Luv the Webcam

Roxannee says, KAYA!

'Thought it was a big problem joining this month because the entry should include me in the photo... ooops. Goodness knows how I get nervous when it becomes a requirement for Kaya. Quick thinking skills came to the rescue- I browsed the Photo Booth...and voila! I got to choose 3 vain looking pictures (wink). I decided to do a digital entry this time - no cutting, glue and printing involved... yes.

Journaling: I love the webcam! I can be myself and express my feelings.

My ROCK

Roxannee says, KAYA!

I'm so flattered to be this month's challenger. I love alphabets and I thought that we have to relax a little bit on scrapping photographs of ourselves & our loved ones. Let's make it a little bit different this time. Let's get to know you more with the help of your "ThiNgS". I have to confess that I did not expect to be challenged myself! (di ba, Ms.Lee?)Now here's my take:

This is my important thing at the moment. A little notebook that hubby gave me last year. Left lying around for quite a while until one day in October 2008, when I felt so powerless and useless because problems & trials kept on coming, hubby said something that never left my mind. "You cannot stop the rain from falling. You can only cover yourself from getting wet." I thought that was wonderful so I wrote it down. The rest is history. A notebook from a special person who said words that started something even more special- a whole new thing to read each day. I still need it, I'm still recovering.

Journaling:
This tiny notebook from Ron is a great source of strength. It has remarkable quotes, affirmations and prayers that help keep me going each day. It's my rock. 30 June 2009.

Materials used:
DCWV cardstock (Nana's Nursery and Green Stack); assorted alphabets from Craft Market, crate paper and unknown; small Prima flowers, unknown white flower, clock embellishment from craft fair, scrap patterned papers; photo turners, silver brads, assorted buttons, DMC white thread, MM Journal stamp, Brilliance ink in black & sky blue; Kaiser clear stamp (Seals), Inque boutique flourish stamp, paper clip, foam adhesive, dragonfly embellishment, white & green cardstock; stabilo pen, date stamp.

Techniques used:
stamping, stitching of buttons, dry embossing with Cuttlebug Folder (flourishes), precision cutting

About ME:

Hi I'm Roxannee. I'm inviting you to join this month's Kaya! challenge. I am still getting there - growing towards a stronger and more resilient individual. You can visit my blog here .

US

Roxannee says, KAYA!

From the day that Yoyin posted her layout, I said to myself "hindi ako sasali!"... but there was this nagging urge in my head to take up the challenge. It's Kaya's 2nd Anniversary after all, and there are more reasons to join than not. So there, I gave in. na-Kaya ko pala.

About the picture- Going to the beach (any time of the year) to eat Fish and Chips for dinner is part of our family routine. There is no excuse not to go there. It is free, relaxing and it creates more family memories each time. I like the way we left our footwear on the sand to have a run near the shore. It is a family picture in it's own right.

Quiet Arvos

Roxannee says, KAYA!

I've been using some odd things for stamping...though I have a few stamps in my stash, I still feel that using other bits and pieces as stamp gives a project it's uniqueness. For this challenge, I played around with a corrugated cardboard.

Journalling:
Who said quiet arvos are boring? I took some fun shots of us while waiting for Kuya's home time from school. I love these moments... just you and I...
17 May 2007

Materials used:
dark blue textured card stock, Grant pp, corrugated card board, white paint, Prima flowers Tea & Silk collection, pearl stickers, buttons, embroidery floss, Hero Arts acrylic ticket stamps, Paper craft acrylic flower stamp, acetate, Tsukineko Brilliance Inks, Versa Mark ink, Versa Magic chalk ink, blue metal clip, Paper craft chipboard, clear embossing powder, Kaiser paint in antique white,
kindy Glitz, flower brads, Stabilo pen, journalling pad printed from Shabby Princess.

Techniques used:
paper tearing, stamping with corrugated card board and acrylic stamps, heat embossing, inking, stamp resist.

The process:
I painted the corrugated card board with white paint and stamped it on the card stock.
For the title, I painted raw chipboard with antique white paint. Once dried, I stamped flourishes on the chipboard using Versa Mark Ink. Then I heat embossed the stamped flourishes. I dabbed brilliance ink to give it colour. You will notice that the heat embossed areas resisted the ink.
The acetate flowers are made using acrylic stamps and black ink. Then I used brads for the centre. The ticket stubs are made with left over patterned paper and acrylic stamps.

