Magic of Prayer ...

In addition to the magic of love which moves the human heart, there is yet another magic which can remove mountains. That, of course, is faith. Lucky is he who has both, and this is especially true in age. ~Cid Ricketts Sumner, "I believe, yes, I believe," A View from the Hill, 1957

Hi All,
I dug through my scrapbinder and decided to use this panel with the cat which was salvaged from another card that was damaged and unusable. I rifled through my other binder which holds matched papers/cardstock pieces and found some bits that I thought worked well with the image.

Autumn Owl

Oh how we love pumpkin season. You did know this gourd-ish squash has its own season, right? Winter, Spring, Summer, Pumpkin... We anxiously anticipate it every year. ~Trader Joe's, Fearless Flyer, October 2010

Hi All,

Today I’m sharing a remake of a twisted easel card I made several years ago.
I never passed the card on to anyone because I always had an issue with the base.

I used a design paper that looks great but is too flimsy to hold the front up nicely once the image was attached. I tried using a paper clip and that helped a bit but not enough to make me happy.

So, I cut the front piece off and created a new card. Hope you like it!

Day 24, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
“When someone tries to trigger you by insulting you or by doing or saying something that irritates you, take a deep breath and switch off your ego.
Remember that if you are easily offended, you are easily manipulated.”

Today is day 24 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE and today I am sharing a new card I made using salvaged pieces from one I’d made but (Ahem) dropped a black ink pad on.

I ended up tearing the original card to pieces when trying to dismantle but I managed to salvage the bird and the button brad.

There is a touch of a glitter pattern on the bird that has an iridescent look. I was able to dig some glitter cardstock scraps out of my scrap pile that actually works quite well with it.

A new embossed background and a a bit of layering and I have a card that can be used for whatever. I sometimes don’t use sentiments on the front.

Day 20, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

Dad, your guiding hand on my shoulder will remain with me forever. ~Author Unknown

Today is day 20 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE .

This card started out with a “Miss you” sentiment but I never used so it has been sitting in my card file for several years. With the Create Daily Challenge I figure now was a good time to change it up so I would use it!

This card always felt masculine to me so I changed out the sentiment to Happy Father’s Day. I also decided a bit of color would go a long way to brightening it up so I used some yellow nuvo drops here and there. I didn’t even think about the ink being water based and the Nuvo drops re-activated it causing the color to change from yellow to a reddish orange in a few areas. While unintentional I do really like how it looks.

Day 19, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

Age is like the latest version of a software — it has a bunch of great new features but you lost all the cool features the previous version had. ~Terri Guillemets, "Thirties and beyond," 2006

Today is day 19 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE .

I missed day 18 because of this card which I am not sure I really like to be honest!

Part of the card front is from a salvaged card that I got who knows where. I matched the cardstock to the design paper best I could and added some left-over die cut birds I had in my die cut basket.

I then punched out three small circles and added to the card front. I do this all the time when I want to add embellishments to a card but either don’t have the right colors or size I want.

To jazz them up a bit I had Judikins diamond glaze to them. Sometimes I add glitter glue before topping with the diamond glaze.

But it this case, the three circles I punched are still cloudy with a bit of a blue look. I rarely have issues with this process and though maybe because the house was bit cold, so I waited and it never cleared up. Now I am wondering if the cardstock I used released some die into the wet glaze or if my glaze is old.

Day 15, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

O, money can't buy the delights of the glen,
Nor Poetry sing all its charms:
There's a solace and calm ne'er described by the pen
When we're folded within Nature's arms!
~James Rigg, "Nutting Time," Wild Flower Lyrics and Other Poems, 1897

Today is day 15 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE and I am sharing a card that can be used for almost any occasion.

I was flipping through my book of UFO’s (Un-Finished Objects, Isn’t this hilarious? I picked it up from another crafter. Makes so much sense!)

Anyway, I digress!

As I was saying … I was flipping through my book of UFO’s looking for something to work on and settled on a fairly stuffed pocket thinking there HAD to be something interesting inside and emptied it out on my work bench …

It appeared to be mostly card bases that I had created but probably decided to go with something else at the time and just filed them away for later use … which explains why they were all stuffed into the same pocket.

Sorting through the mess I made, I found a 5 x 7 card base that had an attached blue embossed front.

With that I went to my basket of unused die cuts (which I really need to do something with!). I remember seeing some things I thought would work with the blue card base and lucky me I found them: A pile of die cut green clouds (which I have no idea why I cut them) and a die cut tree base that had been embossed with one of my wood look folders (which was for a Halloween card I'd started but then changed my mind and went in another direction.) A little more scrounging and I found a packet of die cut birds left overs from another card so BONUS!

Here is my completed card!

