Good morning!

A new Progressive Freebie Challenge has started at The Outlawz Challenges located HERE. I am a tad late getting this posted, but there is still plenty of time to play along as the challenge will run for one month ending on June 30, 2023

And as long as you enter before the end of the month you will get the next one free and you will then get them automatically each month you enter a project.

This month’s we have a stunning image from Sandra to create with!

Day 24, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
“When someone tries to trigger you by insulting you or by doing or saying something that irritates you, take a deep breath and switch off your ego.
Remember that if you are easily offended, you are easily manipulated.”

Today is day 24 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE and today I am sharing a new card I made using salvaged pieces from one I’d made but (Ahem) dropped a black ink pad on.

I ended up tearing the original card to pieces when trying to dismantle but I managed to salvage the bird and the button brad.

There is a touch of a glitter pattern on the bird that has an iridescent look. I was able to dig some glitter cardstock scraps out of my scrap pile that actually works quite well with it.

A new embossed background and a a bit of layering and I have a card that can be used for whatever. I sometimes don’t use sentiments on the front.

Thanks for stopping by!

Day 10, Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge

I believe that what we become depends on what our fathers teach us at odd moments, when they aren't trying to teach us. We are formed by little scraps of wisdom.
Umberto Eco
Today is day 10 of the Phoenix Paper Crafters Create Daily Challenge located HERE and I am playing along best I can this month.

I needed to make a birthday card for my Father-in-law so I flipped through my book and pulled out the pieces for card I had started but for some reason never finished.

I did have to find the die and cut out the hands to the clock since it appears that I did not cut those out. Just the gears.

The sentiment was part of larger sentiment but I just masked it off and stamped it out. A burnished brad to attach the hands to the face of the clock and some flicked Silk in silver and licorice for some added interested.

I love how this came together! Simple, but masculine.

Supplies
  • Repurposed item: card base
  • Brad from my stash
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio (base) and Stampin Up!
  • Die unknown
  • India Ink from Memories
  • Sentiment from Stampin Up!
Thanks for stopping by!

Away in a Manger ...

In the old days, it was not called the Holiday Season; the Christians called it "Christmas" and went to church; the Jews called it "Hanukka" and went to synagogue; the atheists went to parties and drank. People passing each other on the street would say "Merry Christmas!" or "Happy Hanukka!" or (to the atheists) "Look out for the wall!" ~Dave Barry, "Christmas Shopping: A Survivor's Guide"

Good morning!
A new Sunday Song & Rhyme challenge is in process at The Outlawz Challenges. This week’s inspiration comes from a rhyme/song selected by Margaret:
Away in a Manger
Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head.
The stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay,
The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.

Dreaming of a White Christmas

Silently, like thoughts that come and go, the snowflakes fall, each one a gem. ~ William Hamilton Gibson

Good morning!
A new Sunday Song & Rhyme challenge is in process at The Outlawz Challenges. Each week we will give you a theme based on a song or a rhyme along with a bit of the lyrics/lines with which to take inspiration from to create a card/project! You can also look on-line to get more information about the Song/Rhyme.

Our sponsor this month is our very own Anne Fenton with a prize of 3 pre-selected digital stamps.

This week’s inspiration comes from a rhyme/song selected by Lynn

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow

I generally struggle with all white cards. I think they look amazing but when I try to make them, I want to start throwing color on them but I do believe I managed to pull this one off. Was so happy with how it turned out I actually made 3 more to add to my Christmas card file.

Supplies (A2 card)
  • Card stock from The Paper Studio
  • Christmas Elegance embossing folder from Embossalicious!
  • Pearls from Recollections
  • Stash: Metal tag, Snowflake sequins
  • White Eyelash trim from a Collage pack
  • White sequin trim from Novtex
So, remember to stop by The Outlawz Challenges where a new challenge starts every day of the week!

Anything but Average ...

The truth is maybe we are just average. But the way I see it — families where parents get up every morning and go to jobs that are hard so they can get their kids through school and through life, and struggle to make it all work and manage to do it with dignity and a little humor — well, that's not average. That's extraordinary. ~DeAnn Heline and Eileen Heisler, The Middle, "Average Rules" (S1, E24, original airdate 2010 May 19th), spoken by the character Frankie Heck

Good morning,
Today I am sharing the Father's Day card I made for my Husband of 30plus years.  We have two grown kids and I think between the two of us, we did a pretty good job of raising two decent human beings.

The layout was lifted from a Fun Stamper Journey card map.

Supplies
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio and Stampin Up!
  • EF “Foundry” from Sizzix
  • Gears are a die set from Sizzix
  • Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil
  • Silver card candy from my Stash
  • Silver Silk from Fun Stampers Journey

Wishing you enough candles ...

