Pumpkin Shelf Sitter

Good morning,
I know I've not posted much lately. Just had a lot going on and trying to reset my priorities. I spend a lot of time o the computer at work so when I get home I don't even want to turn my laptop on! The Holidays have also brought its own share of challenges but I have a bit of time off so I'm trying to get caught up on some posting and stuff.

I bought this wood product pumpkin from The Dollar Tree with the intention of using some fun pumpkin design paper I had to give it a makeover. Very happy with the way it turned out!

Supplies:
  • Design paper unknown
  • Pumpkin Shelf Sitter from The Dollar Tree
  • Mod Podge, Matte Finish
  • Twine was attached to pumpkin when purchased

Fall Leaf Makeover

Good morning,

I bought this wood product lead from The Dollar Tree, but I was not very fond of the design on it but thought I could use some ink and stamps to change it up a bit. When I got home and was checking it over more closely, I realized that there was a monogram W in the design so decided to overhaul the whole thing.

I found some pretty leaf paper in my files, found my new jar of matte finish mod podge and got to work.

I traced around the leaf and trimmed close to the lines so I would have very little paper to remove.

Once done, I brushed mod podge onto the leaf and placed the design paper on top, rubbing and smoothing. Then I set aside to dry.

When it was completely dry I was able to do a bit more trimming with a pair of small sharp scissors I have, next I used an Exacto knife to remove the rest, followed by a bit of work with sandpaper.

When I was happy with it, I covered the sides and top with another could layers of mod podge, then finished it off with a small twine bow.

Very happy with the way it turned out!

Supplies: 5 x 7 card
  • Design paper from The Paper Studio
  • Leaf from The Dollar Tree
  • Mod Podge, Matte Finish

Paper quilts

Good morning,

My son-in-law has a mother that quilts. Beautiful quilts and she blessed me with one a couple years ago that I absolutely love.

I was thinking of what to get her this year when I decided to make her a set of seasonal quilt pieces for her quilting room only, I would make mine out of paper instead of fabric.

The four pictures represent Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. It was a lot of die cutting and gluing but these turned out amazing and I know she’s going to love them.

WINTER

SPRING

SUMMER

FALL

I methodically wrote down every die I used, the cardstocks and design papers I used and I can’t find it anywhere so I’m betting it got caught up in some tossed scraps when I was cleaning off my work table. Don’t you hate it when that happens??? Anyway, I spent some time going back through everything and I think I got most, if not all of what I used.

Supplies for 10 x 10 pictures
  • Frames purchased from Heart Art via Amazon
  • Embossing folders: Cuttlebug (Spring set); Gina K Designs (Falling Leaves); Sizzix (Airplane & dotted lines set); Sizzix (Snow & tree set)
  • Cardstock: The Paper Studio
  • Design Papers are all from Honeybee Stamps: Beach vibes; Great outdoors; Hot tropics; Hugs & kisses; Over the Rainbow
  • Dies are all from Gina Marie Designs: #1 quilt; #10, Hexagon center; #11, Arrows & squares; #12, Blocks & lines; #14, Triangle me happy; #18, Patchwork; #19, Compass star; #2 quilt; #3, flower burst; #4, Circles; #5 quilt; #8 quilt; Diamond drop quilt; Leaf quilt; Pumpkin quilt; Spring flower quilt

The "BER" months are here!!!

Is not this a true autumn day? Just the still melancholy that I love — that makes life and nature harmonize. The birds are consulting about their migrations, the trees are putting on the hectic or the pallid hues of decay, and begin to strew the ground, that one's very footsteps may not disturb the repose of earth and air, while they give us a scent that is a perfect anodyne to the restless spirit. Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns. ~George Eliot, letter to Miss Lewis, 1st October 1841

Good morning!
I think the quote above sums up my feelings about Autumn! I feel it in my soul. Here in Arizona the mornings are a little cooler making trips to the dog park much more enjoyable. I more inclined to start projects that I need to do outside as its not blistering hot and/or humid!

A couple of weeks ago I started thinking about Fall decorations and when I was coming from the mailbox and looking at my Summer-ish door décor I decided I needed something more that the little pumpkin sign that says happy fall y’all.

I started searching through my garage because I just knew I had something I had brought home from my mom’s house and I found it! I still have the little basket you see tucked inside but have not decided what I will do with it yet.

PERFECT!