About ME:
Hi I'm Roxannee and I love stamping to bits! I hope I gave this technique some justice with this layout.

Please... Not Yet...

Roxannee says, KAYA!

I did not realize that I have done some hybrid scrapping before. Alby, thanks for this challenge.

One of the joys of motherhood is when your child just does some crazy things that will wipe away your whinges and problems for the day...This one in particular, I know all of you are familiar with is something that I will cherish. It is a symbol of a child's innocence and carefree personality. I forgot to type {priceless} on the photo so I just used a rub on... I edited the photo using iPhoto and layered masking technique on GIMP, emphasizing the saliwang sandals.

Journaling:
Your quirkiness just puts me in stitches all the time. This is so typically you- funny yet moody, almost always doing things upside down. You make our home happy nd joyful. The laughter you bring just always remind me that life is indeed wonderful. I don't mind the noisy footsteps that I call "pitter pat" when you come along the hallway. It brings music to my ear. Someday, putting on your sandals this way will change. You'll figure out that it's the other way around. Well now, I like the way you do it. Don't change it yet for now 'coz I really enjoy it. Not yet, don't grow up yet my baby.
Love, Mommy

i'm so ThaNKFuL

Roxannee says, KAYA!

I am not really a fan of Valentine's Day but then, this month's topic is about expressing your feelings to your loved ones through a song and my latest favourite add on to a lay out is stitching! Ethan's sweetness, Ashton's kisses and Ron's cuddles just complete me as a person. I am truly blessed to have such affectionate, loving and caring boys in my life. Their LoVe is an everyday gift and for that I am so thankful. For the song I felt that Jim Brickman and Martina McBride's The Gift is just spot on.

I Heart My Garden

Roxannee says, KAYA!

I had a hard time looking for pictures to scrap...so I took photographs of my plants.

Journaling :
I've always thought that I don't have a GREEN thumb. With the kind of climate here in Australia, it is not very easy to grow plants. But it's only a matter of CHOICE what to have in the garden...And if I LOVE what I'm doing, nothing is impossible.

I learned to LOVE succulents...they are very HARDY and fun to grow. Roses are needy, they are like us women- moody, fragile, but irresistible and beautiful.

missy and DREAM

Roxannee says, KAYA!

missy

Distressing is one of my favourite techniques. Almost every layout or card I make has some paper teared, inked or sanded. To be honest, I was way out of my comfort zone whilst making this project- I used pink (because the dress was pink), I tried vintage style, I had to make a poem about my feelings with wearing a dress and the hardest bit- scrapped my baby photo! Thanks Marj for this challenge, I had fun.

Journaling :

Explore

Roxannee says, KAYA!

I love this picture of Ethan so much...at the same time it makes me melt inside because it reminds me that one day, he'll be able to leave our nest and explore the world. A cautious boy that he is, I was glad that he decided to try climbing up trees. I remember him saying " Look Mom, I can swing in this tree! I'm a big boy now!"

I used the bird as a symbol for exploring the world, clock because time flies and one day he'll soon be on his own,& the star as his guide in whatever he does. It is not only the first time I made a layout with this picture. I reckon it's one of those shots that you can extract a lot of memories. And I thought that Winnie the Pooh's words to Christopher Robin was spot on for the way I feel with it.

To Ethan, 7, and Ashton, 15 months, to be read on your 1st Night Out Together

Roxanee says, KAYA!

I tried to be not serious with this layout - I mean no tears involved otherwise that would put me off and stop me from doing a layout. So with Cheeky as the title, I wrote the letter in a cheeky way. Well, that really comes from my heart. I am actually nervous just thinking about this event or milestone or whatever term is suitable. And maybe people would think it's a bit unorthodox, well looking at the future, chances are, my kids will really go on a night out together - just by themselves (my hubby and I had planned their firsts to be accompanied by us.) I don't know if this letter will stop them from going (hope not), but then whose got a Mom who made a layout and wrote a letter ages ago for a first night out together?! The truth is, this is my way to express the fear a Mom would feel when her kids are about to put their social life to the next level. I cross my fingers. Sigh.

