoy all of the pink and girly dresses and outfits they wear!

It was such a busy weekend that I haven't been able to get to all of the comments and emails - I will try to answer everyone tomorrow morning, thanks for your patience!

A Surprise in the Garden...

I hope you had a lovely long weekend.  Our weather here in New England was beautiful, sunny and warm but not too humid.  Perfect for gardening, parades and cookouts.  Thanks to my husband (the gardener) our yard is looking very nice.  I am taking lots of photos as different plants start blooming.

I hope you are not tired of iris - this pink iris appeared most unexpectedly near the pink rhododendron bushes.  We figured out that it was one that was transplanted last year but did not bloom until this year.

I find it very relaxing to experiment with all of the digital effects I can apply to my photos.  Here I used a "posterize" filter to alter the flower image.  This effect is one of my favorites.   I use the Creative Memories StoryBook Creator Plus 3.0 software for my digital experiments.  I can create images like this to use for card fronts, adding sentiments to suit the occasion.

I made a .png file of the pink iris to share with those of you who do digital scrapping.   If you do download the image and use it, I would love to see what you make.

I have been busy reorganizing our home computer workspaces - the Mac has moved to the kitchen which is very handy.  I've also been working on learning some new software - more about that soon...  The Gypsy updates have inspired me to to start using my Gypsy again so I will have more files to share soon - I have already designed quite a few but need to test cut them this week.