When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives mean the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares. ~Henri Nouwen

Good afternoon … I am sharing a birthday card I made for a very good friend of my husbands, actually, he is more like a brother to my husband. I don’t get to make many masculine cards so I enjoy the process when the opportunity arises.

I created the element using a metal embellishment that is supposed to look like a smashed bottle cap. I punch out a circle from a scrap of the DP used for the background. Glued it into the bottle cap then filled with Aleen's Paper Glaze. To be honest, I really like that the glaze did not dry perfectly clear and has some imperfections as it makes it work that much better with the overall card.

Card Size: 5 x 7
  • Card stock (The Paper Studio and Stampin Up!)
  • Dies (Sizzix “Classic circles”, “Decorative accents w/flowers” & Stampin Up! "Lattice")
  • Design paper (unknown)
  • Sentiment (Inkhootz!)
  • Bottle top, Silver card candy (Stash)
  • Aleen’s Paper Glaze
  • India Ink
  • Embossing folder (Cricut “Acanthus”)

The Outlawz: RAK/Random Acts of Kindness

Thought for the day
Appreciate good people. They are hard to come by.
Kushandwizdom

Good morning!
Another beautiful day here in Arizona. I almost feel guilty for our weather because of the snow that people are digging out of right now back east. However, my trade off is 115-120 degree Summer days! I do however, hope they see that cold stuff thaw soon! (brrrrr)

Today is the start of a new CAS Challenge week at The Outlawz!

Our challenge this week is to create an RAK or Random Act of Kindness Card.
So I made a "Thanks" card using an absolutely adorable pen-goo-in stamp my daughter sent me from Japan a while back.
(Yes I know penguin is the correct spelling and correct pronunciation is pen-gwens, but I have been calling them pen-goo-ins since I was little) ... anyway....
I think I am going to start stamping him on the back of my cards, using the word bubble for my initials!
The card is lightly layered. I added the bit of dots around the image and border with a black fine tip pen.

I have someone in mind for this card but that is my little secret!

Card size: A2
SUPPLIES
Card stock from The Paper Studio and Stampin Up!
Black India Ink from Memories
Black Precision Pen from American Crafts
Penguin image - unknown (gift from daughter in Japan)

Washi Wishes!

The merry year is born
Like the bright berry from the naked thorn.
- Hartley Coleridge -

Happy New Year my Crafty Peeps!
I hope that 2015 is starting off awesomely for you all.
I will admit though that I am looking forward to getting back into some semblance of a routine after the hustle and bustle of the Holidays! To much unhealthy food and sleeping in late is taking it's toll on me!

I do try to not make New Year Resolutions, at least not unrealistic ones like being a size 8 by summer or learning a new language by October! The main reason is simply because I wind up feeling guilty and disappointed if I don't meet the expectations I set for myself.

So I set small goals, like getting up a little earlier than normal to re-start my work out program which always seems to go into hibernation during the Holidays! Weight loss and being fit is just a side benefit at this point.

Making better food choices - in this case, it's back to an almost Paleo diet for my husband and myself. We did it once before and felt amazing ... not sure why we stopped to be honest.

This year is also going to have decluttering added (in small bites) to the mix. Since we are talking about downsizing might as well start now and get rid of the stuff that I am so tired of dusting!

I hope, that whatever good and healthy path you choose that you are successful!

Today is another Clean and Simple Challenge at The Outlawz!
Such a popular craft item these days, Washi tape is used on everything from cards to cell phone covers!  Our challenge for you this week is to use Washi Tape on your card or project. Just keep it CAS!

Here is my card! Interesting enough though, Washi tape is not something that I have embraced. Not sure why. In fact, the only reason why I have the tape used here is that I purchased it while in Jaen thinking I would use on a Christmas card (which never happened!)

Supplies:
Card Stock from The Paper Studio
Sentiment from Stampin Up! (Set unknown)
Washi tape was purchased in Japan - mfgr unknown
DP from my scrap bin
India Ink from Memories

Do come play along with us!

The Outlawz Clean & Simple Challenge: Shades of Gray

Awake, thou wintry earth - Fling off thy sadness!

Fair vernal flowers, laugh forth Your ancient gladness!

Thomas Blackburn, "An Easter Hymn"

Good Sunday morning to one and all!
I hope all things are well for you!

Today is the start of the weekly Clean and Simple Challenge at the Outlawz.

The Challenge is Shades of Gray and one neutral!
Come check it out!

My Card
I have had this adorable little elephant dude for a while and I thought this
challenge was a sign that I needed to use him!
I used two shades of gray for him and added him to the card with pop dots.
The heart looked so --- well, plain, so I used a fine tip marker to add the faux stitching.
Much better thank you!

Supplies:
Card stock from American Crafts (Card base), Stampin up! and Bazzill
Elephant die from Cuttlebug
Sentiment from The Angel Company "Squiggly Lady Bugs"