Then I started rummaging around my boxes of fall foliage to see what I had that I thought I could use to and gather it all together. The orignal flowers that I pulled out of my box just didn't work for me so I made a trip to the store to pick up the Sunflowers and the foam disk. When I started getting everything gathered I could not find my floral wire so it was another trip out to the store to pick some up and while there I found the pumpkin and the stems of fall colored balls that I thought would be perfect accents.

After I got the basket put together I realized I needed another roll of ribbon so that’s not pictured.

Anyway, here are the results! I love how it turned out!

Progressive Freebie Challenge: September 2022

Velvet shadows come and go,
Drifting, whisp'ring breezes,
Winged adieus that sadly blow,
Wave the shadow friezes:
Ghostly branches, bare of leaves,
Gently bend in sorrow;
Summer's parting kiss deceives—
Winter comes tomorrow.
~W. Dayton Wegefarth (1885–1973), "Autumn," Rainbow Verse: A Book of Helpful Sunny Philosophy, 1919

Autumn Comes ...

No spring nor summer's beauty hath such grace
As I have seen in one Autumnal face....
~John Donne, "Elegy IX: The Autumnal"

Good morning!
This morning I am sharing a card I made for the new Sunday Song & Rhyme Challenge which just started. You can find the challenge HERE

Our poem this fortnight is

Summer days are here at last,
Days of school are in the past,
Summer skies will turn to grey,
And summer's warmth will fade away,
Autumn comes and leaves fall down,
Winter comes, snow covers the ground,
Spring comes and brings new life,
And ends all of the winter's strife,
All the seasons come and go,
From the summer's heat to the winter's snow...
--- Katherine Knight ---

Our sponsor this challenge is Alex Syberia Design and I am always thrilled to use one of her gorgeous images! For my challenge card I am using her Autumn Leaves Frame. Although the title says Autumn, I do believe this image can be used for spring as well … just use bright greens instead of the autumnal colors like I used.

I colored my image using my distress markers, a bit of water and the smooshed ink method. I love how it turned out! Once everything was dry, I did a bit of fussy cutting of the center to create a window, added acrylic sheeting and made a fun shaker card using some random leaf confetti and sequins I had in my stash.

Supplies, 5.5 x 7 card
Image Autumn Leaves Frame printed in Hammermill Card Stock
Cardstock from The Paper Studio (base) and scrap box
Die from Spellbinders (Fall Botanicals)
Judikins Diamond Glaze
Leaf confetti and seed beads from my stash
Ranger Distress Markers

Great Blessings

Thanksgiving Day would be a side-play
Minus the golden Pumpkin;
No feast is complete, if they have not to eat,
A circle of yellow Pumpkin.
Oh! the Pumpkin pie will ever out-vie,
Johnny-cake, pone, or corn dodger,
You don't need to chew, it melts like the dew,
When the sun shines bright on the clover.
~Mrs. May C. Hanks (b. 1842), "Pumpkin is Queen"

Today a new Sunday Song & Rhyme Challenge has started at The Outlawz Challenges and will run through October 11, 2021

Our sponsor this month is: Makenna Kroulik with a prize of the two images used by the team.

Summer's flurry
Of green is over,
Apples are ripe,
Mown is clover.
Colors, ablaze
On mountains, burn,
Smolder, and flame
As the seasons turn.
Harvest moon
Comes up at dusk,
Gold as a pumpkin
Or corn in the husk...
~Harry Behn (1898–1973), "Autumn," The Golden Hive, 1966

Thanks be for thee!

But whether we have less or more,
Alway thank we God therefore...
~Author unknown, "Sir Cleges," a French metrical romance, or Fabliau, c. 1300s

Today a new Sunday Song & Rhyme Challenge has started at The Outlawz Challenges and will run through November 27, 2021

Our sponsor this month is: Makenna Kroulik with a prize of the two images used by the team.

We have a beautiful poem from Margaret this Challenge called Autumn Serenade. Lots of cues that could take you in any directions, but of course, Autumn was mine!

This is such a fun image and can be colored to go with any Season. For mine, I used Fall colors as I always seem to be short cards for Thanksgiving!

Autumn Serenade

Through the trees
Comes Autumn with her serenade
Melodies
The sweetest music ever played
Autumn kisses we knew
Are beautiful souvenirs
As I pause to recall
The leaves seem to fall like tears
Silver stars
Were clinging to an Autumn sky
Love was ours
Until October wandered by
Let the years come and go
I'll still feel the glow
That time cannot fade
When I hear
That lovely Autumn serenade
Love was ours
Until October wandered by
Let the years come and go
I'll still feel the glow
That time cannot fade
When I hear
That lovely Autumn serenade
Serenade

Favorite time of Year!

