Cut it Up Challenge; Anything goes

Good morning,

Today I am sharing a card for the Cut it Up Challenge #311. You can find the challenge HERE.

For these challenges, a die-cut is anything made with a manual or an electronic die-cutting machine. (Spellbinders, Cricut, MFT dies, Silhouette, etc.). Store bought die-cuts are also acceptable. Please note that handheld punches and/or paper-piecing’s DO NOT count as a die-cut.

Our prompt this new challenge is “Anything Goes”.

I tend to make cards without greetings on the front so I can use them for most occasions. I will add a sentiment as needed or just place it inside instead. This allows me to have more control over the types of cards I have, otherwise I wind up with many cards for one occasion and it can take a long time to use them.
5 x 7 card supplies
  • Cardstock from The Papers Studio
  • Design Paper from FSC.org, Wildflower
  • Die from Kokorosa, Gift Ribbon
  • Die from Unknown, Layered Flowers
  • Stash: Rhinestone
Thanks for stopping by and make sure you check out the challenge and play along!

Off on a New Adventure ...

Good morning,

Sharing a card, I made for a co-worker who left to work from another school district. She loves purple so I added lots of it to the card!
This is a large 7” x 7” square so lots of people could sign it. I even had to make the envelope to fit, which I don’t mind. This is probably the biggest card I’ve made to date, so it was an interesting process.

I couldn’t get the base from one piece of cardstock so had to cut a larger piece for the front and score in a tab to connect the two pieces.

The Astors I cut from a piece of pale-yellow scrap cardstock and then used markers to add more color to the blossoms and green for the leaves. I also colored white cardstock scraps with a darker color and placed in the open gaps of the purple flowers to give a bit more dimension.

Sketch used as inspiration

Supplies for 7 x 7 card
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio (base) and Stampin Up!
  • Design paper: Poiser Glitter Print from DCWV
  • Dies: Floral Layers from Sizzix & Stitched Astor Corner from Memory Box
  • Embossing folders: Slimline Flower from Spellbinders & Subtle from Stampin Up!
  • Liquid silk drops from Fun Stampers Journey
  • Markers: Purple Crayola marker & Copics G07 Nile Green, G99 Olive, Y15 Cadmium Yellow
  • Rhinestones from Stampin Up!
  • Sketch is one I found on Pinterest but there was no link back to where it came from

Paper quilts

Good morning,

My son-in-law has a mother that quilts. Beautiful quilts and she blessed me with one a couple years ago that I absolutely love.

I was thinking of what to get her this year when I decided to make her a set of seasonal quilt pieces for her quilting room only, I would make mine out of paper instead of fabric.

The four pictures represent Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. It was a lot of die cutting and gluing but these turned out amazing and I know she’s going to love them.

WINTER

SPRING

SUMMER

FALL

I methodically wrote down every die I used, the cardstocks and design papers I used and I can’t find it anywhere so I’m betting it got caught up in some tossed scraps when I was cleaning off my work table. Don’t you hate it when that happens??? Anyway, I spent some time going back through everything and I think I got most, if not all of what I used.

Supplies for 10 x 10 pictures
  • Frames purchased from Heart Art via Amazon
  • Embossing folders: Cuttlebug (Spring set); Gina K Designs (Falling Leaves); Sizzix (Airplane & dotted lines set); Sizzix (Snow & tree set)
  • Cardstock: The Paper Studio
  • Design Papers are all from Honeybee Stamps: Beach vibes; Great outdoors; Hot tropics; Hugs & kisses; Over the Rainbow
  • Dies are all from Gina Marie Designs: #1 quilt; #10, Hexagon center; #11, Arrows & squares; #12, Blocks & lines; #14, Triangle me happy; #18, Patchwork; #19, Compass star; #2 quilt; #3, flower burst; #4, Circles; #5 quilt; #8 quilt; Diamond drop quilt; Leaf quilt; Pumpkin quilt; Spring flower quilt

Tyger Tyger, burning bright, ...

Hi everyone!

Today is the start of a new Outlawz Sunday Song & Rhyme Challenge located HERE. This challenge will run for 2 weeks, ending February 4th

This fortnights challenge was selected by Susan

Tyger Tyger, burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies.
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand, dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder, & what art,
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat.
What dread hand? & what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain,
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp.
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?

When the stars threw down their spears
And water'd heaven with their tears:
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the Lamb make thee?

Tyger Tyger burning bright,
In the forests of the night:
What immortal hand or eye,
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

My card is inspired by the lines

“Tyger Tyger, burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?”

EDIT: I'm embarrassed to note that this is not a tiger... I know it's not a tiger. I have no idea what I was thinking when I pulled this stamp out as I actually have a very nice tiger stamp .... (sigh)

Spring is coming! ...

