Make Waves

If you surrender to the wind you can ride it. ~Toni Morrison, quoted in Laura B. Randolph, "The Magic of Toni Morrison," Ebony, July 1988

Hi everyone!
I’m running a bit behind with my card, but a new Outlawz Color Challenge located HERE has started.
This challenge will run for 2 weeks, ending on September 19th and is Sponsored Alex Serbia Design. Her images are stunning and I love using them!

My inspiration from the photo comes from the flower on the tea cup, the colors and the map background. I am using a simple flower image that I did some digital paper-piecing using digital background paper from Touched by a Butterfly, fussy cut out and popped up on foam.

Inspiration Photo

Supplies used for A2 card

Digital pre-colored image (Happy Flower Digi Stamp) printed on Hammermill color copy
Background Stamp from Beeswax Stamps (Old Map)
Digital background from Touched by a butterfly
Ink from Stampin Up!, Versafine Claire and Liquid silk from Fun Stampers Journey
Sentiment from The Angel Company (Sail Away)

Thanks for stopping by and don’t forget to stop by The Outlawz Challenges for more challenges and Inspiration!

The Outlawz Crash your Stash Challenge: Mesh

The best thing to hold onto in life is each other. ~Audrey Hepburn (1929–1993)

Good morning!
We have a new Crash your Stash Challenge starting at The Outlawz Challenges which will run through November 15th

Our generous Sponsor this month Anne Fenton Designs with a prize of 3 images from her blog.

Our cue this month is Mesh

I don’t have a lot of this stuff but I have enough of it to be annoying when I’m searching in my washi tape drawer. It really does add some great texture and dimension though. Which is probably why I still have a couple rolls laying around plus a few colored sheets.

I did overlay the lantern image on top of a lumber-y (is that a word?) background image to give it a bit of depth and interest. Plus, the colors would pull in from the cardstock and the mesh I chose to use.

My husband and I will be celebrating our 36th Wedding Anniversary this year! We’ve had our shares of ups and downs, ins and outs, but with the Grace of God we have managed to sort out what’s important, raise two fine human beings and not kill each other in the process! I think this card says it all!

I love him so much!

Supplies:

  • Image, Lantern printed on Hammermill Premium Cover card stock from Anne’s Digital Arts
  • Card gems from Cloud 9
  • Digi background from Touched by a Butterfly
  • Mesh from Stampin Up!
  • Momento Ink
  • Sentiment from Unity Stamp Company

Now come on over to The Outlawz Challenges to play along with us or one of the other challenges that are always in process!

SheepSki Designs: Celebrate the Season

Christmas is a necessity. There has to be at least one day of the year to remind us that we're here for something else besides ourselves. ~Eric Sevareid

Good morning!
Another challenge has begun for all you SheepSki Design fans! This month our challenge is to use layers!

For my card I am using the image Rachel #54 and a sketch from Deconstructed Sketch. The colors I used are rather non traditional but I really loved out the card turned out.

I find I really love to use sketches … While I lean toward CAS cards, using sketches really helps me out when I want to do layered card or more complicated type cards.

  • Card stock from Stampin Up! and The Paper Studio (Base)
  • Design Paper (Digi) from Touched by a Butterfly
  • Embossing folder from Close to My Heart
  • Glitter paper from my scrap box
  • India Ink from Memories

The Outlawz Challenges Crash your Stash: Glitter

In the sea, the fish have learned to fly,
On a moonlit night on wings of silver,
As the enchanted stars sail serenely by.
Do they know where do unicorns go?
Where winged horses fly?…
~Jimmy Webb, “In the Sea,” Das Letzte Einhorn, 1982

Good morning!
Today is the start of another fun “Crash your Stash” challenge at The Outlawz Challenges

Our item for this month glitter as in loose glitter that gets all over the place (no glitter paper)

When I first started stamping, my kids were young and we did not have a lot of disposable income for me to spend of craft supplies so I learned to make do with what I had or could afford.

Glitter paper always adds a lovely touch to cards and I figured out pretty quick that with a bit of glue stick I could add a sparkling border to my cards.

Nowadays, I used two sided adhesive tape more often that not. For my card, I edged the Design paper with the tape and then dumped on the glitter and used my finger to press into the tape. I tapped off the excess then burnished the edges again for another shot at getting the glitter to stick to the tape.

I like dazzling diamonds from Stampin Up! because you can still clearly see the designs on your paper and it adds such a lovely shimmer!

Once done, I used some wet glue to add a bit of sparkle to the unicorn’s horn and some random spots on the body.

The full sentiment says “I hope your day is Magical”, I cut it in half and added to the inside with a bit more of the Digi design paper I printed out.

Supplies: 5 x 7 card
  • Card base is from a pre-folded pack I bought
  • Cardstock from Stampin Up!
  • Dazzling Diamonds from Stampin Up!
  • Digi design paper from We R Three digi set Party Celebration
  • Sentiment from the current prize pack Magical Sparkle

SheepSki Designs Challenge: Wings

I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do, and that enables you to laugh at life's realities.
Dr. Seuss

Hi there!

Today starts a new monthly challenge on the SheepSki Designs Challenge Blog and this month our challenge theme is Wings!

For this challenge, I am using Griff - image no 171which you can find it HERE in the shop

I did some digital piecework on the body so I could use a some digi paper from Touched by a Butterfly. After the image was printed and dry, I used alcohol markers on the wings, tail, hooves, talons, beak and around the eyes.
I added a bit of green around the eyes for a pop of color which can also be picked up in the digi paper I used. I then touched up with some glitter glue for an irridescent look.

Supplies
  • Image printed on Stampin Up! Whisper White Card Stock
  • Alcohol Markers (Copics & ProMarkers)
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio (base), Stampin Up & Bazzill

Let's meet under the Mistletoe ...

Because we need Christmas we had better understand what it is and what it isn't. Gifts, holly, mistletoe, and red-nosed reindeer are fun as traditions, but they are not what Christmas is really all about. Christmas pertains to that glorious moment when the Son of our Father joined his divinity to our imperfect humanity. - Hugh W. Pinnock
