With Sympathy ...

All say, "How hard it is that we have to die" — a strange complaint to come from the mouths of people who have had to live. ~Mark Twain

Good morning!
I usually keep a handful of Sympathy cards on hand because it seems the sad news comes in waves. I made these to replace the ones I had to send out.

I used a layout from Call me Crafty Al, but given that these are sympathy cards I decided to just use all white card stock and add minimal color.

It’s hard to tell in the photos but I changed to layout of the Tufted embossing folder with half of the cards having portrait emboss and the other half having a landscape emboss.

  • Supplies (Mini Slimline)
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio
  • Dies from Spellbinders (Classic Ovals, small and Scalloped Ovals, Large)
  • Dies from Honeybee Stamps (Coneflowers)
  • Embossing folders from Stampin Up! (Subtle, Tufted and Layered Leaves)
  • Ink from Stampin Up! and Versafine Claire
  • Layout from Call me Crafty Al of Cards #SUYSSept2022
  • Sentiment from Stampin Up! (Close to a Memory)

Doggo in the window ...

...he is so very happy to be alive that he feels he simply must wag his joyful little tail... so that all people may know of his complete contentment... ~W. Dayton Wegefarth (1885–1973), "The True Story of 'Bum,'" 1915

Good morning!

New Outlawz Sunday Song & Rhyme Challenge located HERE has started. This challenge is sponosored by Beccy's Place and will run for 2 weeks, ending on November 12th.

Our song this fortnight is:

(How Much Is) That Doggie in the Window?
Song by Patti Page

How much is that doggie in the window?
The one with the waggly tail
How much is that doggie in the window?
I do hope that doggies for sale
I must take a trip to California
And leave my poor sweetheart alone
If he has a dog, he won't be lonesome
And the doggie will have a good home

How much is that doggie in the window?
The one with the waggly tail
How much is that doggie in the window?
I do hope that doggies for sale
I read in the papers there are robbers
With flashlights that shine in the dark
My love needs a doggie to protect him
And scare them away with one bark
I don't want a bunny or a kitty
I don't want a parrot that talks
I don't want a bowl of little fishies
He can't take a goldfish for a walk

How much is that doggie in the window?
The one with the waggly tail

How much is that doggie in the window?
I do hope that doggies for sale

Who's there???

We see then that the bat is a very wonderful creature, one of Nature's triumphs and masterpieces... ~W. H. Hudson, "Bats," The Book of a Naturalist, 1919

Good morning!
This morning I am sharing a card I made for the new Sunday Song & Rhyme Challenge which just started. You can find the challenge HERE

Our poem this fortnight was picked by Susan Murphy

Antigonish [I met a man who wasn't there] HUGHES MEARNS
Yesterday, upon the stair,
I met a man who wasn't there
He wasn't there again today
I wish, I wish he'd go away...
When I came home last night at three
The man was waiting there for me
But when I looked around the hall
I couldn't see him there at all!
Go away, go away, don't you come back anymore!
Go away, go away, and please don't slam the door... (slam!)
Last night I saw upon the stair
A little man who wasn't there
He wasn't there again today
Oh, how I wish he'd go away...

Our sponsor this challenge is Oddball Art with a $10.00 prize.

I always love using her images because she has so many fun ones to pick from! For this fun slimline card I am using an adorable image of a bat dressed up like a ghostie as my card was inspired by the lines I met a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today I wish, I wish he'd go away... Made me think of ghosties and what better way to "go away" than use wings

I colored his wings black, then added a bit of texture by tamping alcohol over them to fade out a few spots them went back over with some canvas paint and a star stencil.

Supplies, Slimline card

Celebrating ...

Perhaps the best Yuletide decoration is being wreathed in smiles. ~1800 Quotes, Quips, and Squibs, E. C. McKenzie, 1972

Good morning,
I finally went through a box of old Christmas cards I had from last Christmas as well as some a friend gave and proceeded to repurpose into new Christmas cards.

I had planned to take pictures of the cards before I start dismantling them but totally spaced so I have no before pictures. I also didn’t keep great track of what I used on all the cards I made so it could be hit or miss there!

One of my favorite Christmas cards from last year. Love to see it given another chance to bring a smile!

Supplies
Cardstock from The Paper Studio (Base)
Glimmer paper from Neenah

Let us adore him ...

As long as we know in our hearts what Christmas ought to be, then Christmas is. ~Eric Sevareid (1912–1992)

Vintage Angel ...

Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love! ~Hamilton Wright Mabie, "Christmas Eve," 1885

This is a wonderful vintage Christmas card! Not that I don’t love and appreciate the art of modern-day Christmas cards, but I think the old vintage one just seems to convey a whole different level of Holiday feelings… Just me, I guess …

Anyway …

This card was actually one was among items that belonged to my grandmother that I found when cleaning out my moms’ house. I actually found a whole stack of vintage all occasion cards. I’m just trying to figure out what I want to do with them, but this was the only Christmas card I saw and it was a used one, so it got made over.

Not a lot going on with this one. I just let the wonderful image speak for itself! It wasn’t quite long enough for a full size slimline; I just trimmed at the bottom and covered the space with the banner sentiment and added some sequins. What you can’t pick up in the photo is that the a touch of gold glitter on her wings, the ornament and the stars around her. More bling would have been overwhelming.

Supplies
Cardstock from Stampin Up!
Sentiment from Inkahootz!
Sequins from my stash
Versafine Claire ink

Poinsettia Pretty ...

Christmas is a guest that always comes a month before arriving. ~20,000 Quips & Quotes by Evan Esar, 1968 [And now it's two or three! —tg]

The original card was already a slimline but too large to work well as a mini and not long enough to work out as a full size so I just figured out the best place to cut the piece and then covered the gap with the glitter paper.

Crash your Stash: Chip board

After all the shattering discoveries of science and conclusions of philosophy, mankind has still to live with dignity amid hostile nature, and in the presence of an unknowable power, and mankind can only succeed in this tremendous feat by the exercise of faith and of that mutual goodwill which is based in sincerity and charity. ~Arnold Bennett (1867–1931)

Good morning!
Today we re-start Crash your Stash on our new blog home located HERE! The challenges will run through September 14th so come play along.

Our sponsor this month is Alex Serbia Designs with a $10.00 prize to her etsy shop!

The challenge for this month is to use chip board.

For my slim line card I used a fun floral image called Happy flowers.

The leaves are cut from some chipboard sheets that I have had forever. They already have a layer of card stock on them but I never think of using them ... until now.

I cut two sets of leaves using a Sizzix bigz die (Love these dies as they cut through practically anything). I then sponged one of the sets to darken the leaves for contrast.

Supplies for slimline card
  • Sponsor image Happy Flowers printed on Hammermill Color Copy
  • Banner punch from Stampin Up!
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio (Base)
  • Chipboard for leaves, stash
  • Die from Sizzix (Leaves)
  • Ink from Stampin Up! & Tsukineko
  • ProMarkers
  • Sentiment from Unity Stamps

Flattery will get you somewhere ...

Flattery is to conversation what the kiss is to lovemaking: of the least value, but valued the most. ~"Poor Richard Junior's Philosophy," The Saturday Evening Post, 1906, George Horace Lorimer, editor

Good morning!
Here I am to share a set of cards I made using a layout from Call my Crafty Al! I believe this one is called a mini slimline and it was so quick and easy to make! This particular uses 6 x 6 sheets of design paper and makes 6 cards.

The design paper I used only had one side printed but double side design paper gives you more design choices when making your cards.

Another great thing about this size card is that you use a basic letter size envelope (3-5/6" x 6-1/2") so no purchasing or making specialty envelopes. Unless, of course, you want too.

Supplies: Mini slimline 6.25 x 3.25
  • Cardstock from The Paper Studio (Base)
  • Design Paper from American Craft
  • Die from Stampin Up! (Floral Flourishes)
  • Rhinestones from my Stash
  • Sentiment from Close to My Heart (Tickled Pink)
  • Sketch from Call me Crafty Al Sheet load of cards, #SUYSapr2022, #showusyoursheetload

First mini slimlines ...

...the only possible good in the universe is happiness. The time to be happy is now. The place to be happy is here. The way to be happy is to try and make somebody else so. ~Robert G. Ingersoll, 1888

Good morning!
Today I am sharing a set of cards I made using a Sheetload of cards layout from Call me Crafty Al. I love her layouts as it really encourages me to use all that design paper I have hanging around. They are also great for when I go to crops as I can gather up everything I will need based on her supply list … then I’m not hauling extra stuff just because.

This particular set is the first set of mini slimlines I've ever made. Very cute and compact!

Supplies: Mini Slimline, 3.25 x 6.25
  • Cardstock from Stampin Up!
  • Design paper from FDC (Wildflower)
  • Dies from Sizzix (Classic Circles)
  • Scrappers floss from Karen Foster

Five Sweetest Words ...

Five of the sweetest words in the English language begin with H, which is only a breath — Heart, Hope, Home, Happiness, and Heaven. Heart is a hope-place, and home is a heart-place; and that man sadly mistaketh, who would exchange the happiness of home for anything less than heaven. ~The Youth's Companion, 1853