I layered out the green clouds and used foam dots to give dimension.
I then dug out my box of prima paper flowers and added some of those in pretty shades of pink and topped them with some yellow rhinestones from the dollar tree for the centers.

I then added the birds.

Quite often I do not add a sentiment to the front of my cards so they can be used for anything I need it for. Although this one sure seems very Spring like to me … so it will probably go out as an Easter card!

Day 13, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

Who does not thank for little will not thank for much. ~Estonian proverb

Today is day 13 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE and I am sharing a new thank you card.

The original card was made about 4 years ago.

At one point I was cleaning out my card file and this card literally fell into pieces. If I remember correctly that was around the time, I bought some glue sticks which I think may have been old or bad because I had multiple cards fall apart during the mailing cycle. I’d find this out when the recipient called to tell me they received the card but it was in pieces.

Since this was the only thing I could think of, those sticks promptly when into the trash and I rarely use glue sticks now except to seal envelopes.

This is the new card

The cardstock used for the base is from Stampin Up!
That’s pretty much the only thing new. Everything else I was able to reuse.

Day 12, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

In order to keep a true perspective of one's importance, everyone should have a dog that will worship him and a cat that will ignore him. ~Dereke Bruce

Today is day 12 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE and I am sharing a card I had to do a re-make of.

I noted in one of my earlier post that I seem to have a problem with dropping ink pads on my finished cards and this was one of my victims. This poor card got nailed twice! I dropped the pad on the edge and in the process of picking it up I dropped it again!

BEFORE

For this reason, I could not salvage the card base or the pink embossed cardstock. I also had to trim a bit of the main panel. I tried recreating as an A2 cards but really didn’t like how it was looking so opted to go with a 5 x7 size card base. I like it much better!

RE-MAKE

Supplies
  • Reclaimed card front (supplies were all from Close to My Heart)
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio
  • Pearls from Recollections

Day 9, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

The true peace of God begins at any spot a thousand miles from the nearest land. ~Joseph Conrad

Today is day 9 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE and I am playing along best I can this month.

For my card today I pulled out a card front I made that required some paper piecing. This is actually the pieces left from another card I did a while ago. I'm thinking I didn't do anything with this because a section torn out, which means I must have damaged it and didn’t have the patience or time to figure out a fix.

It really was just a simple fix with the sentiment cover the damaged part. So now I have a nice masculine birthday card to add to my file.

Supplies
  • Repurposed item: card front made with sailing ship
  • Card stock from The Paper Studio (base) and Stampin Up!
  • Design paper from Colorbok
  • Die from Printable Heaven (?)
  • Embossing folder from Stampin Up!
  • Ink from Stampin Up!
  • Sentiment from Stampin Up!

Several years ago, I was given a bag of craft items and mixed in with the various items were about a dozen handmade cards that had seen better days, but they had potential!

For my project today, I pulled out a 6 x 6 square easel card that no matter what I tried, I just not could not figure out a way to make it usable so I just cut apart and used the pieces to make 2 cards. Day 4, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

Hugging has no unpleasant side effects and is all natural. There are no batteries to replace, it's inflation-proof and non-fattening with no monthly payments. It's non-taxable, non-polluting, and is, of course, fully returnable. ~Author unknown

Today is day 4 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE and I am playing along best I can this month.

For my day 4 project I did not make another Christmas Card but I’m sure there will be more in the future as I have lots Christmas Type bits & pieces to use!

Anyway … I seem to have a terrible problem dropping ink pads on finished cards. I have no clue why but I guess I have about 10 cards sitting in a pile waiting to be checked over to see if I can salvage anything off of them

My card today was actually made for a challenge last year. (You can see the original post HERE). I had made it with someone specific in mind and while I was getting the stamp for the inside inked up, I hit the pad just right and yep … there it was, splat! Sometimes I get lucky and the mishap can been swiftly and easily covered with no one but me the wiser, but not this time!

Needless to say, I was not happy so set the card aside for a later recovery effort and here it is.

The card was a 5 x 7 card so I had to trim quit a bit off the top and along the right side to get the ink streaks off. I had a bit of the original DP I used to die cut the tea cup and sentiment so it made a great layering piece.

Supplies (best I can recall)
  • Repurposed item: Damaged card front
  • Card stock (base) unknown, “vapor” cut from a Bazzill scrap
  • Design paper from Stampin up
  • Dies: Unknown
  • Lace order embossing folder from Darice
  • Silk from Fun Stampers Journey

Another Christmas Card Share!

I can understand people simply fleeing the mountainous effort Christmas has become... but there are always a few saving graces and finally they make up for all the bother and distress.
~May Sarton

I have absolutely no clue where any of the items used to make this card came from. This was a card I started to make in a card class some time ago but never completed. Not even sure I have all the pieces to the origigal card! But its done now!

Its 4.25 x 5.50 and has a tag tucked into the pocket.
