Color and Pattern Inspiration Challenge

Happy Tuesday!  Today is "back to normal" day for many people.  The holidays are over, school starts up again and regular work hours resume.  While not officially a holiday, it is still a special day for my husband and me because today is our 31st Wedding Anniversary!

We were married on a snowy January night but fortunately it was "regular snow" and not blizzard conditions.  The three children in this photo are all married now and two of them have children of their own.

We were so much younger and skinnier then!  If you have been reading my blog for a long time, you may remember that I had planned to make a proper wedding album in time for our 30th anniversary.  It isn't finished yet (insert red face here...) however, it is on my list for this year and my plan is to post some pages in progress each month until our next anniversary!

One of my ideas to keep the blog interesting and more interactive this year is to post some inspiration images and challenge you to make something inspired by the item and the colors.  I'll add the InLinkz tool to each inspiration post so you can upload your project.  There will be at least one each month and they will be open for several weeks to give you time to make something to share. You do not have to have a blog to join in - there are directions for uploading your image directly.

Here is the first inspiration image.  My husband has given me lovely gifts of fine jewelry over the years, however, one of my favorite gifts was this rather battered pin that he found at an "antique" (secondhand) shop when we lived in England.  Our son helped to choose the pin, which makes it even more special.  You can download the image above to have a handy reference to work from.

If you look carefully at the design you will see that it is based on fives (large five petal shape with five leaves and five five-petal flowers) with the one exception of the six petal flower in the center.  The paint is well worn down but the little "diamonds" are all still there - that's something of a miracle in itself!  The filigree behind each of the flowers reminds me of paper lace.

Here is another photo against a white background - you can certainly see that the pin had been "well-loved" before it joined my collection.  I think the base is brass with enamel paint for the colors - shades of blue, light green and periwinkle.

You can make a card, a flower, an element for a scrapbook page - whatever this shabby pin inspires you to create...  I can't wait to see what you come up with!  If you have any questions, please leave a comment.  If you leave a comment, instead of emailing me directly, others will be able to see the question and answer which will save everyone time - thanks!

Edited to add the following helpful information!

If you don't have a blog - you can still play along.  Just put my blog address (or any other url) in the blank and fill in your name and email.  Then you can click to go to the next page.

When you get to the second page, you will see options to add the direct image URL (from a photo storage site like Flickr or Photobucket) or to upload directly from your computer.

I am expecting a special package to arrive today - it's taken a while to get here and it is a nice coincidence that it will arrive on our anniversary...any guesses?  (remember, I have very low will power when it comes to crafting tools...)

Today is the last day for the second chance sale on Blitsy - new sales will be posted on Wednesday, the 4th.

Anniversary Day

January 3, 1981 was our wedding day - so today we celebrated our 30th Anniversary.

My husband brought home 30 beautiful roses.

It took me a while to find a vase large enough for all of them - and I have a lot of vases!

We went out to dinner and our server snapped this photo.

Thirty years ago we certainly were thinner but I think you can still recognize us!

I did some crafting today and a lot of organizing and emailing.  I decided to sort out some things that have been creating clutter to get the new year off to a good start.

After we got home from dinner I used my Creative Memories StoryBook Creator Plus 3.0 software to create this image.  If you have any questions about how I did it, please leave a comment.  Creative Memories is having a great sale on albums and pages for the month of January.  You can save 20 percent off all scrapbook albums, scrapbook pages, Page Protectors and Side-Loading Sleeves. The sale also applies to pocket-style PicFolio® Photo Albums and digital StoryBook photo books. If you do not have a consultant that you work with, I would be happy to help you.  You can order through my Creative Memories personal website and have the order shipped to your door.  Here is a LINK to my site (there is also a link in the left side column).

I know that there is still a problem with the downloads and I am trying to get a solution sorted out.  It really isn't feasible for me to individually email the files to everyone - I wouldn't have any time left to create new ones!  I am so frustrated that 4shared will not take the time to review my account to see that there is nothing there that should not be.  I am researching other solutions but it will take me a long time to reupload the files and create new links.

Valentine's Day will be here before we know it and I have a lot of projects that I have been working on.  I'll be sharing them very soon and I hope you will enjoy them.  I'll have a normal "crafty" post for you tomorrow - thanks for sharing our anniversary!

Don't forget that Tuesday is the last day to leave a comment for the Promarker giveaway.

If you want to be included in the random draw for the set of ProMarkers from Letraset please be sure to leave your comment on the original post at THIS LINK.  These are the only comments that will be included  - one comment per person please.

Twenty Nine Years Ago...

Today is our 29th Wedding Anniversary so this post is very short!  The card above was made with some "leftovers" from another project that I will share in a day or two.  I put it at the top of this post so my wedding photos wouldn't be showing up in the blog lists on all of the blogs that link to me.

The wedding doesn't seem so long ago - until I look at the photos and see how young (and skinny!) we look.

The littlest flower girl in this photo is now 32 and has been married for over six years.  The ring bearer is married with two children and the older flower girl is engaged and will be married in September.

Here we are with our parents.  My mother passed away in 1996, but we are lucky to still have my Dad and my husband's parents (who just celebrated their 55th anniversary).

I never made a wedding scrapbook, in fact, we never even ordered wedding photos so I only have the original shots.  I took them out of the photo sleeves they were in  a couple of years ago because the adhesive that holds the sleeves together had disintegrated and left some white residue on the edges of some photos.

One of my goals for the coming year is to put together an album in time for our 30th anniversary. I will have to do a lot of touch up on the older photos that I have scanned, however, since we were married "pre-digital," I don't have thousands of them to sort through.  I do still have all of the "memorabilia" to include (which is pretty incredible considering the number of times we have moved since getting married).

Thanks for taking a short trip down Memory Lane with me.