To be glad of life, because it gives you the chance to love and to work and to play and to look up at the stars... and to spend as much time as you can, with body and with spirit, in God's out-of-doors — these are little guide-posts on the foot-path to peace. ~Henry Van Dyke, "The Foot-Path to Peace"

Good morning!
We have a new Sunday Song & Rhyme Challenge to share at The Outlawz Challenges. It will run through April 16, 2022

Our sponsor this fortnight is: Morgans ArtWorld
The prize are these 3 images used by the Team

Our Song/Rhyme this Fortnight was selected by me

Just above the meadow
The cuckoo bird flies flapping
Its wings to perch in a tree
To sing its song of spring
Song of love for flowers and
Butterflies and surly bees

The sprouting leaves in
The wind flutter softly lending
Music to the cuckoo's song
In the sultry afternoon
The stream too sings with the
Cuckoo as it moves along

--- Anil Kumar Panda ---

Spring is coming!

Doesn’t this poem inspire visions of blue skies, varying shades of green and lovely butterflies flitting from place to place? I live in Arizona. Our Springs are short – very short – and while not my favorite time of year I still appreciate and respect the rebirth of the world around me. When the barren desert lands bursts with colors ranging from golden yellows, delicate pinks to vivid reds and purples. This is when I am truly in awe of what nature is capable of.

My card pulls from those thoughts… The blue skies, the shades of green and those lovely, delicate butterflies …

As with many of my cards, I did not add a sentiment to this one right now so that I can use it for whatever I need at the time…

The image is from our sponsor Morgan's Artworld

Supplies, 5 x 7 card
  • Sponsor Image (Fae 18) printed in Hammermill Card Stock
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio (Base) and Stampin Up!
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio, Kraft

Valentine Bow for Sister-in-law ...

My Valentine has paws. ~Patrick McDonnell, @muttscomics, Instagram post, 2020

Good morning,
Today I am sharing a Big Bow card I made for my sister-in-Law for Valentines Day. To be fair, she did ask me to make this for her to place in her hutch as a Valentine decoration after seeing one I made for my Parent-in-laws for Christmas several years ago.

Making the bow is actually pretty easy and straight forward! Of course it would be much easier if I would get motivated and upload the pattern to my scan n cut so I didn’t have to trace and hand cut out everything … anyway, I digress …

The decorating part of the bow can actually be quite time consuming as it takes patience and thought! :O)

Supplies
  • Beaded embellishment from Studio Mr & Mrs
  • Bow Template from sandras scrap shop (Pinterest)
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio and Stampin Up!
  • Design Paper from Close to My Heart (La Vie Rose)
  • Dies from Memory Box (Grape Leaves), Spellbinders (Label 10), Spellbinders (Reflection oval) and Unknown (leaves and vines)
  • Embossing folder from Stampin Up! (Subtle)
  • Ink from Stampin Up!
  • Jewel from my stash

Of birds and blossoms, leaves and light ...

That God once loved a garden We learn in Holy Writ.
And seeing gardens in the spring I well can credit it...
~Winifred Mary Letts, "Stephen's Green," 1926

Today a new Sunday Song & Rhyme Challenge has started at The Outlawz Challenges and will run through March 5, 2022.

Our sponsor this challenge is Gecko Galz with a prize of a $25.00 shopping spree!

Our Song/Rhyme this month was selected Susan

by Sir Charles George Douglas Roberts
A snowy path for squirrel and fox,
It winds between the wintry firs.
Snow-muffled are its iron rocks,
And o'er its stillness nothing stirs.

But low, bend low a listening ear!
Beneath the mask of moveless white
A babbling whisper you shall hear—
Of birds and blossoms, leaves and light.

When reading through the poem, my first thought when reading about is the color blue but I was really inspired by the lines “Beneath the mask of moveless white a babbling whisper you shall hear— Of birds and blossoms, leaves and light.”

I am using an ATC from the set “Cest Le Vie ATC” … It is in shades of blue and have what I think are called cottage roses. Stunning to see actually and it just felt perfect for what I was thinking. Because I love the whole image, I really didn’t want to cover it up so I started checking Pinterest and found a sketch from the Sugar Sketch challenge that I sorta used as a layout guide. I did not place the banners as shown in the sketch but decided the silhouette die cut of birds would be perfect over the top of the image taking the place of the banners.

I am really happy with how this card turned out!

Supplies, 5 x 7 card
  • Cest Le Vie ATC print from GeckoGalz printed on Hammermill Color Copy
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio (Base) and Stampin Up!
  • Die “Birds on a branch” unknown
  • Die “Small Birds” from Gina Marie Designs
  • Embossing folder “Pirouette” from Cuttlebug
  • Embossing folder “Simply Subtle” from Stampin Up!
  • Sketch used is Sugar Sketch Challenge SPDSS09

The Outlawz Crash your Stash Challenge: Water Colors

My heart got to thumping. You can't reason with your heart; it has its own laws, and thumps about things which the intellect scorns. ~Mark Twain

Good morning!
We have a new Crash your Stash Challenge starting at The Outlawz Challenges which will run through March 14th

We have a new to us sponsor this month called Sublidoodle with a prize of $10 gift code to her Etsy shop … She has some super cute images so make sure to check it out HERE

The challenge for this month is to use watercolors.

