Hugs for you

Cabbie says, KAYA!

As guilty as I am after not uploading entries the past few months due to heavy domestic duties, here I am-- trying to cope up as much as I can in a marathon. Anyway, I created this simple layout using one of my favorite papers-- the passport line of Making Memories. I also decided to use a BW pic taken during the field trip of my 2 sons and would you believe who took this picture? My 5 year old boy!!! Sometimes, a child can be as innocent as he is as he presses the shutter-- devoid of hand movements and doubt of how he would be able to do it.

And he was able to take a good pic indeed and that's why I am scrapping it with worthiness. Much as I would prefer to tear the papers by hand rather than cut them with scissors-- there are rules to abide here. Thanks Marix for the wonderful challenge, I did get the chance to use some edgers!!!

Journaling:
Aedan and mom during their field trip.
hidden journaling:
It was a fun day with you both... though it was drizzling a bit, I really had a great time from the bus to the tour itself. Lunch was a challenge because we have to consume the food inside the bus to save time. What an exciting trip to boast! 'Till the next one, my dears.

Materials used:
MM passport papers, metal clips and embellishments; Inque botique felt; Autumn leaves stamp and buttons; Bazzill chipboard alphas; MM tiny alphas; chalbox ink; ranger distress ink; stampin up puncher

Techniques used:

Meaning of Life

Cabbie says, KAYA!

Life has many challenges and the most difficult ones are not only curved into one ball but I think they are all interrelated. And so i decided on making a mini brag-accordion book to compile them into one whole challenge in my life...the meaning of life for me.

The Heart symbolizes strength and love. It is because of love that we learn to sacrifice.

Journaling:

Sacrificing for my kids is the most difficult challenge I have to endure. This entails my time to them and leaving my career life. Until now, I still could not accept not working and just staying at home. I know God will lead the way for me.

The Heart is a symbol of endurance, passion, sacrifice only a mother could give to her family.

Aedan's vision made me realize that he needed me more than anything. He has to bear so much but we have to understand.

cardstock sticker- fill in the blanks: Cabbie always wanted to have a small family. Well, she got what she wanted! With 4 superactive kids, her hands are full!

Thanks: for giving aedan a chance with his vision; staying at home is a big sacrifice; letting go of one's career.

To My Kids, ages 9,5,4,3, to be read when mom finally goes back to work

Cabbie says, KAYA!

A mother's sentiment about going back to work will ache her heart. I have been a certified bum, a stay at home (real stay at HOME ) for 5 years after resigning from the medical world. It has been an incomplete path for me knowing that i should have continued my career. People say this is a waste of opportunity and I often agree with them but when I see the kids with only maids to look after them, I just couldn't swallow my conscience. I know this is imbalance because we have to work to live and we cannot always depend on others for survival or for the future. My mind wants to go back but my body just could not move, call me lazy, call me overprotective or anything but it's really so hard to see them with no good supervision. Maybe in the coming months, I will decide well. May God guide my mind and my conscience. May He bring me courage and the determination to face this adjustment.

journaling:

Dear kids,

Right now, as you open this tag, Mom made the big decision to work again. I can't always depend on others and so this hard decision of going back again. On my part, this is torture because of the big adjustment we are going to face. I feel so helpless knowing that nobody would be there to look after your needs, your daily school works etc. But I am doing this for you all and for your sake. I know i have to sacrifice and this is so hard for me. I have been with you during your younger years and I think the time has come wherein we all have to make something out for our future. I am not going to live forever you know and so I cannot stay this way. Whatever things I am going to miss doing I utter my sincere apology. Whatever stuffs I am going to miss like school orientations or programs, I whisper my sorries. Please remember that this is for your good and advantage. I really have qualms of going back but there is no choice. Be good boys always. Mom loves you all very much!

Hayden

Cabbie says, KAYA!

i decided to scrap Mr. Darth Vader ( hayden christensen) because i find his face so innocent and childlike. Makes me want to watch Star Wars over and over again.

3 wishes

CABBIE says, KAYA!

Making layouts about oneself is the most intimidating thing in scrapbooking, well, that is to my opinion. we are more reserved, cautious and self-conscious when we scrap about ourselves. that's why when this challenge came up, i have to look for pics of myself ( which i seldom take shots of-- well most of us naman) and i have to develop it asap in black and white! it is also so personal to allow others to see your personal wishes but for some reasons, there is this sense of hope when we share our wishes to other people! i decided to use this picture because this was taken last year in a temple in zamboanga city. i love the well-pond i decided to pose there and feel as if i am in a stagnant wishing well.. wishing and wishing... hopefully!

Journaling:

1. good health and good life to my family.
2. to be able to drive my kids to school.
3. to try to go back to hospital training.

Materials used:

basic grey mellow collection; basic grey rub ons; daisy ds cardstock sticker; chatterbox alpha transparent sticker; stickles; prima journal card; sepia accents

Garden of Aedan

Cabbie says KAYA!

my favorite color in scrapbooking have always been centered with the greens and oranges. but when i saw the mcdo nuggets my niece has been eating, the box color and the "stamp-alike" design on the box attracted me so i decided to make it as an inspiration despite the fact that the topics are really way different.
journaling:

Garden #1 : i plant my seeds of PLAY to keep me strong and active.

Garden #2 : i plant my seeds of FOOD to keep me fit and healthy.

