Yesterday was "Hello Thursday" and two new Cricut cartridges were announced. One is a seasonal cartridge called "Scandinavian Christmas Cards" and the other is an Imagine Art cartridge called "Hey Diddle Diddle." You can find the Scandinavian Christmas Cards cartridge in the shopping section of the Cricut.com site HERE. It was showing as "out of stock" when I wrote this post.
There are only 50 image keys on the seasonal cartridges and the Scandinavian Christmas Cards cartridge has ten layered images, six single layer word art titles and two cards with two envelopes. The images are not particularly Scandinavian - I would have expected more geometric borders and trims (similar to Jan Brett's book illustrations). The people are in the "pointy toe" style that I find a bit odd. The seasonal cartridges are less expensive (list price $24.99) and, if you don't already have a selection of Christmas cartridges and you like the images, this could be useful for card making. I don't think it is a "must have." If you can find the discontinued "Christmas" Solutions Cartridge, or one of the other full Christmas cartridges on sale, you would have a lot more cuts to work with for a similar cost.
The Hey Diddle Diddle Imagine Art cartridge is on the Cricut.com site HERE. The list price is $55.99. This is another Cosmo Cricket cartridge. I do like most Cosmo Cricket designs but the images in the look book are almost too "cute" for me. I think the designs will appeal to a lot of people - they just aren't my style. There have been quite a few baby cartridges released this year so you have a lot of choices. The papers are nice and, for the most part, they would be good for all sorts of projects since only a few are definitely "childlike" in style. There are several patterns that are repeated in various colorways and, once again, I wish that we could adjust the colors on the Imagine as you do in a digital scrapping program so more basic designs could be included. There are six shades of the crosshatch design and four of the gingham pattern and if we could alter the colors, many more designs could have been included.
I'd be curious to hear what you all think of these cartridges - and also would be interested to hear your thoughts on what types of images and styles are missing from your collection.
The image at the top of this post is some word art I put together using the sentiments in the Creative Memories Primary Christmas Digital Kit. I selected various parts of each word group and copied them to create separate groups to fill with a variety of Christmas papers.
This is a fun thing to do and you can vary the look tremendously by choosing different papers. I created this at a 12 x 12 size but I will probably print some much smaller versions to use for cards.
I am still trying to catch up from the wedding and my trip to Pennsylvania - I am hoping to tackle my overfull email inbox tomorrow.
