Growing Girl

Beth says, KAYA!

I almost gave up on this challenge because I couldn't think of an inspiration for a layout. Yesterday, while having lunch at the Food Center of SM Fairview, I had all the chance to observe my surroundings as I was by myself. And I saw this poster of Greenwich's new pizza flavor right in front of me...

Materials used:
CS (maroon, orange, green), acid free white construction paper, flowers (Imaginisce – Fleur de Nile, Rekindled Moments, Prima Flower of the Month – October), Brads (All About Scrapbooking, Queen & Co., Making Memories), Image Tree Brush Letters Lower ABC, Colorbox inkpad (Bronze, Orange), acrylic paint (MyArt bright green, Making Memories celery, Semco bright white), Making Memories Specialty Glaze – Glitter, Pebeo Touch Volume Aniseed, Faber Castell Multimark

About ME:
I’ve had a purely retail professional experience of more than 20 years before I stopped working March of 2006. So far, I have not considered going back to work as I’m enjoying my new role as stay-at-home wife to Raffy and mom to Erika (9). I graduated from UP Diliman with a degree in BS Industrial Engineering. I discovered about scrapbooking only through the internet. I used to be involved in cross stitching and candlemaking before I learned about this craft. I began collecting scrapbooking supplies and tools late 2006 but only started making layouts early this year. I used to wonder why scrappers would still subscribe to expensive scrapbooking magazines when there are a lot of materials in the web. I found the answer to this question after I bought my first magazine, the Top 10 issue of CK. I also enjoy shopping for patterned papers but would rather look at them than use them. Scrapbooking relaxes me. It also complements my love for taking photos of everything.

Life is a Ball

Lee says, KAYA!

As soon as I saw this Fort Bonifacio ad in the newspaper, I knew I had to lift it. I was excited to use circles in my layout as I usually just use squares and rectangles. Thanks to Simply Scrappy's acrylic templates, this was a breeze to make.

Materials Used:
CS - DCWV; Diecut - Sizzix; Paint - Making Memories; Buttons - unknown. Tool - Circle templates

About ME:
Married 10 years to a visual artist, with three children. Slowly gaining confidence in scrapbooking especially after survived the Scrappin Moms' Idol challenge. I hope I survive the finals unscathed, too. I like digital scrapbooking because it's quick and easy and free, but I still prefer traditional scrapbooking for the texture, colors and dimension.

Wacky in Pink

I had the Moschino ad for ages. I didn't delete it cause I just love the colors (shades of pink). Good thing I have my niece's photos in my hard drive.

Attracted to Geeks

Julie says, KAYA!

This month, we are teaching the kids about the artist, M.C. Escher. To prepare for the classes, a friend and I went over his Tessalations, which we will use to teach the kids. But as I wandered off to see some of his early works, I was attracted to one of his 1920 drawings, that has inspired me to do an LO. Well, I realize that the 2 men in my life are big Escher fans. The “Escher work” used to be my son Ian’s favorite thing to do when he was still at Montessori school – he did Escher work for weeks! I also recall that I was introduced to Escher when I first met my husband 19 years ago - that he was wearing a T shirt with Escher’s “reptile” print. Geeks!!

Wild West 1920 – M.C. Escher
Maurits Cornelis Escher (1898-1972) is one of the world's most famous graphic artists. His art is enjoyed by millions of people all over the world, as can be seen on the many web sites on the internet. He is most famous for his so-called impossible structures, such as Ascending and Descending, Relativity, his Transformation Prints, such as Metamorphosis I, Metamorphosis II and Metamorphosis III, Sky & Water I or Reptiles (www.mcescher.com).

Materials and Techniques Used:
Black cardstock painted with white acrylic paint; patterned paper, cut out and arranged in ascending order. Pink rhinestones as simple embellishment. Silver Creative Memories gel pen for journaling.

