Sweet Baby Card

You may remember the "sneak peek" that I posted back in April.  I asked readers to guess which cartridge this might be from.  A lot of people thought it might be one of the cake cartridges, but Mary Ann guessed correctly - Nursery Rhymes.

This baby card is made with one of the images on the Nursery Rhymes cartridge (it is on the "Rock A Bye Baby" key).  Do you see the sweet baby in the basket?

To find out all about the card and download the free .cut file you'll need to take a virtual trip to Australia and visit the Scrappy-Go-Lucky blog - here is a LINK.  While you are there be sure to browse around and see some of the great recent projects by the other members of the Scrappy-Go-Lucky Design Team.

I'll have another challenge to post tomorrow - I hope you are having a great weekend.

We had a very fast trip to New Jersey and back and now have our younger son home from college for the summer.  It's hard to believe he only has one more year of college!

Nursery Rhymes - enabling...

One of the newest Cricut cartridges is the Nursery Rhymes cartridge.  It has a great font and charming silhouetted images from many favorite nursery rhymes.  You can get more information and ideas for using the cartridge at this LINK on the Cricut website.  You can download the complete handbook from the link on that page.  I am happy to see the improvements to the website that make it easier to find out all about a cartridge before you buy it.  Most cartridges have much more than you can see in the image on the back of the box.

I am away on a short trip to New Jersey and Pennsylvania - to see my son's concert and to visit with my Dad.  One of the side benefits to a trip to see Dad is a chance to go to a "super Jo-Ann's" just a few miles from where he lives.  The Jo-Ann's stores near my home are all small stores.  I stopped there tonight and saw that they have tons of Nestabilities, the new Cricut Cake and most of the accessories including frosting tubs and sheets and many paper packs that are not at "my" store in Massachusetts.

I have always liked Debbie Mumm's designs and I found a cardstock stack that will be perfect to use with the Nursery Rhymes cartridge.  The sign said that the Debbie Mumm papercrafting supplies were 60% off but when I got to my Dad's I realized that they had charged me 40% off.  I'll have to call in the morning to check on this - it is possible I misunderstood the sign.  (Of course, it would be better if I had noticed this before I left the store...).  I think this is probably an older stack that never made it to my local store.

I took photos of all of the pages so you could see what this stack has to offer.  It is late so I won't give you my usual "commentary" but I will do a review of the Nursery Rhymes cartridge soon after I get home.  So, without further ado,  take a look at a whole lot of cute!

Here is a closer view of the front cover listing the featured nursery rhymes.  12 of the patterns have glitter and 12 are plain.  There are two sheets of each design in the stack.

One more "green" tip - on most of the stacks made by DCWV (they manufacture the Debbie Mumm papers for Jo-Ann's) there are small squares of the papers on the cover.  Don't throw away the cover - these little pieces can be used for projects with a bit of careful trimming.

One last photo from after the concert - I know stripes and plaids don't go together but somehow they work for our son (you should have seen the rest of the outfit!).   The concert was great and now he just has to take his finals and that will be the end of junior year.

Lots of New Cartridges this month - time to update your Design Studio!

Yesterday was "Hello Thursday" and a number of new cartridges were announced.  As there are more and more cartridges to choose from it is important to look at them carefully to decide which you want to add to your collection.  I think it is getting to the point where most of us (despite our "collector" tendencies) can't have them all!

Fortunately, Provo Craft is doing a great job of announcing the cartridges, providing full digital handbooks and software updates and giving selected bloggers early copies to make actual samples with the new designs.  You can see some wonderful ideas in the projects created by the Everyday Cricut owners showcased on their personal blogs - Joy at Obsessed with Scrapbooking and Melanie at Courtney Lane Designs.  Joy and Melanie have twelve cartridges to give away between them so you will definitely want to visit and enter for a chance to win.  The Pink Stamper and Creative Critter Tammy are also previewing cartridges with giveaways - you will be busy blog hopping to see everything!  I do not know if there are any other previewers this month - I will add links if I find out about any more.

The new cartridges that were announced are:

Three full cartridges: Create a Critter, Nursery Rhymes and Robotz.

Three Summer seasonal mini (limited edition) cartridges:  Independence Day, Summer in Paris and Summer Vacation

Four Cricut Cake cartridges:  Cake Basics (which will be packaged with the Cake machine), Birthday Cakes, Elegant Cakes and Holiday Cakes.

There will also be two more cartridges going into retirement - Stamped and Tags, Bags, Boxes & More.  If you don't have these cartridges and are interested in them you should try to buy them as soon as possible.  One of the very first cartridges that I "had to have" was Tags, Bags, Boxes and More and I do find it very useful.

You can find the sample sheets and the downloadable handbooks for all of the cartridges on the Cricut.com site on the Cartridge Library page of the Information tab - here is a LINK.

The other exciting announcement was that there will be Cuttlebug folders specifically designed to coordinate with certain Cricut cartridges - the example shown in the email was a set of four for the Robotz cartridge.

I haven't had a chance to look through all of these new cartridges in detail - you can add them to your Design Studio program by downloading the latest font pack update.  Then you will be able to start designing with your favorites and be ready to cut when the cartridges are available to purchase!

If you have the current version of the software (1.0.31101.0), you will only need to download and install the updated Font Pack.  You can check your version by using the "help" menu and choosing "About" to pull up the information box.

To update your Design Studio program to include these cartridges, go to this LINK (you will need to be signed in to the Cricut.com site) and download the Font Pack.  Be sure to SAVE the download and then run it to install the new cartridges.  Your Design Studio software should be closed when you do this.  When you open the program, the new cartridges will be included in the "All by Category" list.

The next three cartridges are the Summer seasonal mini cartridges - these are limited edition cartridges with fewer images.  They are Independence Day, Summer in Paris and Summer Vacation.  These cartridges do not have handbooks.

The last four cartridges are for the Cricut Cake machine which will be available soon.  However, you can use the cartridges and cut the images with any of the Cricut machines and I think these all look like they will be great choices for paper crafting.

I will try to post my reviews of these cartridges soon - it will take a while to look through them all!   Right now I am most interested in the Cake cartridges - and I don't decorate cakes!

It will be fun to explore all of the new possibilities.  Have a great weekend!