I have several sets of watercolor pencils and crayons. For this image, I used the crayons and I’m not too happy with the outcome to be honest. I think they are getting old as they seemed a bit cloudy even after using lots of water.

The background is just some great design paper I found at Hobby Lobby and fell in love with!

Sublidoodle gave us a page of images which when combined create different flowers etc so I cut out the heart, some leaves and stems. Water colored them and then layered onto my card base.

Supplies (5 x 7 card)
  • Image from Sublidoodle printed on Hammermill Color Copy
  • Card stock from Pen & Gear (base) and Stampin Up!
  • Design paper from The Paper Studio
  • Die from Stampin Up! (Labels Collection)
  • Embossing folder from Stampin Up! (Subtle)
  • Liquid silk from Fun Stampers Journey (Sparkle)
  • Studio G Glitter glue
  • Water Color Crayons from Stampin Up!
  • Sketch from Always Playing with Paper Callenge #8

Now come on over to The Outlawz Challenges to play along with us or one of the other challenges that are always in process!

Day 24, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
“When someone tries to trigger you by insulting you or by doing or saying something that irritates you, take a deep breath and switch off your ego.
Remember that if you are easily offended, you are easily manipulated.”

Today is day 24 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE and today I am sharing a new card I made using salvaged pieces from one I’d made but (Ahem) dropped a black ink pad on.

I ended up tearing the original card to pieces when trying to dismantle but I managed to salvage the bird and the button brad.

There is a touch of a glitter pattern on the bird that has an iridescent look. I was able to dig some glitter cardstock scraps out of my scrap pile that actually works quite well with it.

A new embossed background and a a bit of layering and I have a card that can be used for whatever. I sometimes don’t use sentiments on the front.

Thanks for stopping by!

Day 15, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

O, money can't buy the delights of the glen,
Nor Poetry sing all its charms:
There's a solace and calm ne'er described by the pen
When we're folded within Nature's arms!
~James Rigg, "Nutting Time," Wild Flower Lyrics and Other Poems, 1897

Today is day 15 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE and I am sharing a card that can be used for almost any occasion.

I was flipping through my book of UFO’s (Un-Finished Objects, Isn’t this hilarious? I picked it up from another crafter. Makes so much sense!)

Anyway, I digress!

As I was saying … I was flipping through my book of UFO’s looking for something to work on and settled on a fairly stuffed pocket thinking there HAD to be something interesting inside and emptied it out on my work bench …

It appeared to be mostly card bases that I had created but probably decided to go with something else at the time and just filed them away for later use … which explains why they were all stuffed into the same pocket.

Sorting through the mess I made, I found a 5 x 7 card base that had an attached blue embossed front.

With that I went to my basket of unused die cuts (which I really need to do something with!). I remember seeing some things I thought would work with the blue card base and lucky me I found them: A pile of die cut green clouds (which I have no idea why I cut them) and a die cut tree base that had been embossed with one of my wood look folders (which was for a Halloween card I'd started but then changed my mind and went in another direction.) A little more scrounging and I found a packet of die cut birds left overs from another card so BONUS!

Here is my completed card!

I layered out the green clouds and used foam dots to give dimension.
I then dug out my box of prima paper flowers and added some of those in pretty shades of pink and topped them with some yellow rhinestones from the dollar tree for the centers.

I then added the birds.

Quite often I do not add a sentiment to the front of my cards so they can be used for anything I need it for. Although this one sure seems very Spring like to me … so it will probably go out as an Easter card!

Thanks for stopping by!

Autumn Leaves …

The bright summer had passed away, and gorgeous autumn was flinging its rainbow-tints of beauty on hill and dale. ~Cornelia L. Tuthill, "Virginia Dare: Or, the Colony of Roanoke," 1840

Hi everyone! Today I am sharing my card for the new color challenge which today at The Outlawz Challenges and sponsored this month by Jan’s Digi Stamps. This challenge will run thru October 19, 2020

Jacqui’s challenge for us this fortnight is 3 colors - orange, red and green and no pumpkins allowed!

I actually messed this one up. I had the image upside down when I stamped the image. Didn’t notice it until I started to photograph the card! I managed to pull the image off the card without tearing it. Them I proceeded to fussy cut it out. I used a Stampin Up ink pen to color some of the open white spaces. Very tedious and not perfect but salvaged!

I’ll add a sentiment later, just not sure if this will be a fall card or a Thanksgiving card yet.

Supplies used
  • Image "Wisp of Autumn" printed on Whisper White cardstock from Stampin Up!
  • Cardstock from Stampin Up! (Base) and Core-dinations
  • Design Paper from DCWV and Close to My Heart
  • Embossing Folder from Carta Bella
  • ProMarkers
  • Color board