Sub-Title:
Mommy's Cheeky Little Men

Journaling:

Hidden letter reads:
Mommy's (now these are hidden) gorgeous boys: Ok, ok! Let me put this STRAIGHT- I didn't write this to be a drama queen for the moment...I'm just going to wish the 2 of you LUCK on your 1st NIGHT OUT TOGETHER!! How exciting! Ethan-you're the BIG BRO, I know I don't have to remind u about looking after ASHTON. Just take it Easy, ok? And you young one- yes you ASHTON, don't over indulge! There are more night outs to come. Just make this a memorable one...then we'll scrapbook it together...hahahaha. Try not to get too drunk, respect the AMBER ALE (that is beer folks). Look after yourselves ok? Otherwise this will be your 1st and last. (I am slightly serious). You know the rules don't you? It's a shame Dad & I are not joining you. We are not keen on stalking you this time. LOL. And lastly, stay away from dangerous girls (and Guys too)...don't leave your drink-keep an eye on it! Ok 'nuff said. Have fun! We trust you a lot! Love & kisses, Mommy. BE SAFE.
P.S. I would love to hear about it tomorrow! LOL! wink
P.S. #2 Be nice to the taxi driver. Give him the tip-a fair dinkum one.
P.S. #3 Kindly put this letter back where you got it from.

Simple Yet Rocks

Roxannee says, KAYA!

I believe that the things people have reflect their personality. The first time I saw this Swatch on the shop window...oh dear, I fell in love instantly!!! The design is so "me". I like the simplicity of it - when you actually stare at it you'll realise that there's is more to it so it rocks...

With this project, every element just says something about me. I like the rustic design of the wood, the monochromatic theme ( my clothes are more like that), stitches, buttons...the flower stamp. The letters and the big flower are hand cut.

Should I add that when I was taking a picture of the watch, my hubby thought that I'd sell it on ebay?! 'will never sell this- to me, it is priceless...

Roxannee says, KAYA!

It took me a while to have an idea for this challenge....yes, I've got pictures but which? I got papers but what to do with them? Drawing? Maybe not ....my drawing skills are a bit rusty... Then I stumbled upon this picture of nanay and me when she came for a visit, and I reckon flowers would suit the two of us (can't put much flowers on my sons' LO's- finally I made a girly one, yes!!!!)...so here it is...

New Life, New Love

Roxannee says, KAYA!

This photo was taken on the first day of the first month of 2001. Incidentally, Ethan was one day old at the time! His Dad held him in the car on our way home from the hospital, we fondly called him Neo as it means "new". I covered my title and journalling with vellum to create a different effect...I used foam adhesives under the brads to lift up and accentuate the "picket fence". I enjoyed making this layout!

Sub title: ~ one day old 01.01.2001~

Journaling (on the side):
Our Neo Isn't it amazing how someone like you so tiny, so fragile, so delicate reminds us of the love that we share. It's only now that you're small we could hold you in our hands but always remember that our hearts will hold you forever. Always, Daddy and Mommy.

(below):
Daddy's HANDS might be too BIG to hold you right now; but his HEART is much, much BIGGER loving you from the very start.

Materials Used:
Flavia scrapbook paper for the base and 2nd layer, Cardstock (metallic orange), Craft Stuff paper in stone and metallics (bronze and pearl), brass and black brads, plain vellum paper, Bostik Glu-Tac, Scotch acid free glue, foam adhesives from Spotlight, Fiskars eyelets, eyelet setter, satin brown string. Fonts - Aquiline for the title and subtitle, Antique type for the
journal.

-eyelet setting
-brads setting

About ME:
Hi I am Roxannee, 30 a Mom of 2 gorgeous boys Ethan (6) and Ashton (7 months) and wife to a wonderful guy named Ronald (oh I am sooooo in love)... I had been planning on scrapbooking since my first born was still a bub but couldn't get the hang of it...so when I had baby number 2, as the photos keep on piling up and clogging my hard drive, I decided to really get on with the cropping! I realized that scrapping
is not just preserving and creating memories but could be therapy too, I feel relaxed and comforted by it at the end of a hectic day. I am also crazy about cross stich, cake decorating, knitting, beading, card making and photography. Could you imagine the craft stuff I have
in the cupboard? It drives my hubby nuts!
