CIU Challenge 324: Tie it up (Strings, Twine or Ribbon)

Good morning,
A new Cut it Up Challenge as started. You can find the challenge HERE.

For these challenges, a die-cut is anything made with a manual or an electronic die-cutting machine. (Spellbinders, Cricut, MFT dies, Silhouette, etc.). Store bought die-cuts are also acceptable. Please note that handheld punches and/or paper-piecing DOES NOT count as a die-cut

Because I go it fits and starts using it, I donated most of my ribbons and heavy twine when I had to move. I did keep some but in limited colors mostly in neutrals. Lucky for me a friend sent me some lovely heavier twine in purples and its was perfect for this card.

My card
I do like the mix of yellow and purple. Reminds me of our deserts here in Arizona when our bushes and such are in full bloom!

Birthday Gnomes ...

Good morning,

Sharing another January Birthday card…

One of my co-workers is really into the animal print stuff … like décor, clothing etc. and she likes gnomes!

I’m still sure about this new set of alcohol markers I bought… I am no expert at coloring, but I really struggled with getting them to blend out like I wanted so it took multiple layers to get the look I wanted. I’m still not super happy with the edges of their caps but it is what it is. I’ll keep playing with them but so far … meh.

I do love this image from Andrea though. One of my favorites of hers. I did a little fussy cutting around the top so they would show up a little more againsts the design paper,

Sketch Used

Card size: 5.50 x 8.50
Supplies
  • Alcohol markers from The Creative Expert
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio (base)
  • Design Paper from Heidi Swapp (Sugar Chic)

Birthday Candles ...

Good morning,

Sharing another January Birthday card…

Although I am making more complicated or embellished cards, my comfort zone has always been CAS cards so when I saw a sketch from Cas(e) this Sketch, I had to make it and I had just the new die that I bought during one of the Holiday sales that was perfect to use!

The card just looked so unhappy with a plain background, and I don’t have a suitable embossing folder that was large enough to fit the paper. And then I remembered my crimping tool from Fiskars! Do any of you remember or still have yours? I think they were all the rage when I first started paper crafting. Anyway, I still have mine because it comes in handy now and again.

I decided to use it as the backdrop for the candles. I think it really brought the card up a couple levels.

I wanted to add some sparkle and used some gems I had in my stash that I colored with a yellow alcohol marker. Perfect and soooo cute!

This is probably one of my favorite cards I’ve made!

Birthday Balloons ...

Good morning,

Sharing another January Birthday card…

The design paper I used for the balloons was a tad lighter than I wanted so I layered them onto some super heavy-duty cardstock. I used scraps from that same cardstock to create some lift. This works great when I want just a bit of dimension but not so extreme as you can get when you are using foam.

Inspired by this sketch

Supplies
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio (base) and scrap bin
  • Design Paper from Ms Sparkles & Co. (Woodgrain) and Unknown

  • Punch from Stampin up! (Pick a banner)
  • Sentiment from Stampin Up!

The Outlawz Color Challenge: Think of Mom (or Grandma)

Good morning!
A new Color Challenge has started at The Outlawz Challenges. You can check it out HERE

Our challenge this month is a pretty pallet featuring dusky blues and pinks with a twist of thinking about mom (or Grandma)

Sadly, I lost my mom in 2020 after a stroke, but there is another strong, independent woman in my life that is like another mom to me so I made my card with her in mind and will be sending this to her for Valentines Day!

I got a new light box with adjustable lighting and I am still trying to get it figured out. My card is a bit dark but the colors really are soft dusky blues and pinks...

White Elephant Christmas ...

We had a white elephant lunch at work with our department. To participate, we had to have a gift card and an ornament. I made this ornament and a framed paper pieced Christmas Tree which I forgot to take a photo of.

Even this is not a great photo because you can' see the glitter glue I added to the bottom.

The little clip board came from The Dollar Tree. I just added the snow peeples and ribbon.