A glorious crown the year puts on... ~Phebe A. Holder, "A Song of October," in The Queries Magazine, October 1890

Good morning!

So sad to say that today is my Day 5, and final day, as a Unity Gal! I hope you have enjoyed this past week as it has been a pleasure sharing with you my creations made with Unity Stamps!

I love Fall, its my favorite time of the year. It’s hard not to get excited with the coming changes! Although I live in the desert, I can still appreciate the few trees around me that shift from greens to gold and red. The shorter days, longer nights and cooler mornings certainly helps the memories of our Summer heat to fade away. And the knowledge of the coming Holiday Season just adds another element of anticipation!

Today I am sharing a Fall card made using scraps from the Fall card I shared on Tuesday and the image Autumn Stoop!

Supplies:
  • Autumn Stoop from Unity Stamp Company
  • Banner punch from Stampin Up!
  • Cardstock from Stampin Up!
  • Corner punch from We R Memory Keepers
  • Design paper from American Crafts
  • Nuvo Drops
  • Pro Markers
  • Tag punch from Stampin Up!

Autumn Owl

Oh how we love pumpkin season. You did know this gourd-ish squash has its own season, right? Winter, Spring, Summer, Pumpkin... We anxiously anticipate it every year. ~Trader Joe's, Fearless Flyer, October 2010

Hi All,

Today I’m sharing a remake of a twisted easel card I made several years ago.
I never passed the card on to anyone because I always had an issue with the base.

I used a design paper that looks great but is too flimsy to hold the front up nicely once the image was attached. I tried using a paper clip and that helped a bit but not enough to make me happy.

So, I cut the front piece off and created a new card. Hope you like it!

Autumn Leaves …

The bright summer had passed away, and gorgeous autumn was flinging its rainbow-tints of beauty on hill and dale. ~Cornelia L. Tuthill, "Virginia Dare: Or, the Colony of Roanoke," 1840

Hi everyone! Today I am sharing my card for the new color challenge which today at The Outlawz Challenges and sponsored this month by Jan’s Digi Stamps. This challenge will run thru October 19, 2020

Jacqui’s challenge for us this fortnight is 3 colors - orange, red and green and no pumpkins allowed!

I actually messed this one up. I had the image upside down when I stamped the image. Didn’t notice it until I started to photograph the card! I managed to pull the image off the card without tearing it. Them I proceeded to fussy cut it out. I used a Stampin Up ink pen to color some of the open white spaces. Very tedious and not perfect but salvaged!

I’ll add a sentiment later, just not sure if this will be a fall card or a Thanksgiving card yet.

Supplies used
  • Image "Wisp of Autumn" printed on Whisper White cardstock from Stampin Up!
  • Cardstock from Stampin Up! (Base) and Core-dinations
  • Design Paper from DCWV and Close to My Heart
  • Embossing Folder from Carta Bella
  • ProMarkers

SheepSki Designs: Fall / Halloween

No spring nor summer's beauty hath such grace
As I have seen in one Autumnal face....
~John Donne, "Elegy IX: The Autumnal"

Good morning!

Another challenge has begun for all you SheepSki Design fans! This month our challenge is to make a card that celebrates Halloween of Fall. Your choice!

For my card I am using the image Winter Warmer #183 and a sketch I Spy Sketches

This card actually gave me fits to make. It seemed like something constantly went awry in the making of.

It started with me masking the image to ink in a background … My mask not only slipped but somehow red ink that was on the piece of paper I used for the mask transferred onto the cardstock. It was unfixable so I fussy cut the image out and set aside to cut new background mats.

Returning to my workbench I could not find the image.

Anywhere!
5 minutes of searching finally found it had slid under my glass mat.

Then in the process of stamping the sentiment, I slipped and smeared the ink … the banner was created to cover THAT mess.

So … the card is finally done with a few modifications to the sketch! And I’m happy with it.

Supplies

  • Image printed on Stampin Up Whisper White card stock
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio (base) and Stampin Up!
  • Design paper from Fun Stampers Journey
  • Ink from Stampin Up!
  • ProMarkers
  • Sentiment from Unity Stamps
  • Textured background paper from my stash
  • I Spy Sketch ISSC08
