Have you been following the Tim Holtz "12 tags of Christmas" series so far? The tags have all been lovely and inspiring with lots of techniques demonstrated. I am hoping to try at least some of them. If you haven't seen these yet, be sure to visit Tim's Blog - today will be Day 6.
I was thinking about the series coming up before we left for Spain and did some "messing around" with inks. I didn't take photos of all of the steps along the way but I thought I'd show you a card I made with one of the results of my experiments.
I started out with plain ivory cardstock cut to 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches and folded in half. I embossed the bottom of the card front with the word "twinkle" from the Cuttlebug All-in-One Twinkle set. (When I went to look up the link for this set I noticed some new Cuttlebug items that I hadn't seen before, click HERE to go to the general Cuttlebug page where you can see these - new quilling/rosette dies and companions sets for Fancy Frames and Word Collage were some of the new things I noticed).
I started with a full card and applied various colors of distress ink with a blending tool, sprayed it with water and added some Glimmer Mist. The card got pretty went and curled even after drying so I decided to cut the front panel to 4 x 5 1/4 inches and place it on a solid dark green card base.
I had inked in some dark green areas to look like evergreen trees and I added some stars at the tops of the trees and more gems stickers to represent stars in the sky.
I thought the little flower at the end of the flourish should have a red center, just to make it different from the stars in the sky and on the trees.
I rolled the cardstock a bit to try to flatten the curling and then used lots of strong adhesive to adhere it to the card base.
It is nearly impossible for me to capture the effect of the Glimmer Mist - it gives the entire card front a lovely sheen. The color I used is called "Sun Sisters" from Tattered Angels (this is my favorite color).
This was a different sort of card for me - I usually do more die cutting and very little inking. It was fun to try mixing and blending the colors and watching the reaction when I added some water in the spray.

Monday was a mild day for December and we did get manage to get the large ornaments on the outdoor tree and the lights along the back fence. The Santas are on the mantle and it's starting to look a bit like Christmas around here!
Today is Nikolaustag - St. Nicholas Day. On the evening before - Nikolausabend - German children put out their boots in the hopes of finding treats from St. Nikolaus - our boys enjoyed this tradition when we lived in Germany. What's not to like about early extra presents for Christmas!
