Just a quick post today - I wanted to share a beautiful and complex card that I bought in Virginia when we were at the wedding last month.
This is the front of the card. Aside from the beautiful red handmade paper it is rather plain and boring.
However, when you open up the card this amazing structure appears. It is an incredibly detailed paper cutting of the Library of Congress.
The design is actually a flat piece of paper with many tiny cuts and lots of scoring. I tried to get it flat for this photo so you could see how everything fits into the background. There are only a few places where paper is actually removed from the page.
Here is the view from the top - some of the red hand made paper shows to accent the design.
Here is a side view - the folds are done so various parts fold out at different depths.
This is cut by a laser. Some of the cuts are extremely fine. The folding is all done by the artist by hand. In her statement she says she can finish 200 - 300 cards a day!