Garden #3 : i plant my seeds of HAPPINESS to always give me a sense of fulfillment.

Love yourself

CABBIE says, KAYA!

I was inspired by Bjay's "Love yourself" layout in commemoration of breast cancer awareness this October. I used her title but with a photo of myself, i think that we as women of the new decade should be aware of how and what breast cancer is and how early detection can make a difference for us.

i incorporated some patterns of the haliotis specie (abalone) as part of my doodling. well, nothing significant about it. i just want to divert and explore possibilities instead of using flowers. the eyes-like design on the middle part if you look closely, would suggest awareness ( i had written the word aware all over those eyes-like patterns).

the symbol of the breast awareness ribbon takes a strong place here. it symbolizes what my layout is all about.

Journaling:

breast cancer can affect anyone...it doesn't choose... it doesn't care
let the world be aware that this condition seeks those who doesn't care...

Materials used:

dcwv cardstocks
lyra watercolor pencils
crayola and whispers markers
zig sketch black pen

Pumpkin Seed

CABBIE says, KAYA!

i made this layout because as i was watching my eldest son peeling off the shell of the pumpkin seed, the scene became interesting for me. His expression made me smile and to take a shot without him looking at me made the whole ambience even more exciting. So after having a hard time doing the shell-peeling, he finally got to eat the pumpkin seed in the end.
Journaling:

curiosity, willful, determined,

he succeeded in the end... well, after awhile.

Of Angels and Babies

CABBIE says KAYA!

i think this is more of a collage art than an ephemera where you put collectibles like old tickets and charms. i prefer to do this since angels are often associated with babies and i love the face of those dearly creatures! aetom is the focus of the layout because of his curly hair and since the babies' pictures in the layout all have curly hairs, i just thought of having him as the center angel...

life's little treasure

Cabbie says, KAYA!

i have 4 kids but you might notice why it is always Aetom (my 3rd son) on my layouts, it's because he loves to pose! with the 3, you still have to lure them...anyway, this layout was taken on the summer of 2007. our treasures are our children, no matter how hard it is to take care of them, there is always a feeling of satisfaction at the end of the day.

The Will of the Boy

Cabbie says, KAYA!

After having undergone weeks of scrapping block, I came up with something not in my line. I am not so good with black pattern papers but the challenge of having to scrap something like this gives me sheer pleasure and the force to explore other styles, too. I dont know, but I think challenges are like these...explorations and surprises. This is a picture of my third son Aetom trying to concentrate on something he wanted to do.

Journaling Reads:

The will of the boy is stronger than that of a man. The will of the boy surpasses any emotion. It is the determination within the boy that creates a mysterious force and that force I believe is why the will of the boy could never be compared with that of an adult.

Materials Used:

Rouge de Garance PPS; Basic Grey and Autumn Leaves PPS; foam stamps from MM glittered with white glitters; stickers from Creative Imagination; Colorbox white ink

Techniques Used:

Glitters were sprinkled over diamond glaze and blotted with white ink. Diamond glaze on flowers and leaves. Right lower leaves painted with green MM acrylic and glazed again to alleviate the color of the white leaves into green. Borders were inked with Colorbox white to give a dreamy look on the overall layout.

About ME:

I'm Nathalie Jane Lopez, aka Cabbie in the scrapbooking world. I have 4 boys and am a stay at home mom for 4 years already after having to resign from my training due to family obligation. I love to read books aside from doing crafts. Scrapbooking in real sense came about a year ago and from then on, life was not the same anymore. Scrapbooking made me realize the value of friendship too and that I think is the most important! I love to do minibooks and I love to alter stuff, too! Musical Notes

Cabbie says, KAYA!

The piano has always been my passion long before scrapbooking penetrated my system. I was taught the basics of piano when I was 7 years old and ever since, my love for this musical instrument became a source of inspiration and a sort of relaxation for me. Whenever I play a tune, I feel so relieved and soothed. This piano, sadly, is in my hometown and I can only play this when I go home. This Schubert brand piano was brought to our abode during my 3rd grade and it became my best friend. It also became the essence of style in our house. The love for music inspires us to feed our emotion with the seed of integrity. It makes a person in control of his life with balance. Music and passion make us whole and help us in our journey called life.

Journaling:
The piano is the soul of my emotion. I feel so relaxed whenever I play a tune...

Materials/Techniques Used:
Rhonna Farrer digital valentine kit (doodle flower accents); Festival kit (by Shabby Princess); Veronica Ponce's overlay (Romance kit); Scriptina fonts; created in Adobe Photoshop CS2. This is my first ever digital scrapbook layout.

About ME:
I am known as Cabbie in the scrapbooking world but my real name is Nathalie Jane Lim-Lopez. I am a stay at home mom to four boys since year 2002. Aside from scrapbooking, I also have a passion for books. I am a physician by profession but now, my family is my obligation. I have always loved scrapbooking ever since high school using different materials like fabrics and wrappers. Last May 2006, I discovered that there are stuff in scrapbooking which are way beautiful and addictive, so from then on, life was never the same again with scrapbooking. Aside from this hobby, I also gain new friends and that made scrapbooking even more interesting. My style ranges from vintage to colorblocking. I also love to experiment with colors especially oranges and greens. I love to do minibooks and anything small, some altered projects. (You can view my other projects and layouts at www.cabbiejanescrapper.blogspot.com.)