Something New … Challenge 321

Good morning,

Today I am sharing my card for the Cut it Up Challenge. You can find the challenge HERE.

For these challenges, a die-cut is anything made with a manual or an electronic die-cutting machine. (Spellbinders, Cricut, MFT dies, Silhouette, etc.). Store bought die-cuts are also acceptable. Please note that handheld punches and/or paper-piecing’s DO NOT count as a die-cut

We are starting off he NEW Year with a great challenge … Share something NEW! It can be anything, new baby, new pet, new home – I think you get the picture.

For me it happens to be a new crafting set I’ve had my eye on for a while. The Waffle Flower Postage Collage dies. I happened upon a nice sale before the end of 2024 that, along with the die set, icluded a small set of stamps and two sets of stencils.

I also used some hearts that are created when using the Detailed Heart die from Stampin Up as embellishments! They are in different sizes so make great embellishments or confetti for shaker cards. As a side note after the fact, I decided to add some liquid diamonds to the hearts to make them stand out a little more.

Supplies: 5 x 7 card
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio (base), Stampin Up! And Bazzill
  • Die from Stampin Up! (Detailed Hearts)
  • Dies, stencils and stamps from Waffle Flower (Postage Collage)
  • Ink from Tsukineko and Scrapbook.com
  • Stamps from Stampin Up! (Approaching Perfections “Candles”) and Unity Stamps (Let them eat cake “Hello You”), Party Party Party & Make a Wish

Christmas Tags

I started a new job this past March with a local School District as a Buyer. It’s been an interesting adventure after having worked in Aerospace for well over 30 years. I love it though and while it is serious stuff it’s a much more stress free atmosphere!

We had so many events this Holiday Season one of which was a Secret Santa event that I decided to participate in. I had so much fun picking out and making gifts for my person.

They do set a price target but let’s be real. It’s hard to stay within what they recommend given the cost of anything these days. So I decided to see that I could make to go along with the items I selected.

I was pawing through a bin of items looking for something I could use when I found a set of stars that I had bought from the Dollar Tree who knows when!

Perfect gift tags!

I found a star die that was just a tag larger than the wood stars, so I cut out 4 pieces from white glitter paper. I removed the twine and lined one up for the hole and punched them all to match. After stamping the backside with a to & from and glued to the back of the wood star so the glitter side would show through. Then I added rhinestones to add some sparkle.

Retreaded them with the twine and packaged them up nice and neat to add to the basket I had created with some treats.

These came out so nice, I’m think I will have so watch for more stars and make some for myself!

Cara

Welcome to 2025!!!

Good Afternoon and Happy New Year.

Welcome to 2025 and once again, I am running way late getting my card for The Outlawz January 2025 Sketch Challenge!

2024 has been crazy for me – so many life changes. Adjusting to life as a non-married person. Selling my home of 23 years and relocating to an unfamiliar area and having to learn where everything is and all the stuff that goes along with that. Interviewing and accepting a new job after being retired for 6 years.

I am staying blissfully positive that 2025 will be an amazing year for me and I hope it is for you as well!

Our challenge this month (located HERE) is being sponsored by Anne’s Digital Arts (located HERE).

This month we are asking you to use a circle with a twist of cute.

The image I chose is not necessarily “cute”, but I thought the design paper would help with that as I love the colorful polka dots. Kinda of reminded me of Christmas lights! My favorite color! LOL

I colored with image with some new alcohol markers I bought at a pretty good price at a discount department store. They are from the Creative Expert, 128 markers which also came in a nice carry case. I did have to use a couple of Copic colors as well since they were colors not in the CW set.
They aren’t bad. The fine tips are not so fine so it was a bit difficult to work in some of the smaller areas of the image, but I made it work.

Sketch used: SSC 617

Supplies: 5 x 7 card
  • Image from Anne’s Digital Art (Christmas Grape Vine Wreath) printed on Hammermill Color Copy
  • Alcohol Markers from Creative Expert and Copics