About Me:
Full time Mom to Ian and Sara Jade; wife to the loving, funny and handsome Jeff Philippine-born, living with my family in the US for almost 2 decades. Volunteer Art and Reading teacher in my kids’ classrooms. When not involved with kids, I work from home as President of my own HR and Knowledge Management International Consulting firm, and as hands-on partner of www.bookoto.com. Scrapbooking Cardmaking, Photography, Suzuki Music (piano and violin), and Interior Design (only of my own home) and cooking are great interests of mine. I just discovered that doodling and face painting are fun to do with kids while traveling.

Halloween in Cypress San Jose

Ella says KAYA!

Finally... after hibernating for almost a month.... I was able to create a 12x12 LO. I got an inspiration last week but didn't used it due to lack of time. I am happy with it because I love all the colors in it....black,white and RED.

Pulau Dayang Malaysia

Marix says KAYA!

I did an LO a week after the challenge was posted but I didn't like how it turned out. Just yesterday as I was scouring my messy closet for clothes to iron,I stumbled into this shirt and ideas started coming in. Oh yeah I wasn't able to iron my clothes for this week, I guess I have to do it on a daily basis *lol* but I did finish this LO instead!

About ME:Hi! I'm Marix, single and currently working as a Systems Analyst in Singapore. I've been scrapbooking since highschool but never knew such a term ever existed. Back then I've been using magazines to cut out titles and images and used the magnetic albums which sadly are all not acid free. I only discovered the term scrapbooking and acid free in 2004 and have been doing it since then. I scraplift, use sketches and find inspiration through advertisements. I'm a traditional scrapper and learning to do digital. I consider myself as a free style scrapper who loves embellishments and texture in a layout. You can visit me at http://scrappalific.blogspot.com/ and also please visit http://scrappersatsg.blogspot.com/ to see the LOs of our fellow scrappers based here in sg. Thanks!

Marian says, KAYA!

There were so many inspirations to choose from but this was the one with pictures to match. I was even able to use/alter the journalling.

Journaling:
We all went to Manila Memorial Park to remember your Lolo Alex. It was the first time you had the wide-open space to run around. You enjoyed it so much and refused to let any of us hold your hand. You were so confident and sure of yourself and it shows in the pictures.

There is so much to learn and discover so I hope you grab life and immerse yourself in adventure. I hope you continue to have confidence and believe in yourself.

Mama, STOP

Marissa says, KAYA!

I fell in love with this McDo paper bag and I've been saving it since the Kaya 7 announcement was made.

Journaling:
Whenever I start nagging, preaching, or complaining, my daughter always says, "Mama...STOP stressing out on all the little things"; or sometimes, "Mama, STOP! Don't sweat the small stuff!"

Supplies:
BG: Margo by K-Ology
Font: Virgin,Times New Roman & Vladimir Script
Lrg Scrolls: Jen Reed-Heart&Soul flourish
Dragonfly: Gigi/SF Whimsical Garden
Scroll on Hand: Lively Cubic Doodle
Butterfly: McDonald paper bag
Design scraplifted from McDonald's paper bag

Techniques:
My daughter reluctantly posed for this picture. Her facial expression was just perfect for the LO. She had her hand outstretched in the STOP sign. I copied her hand, pasted it on top and enlarged it. Then I poured red paint from the bucket to color it. It was so fortunate that the color didn't bleed through the entire hand, thus you can see some of the creases, especially on the fingers. I can tell that it is her palm, alright! I just added the fonts and the swirls...and that's just about it.

About ME:
The nag, the preacher, the trouble-maker... hay buhay!

stuff i love

Christine says, KAYA!

I've been waiting for a challenge just like this to happen, my LO just took so long in the making as I had quite a number of commitments to attend to this month. However, since the things on my TO DO list just somehow never get any lesser in number and with the deadline for this challenge drawing ever closer, I decided to just set aside some time already! I've had this ad copy in my hard drive for more than a year now and I am glad I was finally able to lift inspiration from it! Not so much inspiration as ad-lifting, though! HAHA!!! Hope that's allowed, Nita :) I've been trying to rack my brain for the source of this ad, but I can't quite place it anymore, sorry. I'm also glad I finally got to scrap these photos I took one day, many moons ago, when I went a bit crazy and had so much time in my hands, I just lined up some of the stuff I love and snapped away with my camera!

