Linking and Repairs for Cricut Gypsy

Exciting news for Cricut Gypsy owners was announced yesterday.  After a very long wait it is finally possible to link the cartridges that are on your Gypsy device to the Cricut Craftroom.  You can get all of the details on the Cricut.com site HERE.

There are lengthy instructions and a list of Frequently Asked Questions and you should be sure to read everything and follow these directions carefully.  This long awaited update will allow Gypsy owners with extensive cartridge libraries linked on their devices to use the same cartridges seamlessly with the Cricut Craftroom - they will no longer be required to insert each cartridge before cutting their projects.

There is also helpful news for Gypsy owners with devices that do not work - new repair options were announced.

In a post on the Cricut Community Message Board HERE, Nathan added some additional information.  He confirmed that the current Gypsy model will no longer be produced but stated that support and content updates will continue to be offered.

The final blow has been dealt to the Cricut Design Studio program.  No more content updates will be provided which means that no cartridges issued after April 11, 2013 can be used with the program.  If you are a Design Studio user be sure to go to the update page HERE, to get the final content update.

The update version number is V130401 - save the file to your computer and then run it to install the last cartridges.

This screen shot shows the cartridges that are added in this update.  The update is very quick since for this final update only the newest cartridges are added.  If you had not updated to the last version, I am not sure how you will be able to add the cartridges you missed since this update only adds the most recent.  If you kept up with the updates your program should be complete.  To find out if your program is up to date, check to see the last font update you installed - the update before this was done last October and the version was V121009 (see my post HERE).  The Teresa Collins December 25th seasonal cartridge and Something to Remember which were both missing from the last update have been included in the final update.

One more note - it is "One Buck Wednesday" at Jessica Sprague  and there are a number of kits that are either $1 or 50% off.  Echo Park, Carta Bella, Jenni Bowlin, Samantha Walker, Lori Whitlock, Carina Gardner and more all have  interesting items to try out at bargain prices for digital scrapping or cutting.  The papers and embellishments can be used for print and cut projects on the Silhouette machines as well.  (Click the image on the left to go to the site).

Do any of you still use Cricut Design Studio?   After years of daily use (sometimes for hours a day) I have used it only rarely since I added the Silhouette machines to my craft room.  It is very hard to switch back to the Cricut program once you get used to the abilities of the Silhouette Studio such as one click shadows and other helpful editing tools.  For anyone who doesn't own a Gypsy (or doesn't like the small black and white screen) and can't easily use the Craftroom due to internet issues, this is the end of an era.

Yesterday I woke up with a very scratchy throat and very little voice - probably allergies since I was outdoors for a long while watching the parade.  I had planned to do a video with the butterfly card instructions yesterday - if my voice improves, I'll do it later today - if not...it will be a words and pictures post for now.

Design Studio Updated

I have some good news for you if you have recently purchased Cricut cartridges and found that you couldn't use them with Design Studio.  There has been an update adding the newest cartridges to the Cricut Design Studio program.  The new Cricut Website still does not have a page for Design Studio.  You can find the link to the Design Studio update at THIS POST on the Cricut Message Board.

When you click the link in that post you will see the download window for V121009.  Be sure to SAVE this to your computer and then run it to install the new cartridges.  The download should only take a few minutes.

Double click on the font installer and then click on the box at the bottom of this screen - you will need to give approval in another pop-up window for the fonts (cartridge info) to install.

The actual installation is very quick - then you can open Design Studio and start designing with your new cartridges.  (I don't have any of these but I am tempted by Suburbia and the cute Teddy Bear cartridge).

Since the website page is no longer available there is not a list to verify which cartridges are added by this update.  I found the latest Lites (Teddy Bear Parade, Trick or Treat, Snow Folks, Dino Play, Children Around the World, Pirates and Mermaids), Suburbia and Create a Critter 2.  I did not see the Teresa Collins December 25th Seasonal or Something to Remember (the exclusive Cricut Circle cartridge).

I hope you are having a great day.  Things are a little off schedule for me and may be for the next few days...

Cricut Design Studio Update Available

Happy Tuesday!  It's been a while since the Cricut Design Studio was updated with new cartridges.  I checked today and the update page lists cartridges through March (Art Deco, Chip Decor, Paper Dolls Teen Scene and Spring Cottage).

The last time I looked the cartridges from February were the latest listed (Garden Soup, Tags, Bags, Boxes and More 2, Creative Memories Divine Wedding)

Even though the page only lists updates through the March cartridges, there is good new for Design Studio users.  The To The Cabin, Over the Hill, Pretty Pennants, Paper Play, Tablescapes Spring and Summer, Wild Card 2, Out of Character, Victorian Romance and Creative Memories Be Young cartridges are also included in the update - there may be even more, I have listed the ones that I noticed that are not identified on the official download page.

To update your copy of Design Studio, just click HERE to go to the download page and then click on the second download button (Design Studio Cartridge Content update) to download the new font pack.  Be sure to SAVE the download to you computer and then RUN it to be sure the update installs properly.

This update is Version V120528

I don't know how many of you are still using Design Studio.  I use it to work with my Cricut cartridges but have spent much more time with the Silhouette software lately.  The Cricut Craftroom has not worked well for me - it often freezes or does not weld the items correctly.  Since many of the new cartridges are digital only, you need to use them with the Craftroom or a Gypsy.  I have not tried to update my Gypsy so I can't tell you if all of these cartridges have been added to the Gypsy yet.

I am putting together more photos and descriptions of the projects we did in the Tim Holtz classes and will post them soon.  Today I want to get the Simple Pages Scrapbook Challenge set up (at last!) so we can all get motivated to do more scrapbooking...

Have a great day!

