Abstract Twinkle Card

Have you been following the Tim Holtz "12 tags of Christmas" series so far?  The tags have all been lovely and inspiring with lots of techniques demonstrated.  I am hoping to try at least some of them.  If you haven't seen these yet, be sure to visit Tim's Blog - today will be Day 6.

I was thinking about the series coming up before we left for Spain and did some "messing around" with inks.  I didn't take photos of all of the steps along the way but I thought I'd show you a card I made with one of the results of my experiments.

I started out with plain ivory cardstock cut to 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches and folded in half.  I embossed the bottom of the card front with the word "twinkle" from the Cuttlebug All-in-One Twinkle set(When I went to look up the link for this set I noticed some new Cuttlebug items that I hadn't seen before, click HERE to go to the general Cuttlebug page where you can see these - new quilling/rosette dies and companions sets for Fancy Frames and Word Collage were some of the new things I noticed).

I started with a full card and applied various colors of distress ink with a blending tool, sprayed it with water and added some Glimmer Mist.  The card got pretty went and curled even after drying so I decided to cut the front panel to 4 x 5 1/4 inches and place it on a solid dark green card base.

I had inked in some dark green areas to look like evergreen trees and I added some stars at the tops of the trees and more gems stickers to represent stars in the sky.

I thought the little flower at the end of the flourish should have a red center, just to make it different from the stars in the sky and on the trees.

I rolled the cardstock a bit to try to flatten the curling and then used lots of strong adhesive to adhere it to the card base.

It is nearly impossible for me to capture the effect of the Glimmer Mist - it gives the entire card front a lovely sheen.  The color I used is called "Sun Sisters" from Tattered Angels (this is my favorite color).

This was a different sort of card for me - I usually do more die cutting and very little inking.  It was fun to try mixing and blending the colors and watching the reaction when I added some water in the spray.

Enabler Alert....

I promise I won't talk about the Blitsy site everyday but I just have to tell you that on Monday they added lots of LaBlanche stamps to the sale.  These are the stamps I learned about in January at CHA - I had the chance to watch the artist color and emboss an image - here is a LINK to the old post.

The prices are about half of the regular price (some a little more and some a little less).  If you haven't joined the free membership site yet, here is my link

After you join, you can refer your friends and family - go to the "invites" page to get your link and you may earn some credits to use for shopping on the site.  Sales last for a week (while supplies last) and new items are posted on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 10 a.m. Central Time.

Monday was a mild day for December and we did get manage to get the large ornaments on the outdoor tree and the lights along the back fence.  The Santas are on the mantle and it's starting to look a bit like Christmas around here!

Today is Nikolaustag - St. Nicholas Day.  On the evening before - Nikolausabend - German children put out their boots in the hopes of finding treats from St. Nikolaus - our boys enjoyed this tradition when we lived in Germany.  What's not to like about early extra presents for Christmas!

La Blanche Stamps at CHA

Today I have another photo intensive post to share.  One of my favorite discoveries at the Winter CHA in Los Angeles was the La Blanche stamps.  If you missed my first post about this company you can find it HERE and you can visit their website HERE.  These incredibly detailed and elegant stamps have a style that appeals to many people and are becoming very popular.

Crowds would gather around the booth when Jacqueline was demonstrating her technique for coloring and embossing the images.  She often uses a lot of UTEE (ultra thick embossing enamel) to finish a piece with a hard glossy coating.

There are more step by step photos in the post I linked above.  She uses distress inks and pen nibs to color the images.

The booth was full of incredible examples of art made with these images.  There were lots of fabric flowers and laces added to collages that have a very "old world" style with a twist.

You can click on any of these photos to enlarge the image and see the details more clearly.  Believe it or not, there were even more samples on display - all of them were simply amazing!

I hope you enjoyed this "virtual visit" to the La Blanche booth.  Even if this is not your typical style it is easy to appreciate the talent it took to create these beautiful samples.

While at CHA, I had a chance to meet up with Joan who is an internet friend.  We have emailed back and forth when she needed some help with Design Studio.  Joan is a big fan of the LaBlanche line and sells them in her online store.

Joan was lucky enough to receive this lovely piece as a gift.  You can read about her meeting with Jacqueline HERE and also see the stamps that she will have available for sale soon.

Just a quick reminder - the Creative Memories "FANtastic" sale celebrating their Best Brand win will end tonight (Thursday) at 11:59 p.m. (Central Time).  The discounts are up to 40% with over 150 items on sale.  You can shop on my CM personal website HERE if you do not already have a consultant.  Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions.