Journaling:

About ME:
Married, with 2 kids - DD 7 and DS 4, part-time lecturer on restaurant operations. I have been scrapping on and off since 1984 using non-archival safe products (because I thought the acid-free stuff around that time looked cheesy, haha). I converted to the "other side" in 2006 when I saw gorgeous acid-free papers and other supplies. I've also dabbled in other crafts such as cross-stitching and candle-making. Celebrate Love

Khei says, KAYA!

As I was thinking about my Sweet Inspiration for Kaya 7, I came across my son’s RBW flashcards that I used to develop his visual activity when he was a baby. The colors caught my curiosity and attention. Why did babies see only these colors when they are just starting to take notice of their surroundings? For me, the colors also complement each other and they stand out. It’s also very versatile. In fashion, you can use these colors for glamour or for ‘punks’. So here’s my interpretation of the Red, Black, White color scheme.

Journaling:
Another year has gone by since I fell in love with you. Another year of being so true. This has been the best year of all other years and it’s been six years and we’re still here. We’ve been through many ups and downs but we remained strong and made it through the odds. Love kept us together. I only pray that God may grant me more years to love you, cherish you and serve you. I love you so much.

Materials:
Sterling Scrapbooking paper; Papemelroti Craft Cuts; All About Scrapbooking ribbon, brads, foam flowers; Lux Ther’s a Rub rub-on; Heidi Grace Punchboards (tag); MRLS trim; Others: thread, beads; Font: Shelldon

Techniques:
I hand sew the black vine. Added white transparent and black beads since I’m using a plain red cardstock.

About ME:
I am Katrina but my friends call me Khei. I am 22 years old, mother to 3 year old Benedict Andrei. I started scrapbooking 3 years ago but I only scrapbook full time last June when I met Joanne Yap and introduced me to the SE. I love scrapbooking because it’s my de-stresser and it makes me remember good memories. I can challenge myself to be creative. Feel free to visit my blog: www.scrappykhei.blogspot.com.

Reminising Childhood

Joy says KAYA!

I'm having a hard time to pick my sweet inspiration for this month challenge. I keep on searching the internet to find an inspiration to scraplift then at the same time I was also finding new Nintendo DS game at amazon.com when I saw the front cover of this game. I said to myself, I know this is hard to scraplift but I will try my best to do it. I was 100% inspired to do this because I enjoy playing TETRIS and I'm a GAMER.

Journaling: Erwin was so happy to see Spongebob and Patrick. He jumped up at the stage and asks me to take him a picture. I don’t know why he likes mascots; maybe he missed being a kid again!

Materials Used: 4 Fonts: Impact, Galant, CG Omega, Quiant, Spongebob and Patrick Image

Technique Used: Used eyedropper to copy the respective colors. Do 5-6 colors of papers. Grid my working area so that I can layout the bricks. Bevel the bricks. Brush the violet background with light lilac to have a dotted effect. Double Matt the photo.

About Me:
I'm Joyleen Dianne Co Lim, 30 years old, a wife to a VERY supportive hubby, Erwin. I've been scrapbooking since 2002 but I stop then came back last 2006. Currently, I'm addictive to DIGITAL but still I'm trying to do the traditional.
Scrapbooking gives me passion and relaxation specially after a stressful day.Seeing my working area helps me relieve the discomfort that I feel. It helps me to show how I can be creative and artistic. Challenging because I can strive hard to produce a better outcome, learn from others to help me improve my work. Being with fellow friends is so fun. We chat, scrap and shop together. It helps me realize that I'm not all alone in this hobby. Lastly, my dear hubby supports this expensive hobby, he understands what I'm doing and is always amazed at every layout that i do, he is my number 1 fan.