I layered two Groovy Petal flowers on this card.

The Fuzzy Daisy Kit includes the leafy ribbon I used on this ornament.

More Groovy Petals (with the centers exchanged to gem brads) on this card.

A braided daisy - I love the button centers!

The Fuzzy Daisy has such a nostalgic look - it makes me think of chenille bedspreads and robes.

Groovy Petals come in such cute bright colors!

I added a gem sticker to the center of this Groovy Petal flower for added sparkle.

Two sizes and colors of the Braided Daisy Medley on this woven front "quilt" card.

Another Groovy Petal on this door hanger sign.

The five petal shapes work nicely with lots of Cricut cuts.

Happy Shopping!

Update for Cricut Design Studio available

The February Cartridges have been added to Design Studio.  To update your program, click HERE to go to the update page on the Cricut.com site.  Scroll down to the Cartridge Content Update section and click the download button.

The cartridges to be added are listed above.  The Creative Memories Divine Wedding cartridge is full of beautiful wedding images and great fonts and monograms.  I have had some emails asking about purchasing this cartridge.  It will be available starting on March 1st on my CM Personal Website - it should be on This Page with the other cartridges.

This window will pop up and show the update as V120216.  Be sure to SAVE the update file and then run it so it will install correctly.  If you have Design Studio open when you install the update, you will need to close and reopen the program to see the new cartridges.

When you open the downloaded update file, you will see this screen.  Just click to install the update.  You will have to give permission for the update to install on a separate screen.

Thanks for all of the kind comments about my first oil painting.  It really was almost like a "paint-by-numbers" class since we were following some very specific directions.  I did enjoy it and I may try to do some more painting...someday...

I'll be busy today getting packed for my trip.  Apparently not only 'cute shoes" but also sparkly evening outfits are expected at this event!  I fly very early tomorrow morning and will try to have posts scheduled for the days that I am away.  I might have a chance to post a few photos while I am gone but they may have to wait until I get back.

I hope you have a great Wednesday.

Little Holiday Houses

Ink About It, my "local" stamping and scrapbooking store (it's just a few towns away), is hosting a challenge for customers.  Last month, we could buy a small chipboard house for $2 to take home and decorate in any style.  The houses are supposed to be returned to the store this week to go on display until Christmas. Three names will be drawn from all of those who bring in their little houses and the three people will each win a gift certificate to the store.

My neighbor and I picked up our houses last month (we each got the full set of five houses for $10 since we couldn't decide which house to choose!).  On Tuesday we brought them back and had a chance to see some of the others that have been turned in already.

I thought the beading on the edges of the roof of the house on the right was a great idea to represent Christmas lights.

Mine is the pink and green house on the right - I had to keep it very simple since I didn't have much time to get it done.  There are tiny lace curtains in the windows and tinsel on the roof lines.  I like the roof on the center house with the overlapping circles for tiles.

This is my neighbor's house - she crocheted the little strip of lace along the front gable.  The Martha Stewart branch punch makes a great hedge with some Stickle accents.

This little cottage was quite elaborate with a small picket fence, snowman and trees.

I love the little stone chimney that was added to this house.

The houses are sitting on top of some of the store display cases.  The tiny sled and bicycle beside the house on the left are very cute!  There are also some tiny figures inside that you can see through the open window.

The colors, details and glitter on this house are lovely - one of my favorites in the group so far...

Several people added steeples to turn their little building into a church.  This one is hand painted with some lovely scenes.

This little church has a bell in the steeple and lovely stained glass windows made with embossing and alcohol ink on clear acetate or packaging.

Here is another view of the sparkly blue and beige house.  There are even some tiny figures along the side.

This house is covered with lottery tickets.  The Santa and sleigh are just the right scale for the house.

The house on the left is painted and then stamped with white heat embossing - very pretty.  You can't see it here, but there is a photo inside that you can see through the circle cut out.

The gingerbread house on the left was painted and then the lines were drawn with white pearl pen.  The color from the paint changed the white to a pretty shade for a more "antiqued" look.

The houses look very cute in a cloud of white batting to represent snow.  We are having very unusual weather with temperatures in the high 50's in December!

I think this was the most unusual and so very clever - the house is set in a cluster of branches to make it a tree house!

The branches are stuck into a sparkly "snow" covered base.  The outside is covered in wood grain for a very natural looking house.

If you have the Winter Woodland Cricut cartridge there are some 3D houses that you can cut and assemble.  These were chipboard and a little tricky to cover perfectly.  I hope to have a chance to decorate a few more of my houses - and I may bring a few extra bits amd pieces up to the shop for the sides of my house.

If you are a Design Studio user - good news!  The update for the newest cartridges is finally available.  Just CLICK HERE to go to the page on the Cricut.com site where you can download the content update.  You need to be logged in to the Cricut site to get the download.

You will see the October and November cartridges listed.  Just click the download button and be sure to SAVE the file to your computer.  Then run the update.

You can see that the list shows 'Tis the Season - I am happy to have this available to use in Design Studio now.  If you already have Design Studio open, you will need to close it and reopen the program to see the new cartridges.

I am curious to know how many of you are using Design Studio these days.  Have you tried the Cricut Craftroom?  Do you use a Gypsy?  Have you moved on to other machines and programs that allow you to design your own images?  I was always a great fan of Design Studio and I wish that it would have been updated as promised.  I have used the Craftroom but find that it still doesn't allow me to do some of the things I want to do.  My favorite software right now is the Silhouette Studio for both the print and cut and the ability to quickly and easily make shadows and layers of my own designs.  Of course, you need a Silhouette machine to cut these designs.

It's nice to know that there are so many choices available.

I hope you have a wonderful crafty day!
