Now I’m uber addicted to it and I’m dying to learn new techniques and I’m very glad I got into this group of very creative and talented ladies where I get inspirations and new ideas. Thanks guys!

My Prince

Janis says, KAYA!

I'm soo bad at deadlines - - the truth is I thought I won't be joining this challenge for I'm not a fan of using fabrics on my layouts. But then, will it be so bad to try something new? So, here's another simple layout from me - - the photo is bad for it was taken 30 minutes before the 12 midnight deadline.

Materials used:
DCWV cardstock, ribbons, felt cloth, mesh cloth, Tim Holtz Ticket, AAS satin flower, buttons, DMC thread, Cuttelbug diecuts (foam heart, chipboard netting), Scenic Route chipboard crown, AC Thickers (Jewelry Box), Dymo tape, Sakura Pens.

About ME:
I am the reluctant scrapper.

Your Smile is Unforgettable

Cookie says, KAYA!

This is why i love joining Kaya Challenges--- its making you do something that you usually don't do on your pages. The first time I've read about the challenge, napa-ngee ako - because i don't use fabric on my pages. Then one night, I remembered this very cute piece of cloth that Nina gave me. Seeing this piece of cloth just gave me an idea what to scrap and to join this Kaya challenge.

I really love candid shots. This picture of Harvey was taken during our recent vacation to our province. This pic is one of my faves.

Here's my page...

Thank you Nina for this super cute fabric!!!

Dumaguete

Alby says, KAYA!

Using fabrics on a layout is a big challenge for me. I remember in 2007, it was this challenge that booted me out of the Scrappin' Moms' Idol. So when I saw the first challenge for the month, I thought it would be really tough. The first hurdle was choosing which fabric to use. Fortunately, I still have the May 2008 kit of Studio Azul which has fabric swatches in it. Next, what to do? I keep telling myself that all I need to do is just use the fabric like I would any patterned paper. So I sprayed the fabric with some starch spray to stiffen it, then I ironed it and cut it like a paper - with a metal ruler and cutter. Then it's time to bring out the sewing machine. Well, here's the result!

Here's a closer look at the stitched details and the embellishments (my first time to use these crystals!!!).

The photos were taken during our recent trip to Dumaguete and we actually fell in love with the city.

LUCKY

Ems says, KAYA!

I remembered doing a similar challenge during Scrappinmoms’ 1st ever Scrap Idol. I thought I won’t make it and would have difficulty in this challenge as I had during the Idol season but I’m quite happy with the outcome and quite proud of this since I did this for only 2 hours last
night (after a whole day’s travel from Quezon, mind you).

So glad also to have made this lay-out (thanks scrapbookshawaii) honoring 2 of the most important women in my life (my mom and my mom-in-law). I’m so blessed to have good relationship with the both of them (and vise versa with hubby as well). We’re the lucky ones, as they say!

Roxannee says, KAYA!

From the day that Yoyin posted her layout, I said to myself "hindi ako sasali!"... but there was this nagging urge in my head to take up the challenge. It's Kaya's 2nd Anniversary after all, and there are more reasons to join than not. So there, I gave in. na-Kaya ko pala.

About the picture- Going to the beach (any time of the year) to eat Fish and Chips for dinner is part of our family routine. There is no excuse not to go there. It is free, relaxing and it creates more family memories each time. I like the way we left our footwear on the sand to have a run near the shore. It is a family picture in it's own right.

Gifts

Timi says, KAYA!

My entry for this month's challenge is entitled GIFTS (only my second time in Kaya!). It showcases the gifts I received from the LB Scrapaholics during the celebration of my 38th Birthday last November 2008 at Helga's place. About ME:
Married to Danny for 14 years and blessed with two wonderful kids, Jigs (14) and Dannah (12). A College Professor by profession, I have been teaching Crop Science at UP Los Banos College of Agriculture for 16 years now. I'm a member of the LB Scrapaholics since 2005. It was in the year 2000 when I completed my very first scrapbook. It was a gift to my husband in celebration of his 30th Birthday, our 11th Valentine's Day together and our 5th Wedding Anniversary. My next project was my son's preschool years completed in 2002. I'm fond of joining challenges because it helps me improve my craft. Challenges allow me to experiment and create designs I never thought I am capable of doing. I intend to continue with this hobby-turned-into a passion (or maybe obsession) even after my retirement years.

My job ate it, and Activist

Barbie says, KAYA!

Happy Anniversary to Kaya Challenge Blog!

I never thought I could make a page for this challenge, let alone two. But I had a particularly stressful week and I just HAD to scrap. What better to do than join the Challe
nge?

My first page was inspired by the Domo-kun collection my office seatmate kept by her pc. I was almost instantly unpopular that first week, when I caught myself saying "Oh, hey, cool, you have the 'God kills kittens monster'," before I realized that the most popular "God kills a kitten" mantra at the time was... unprofessional. She forgave me, thankfully, and became one of my staunchest friends, who w
eathered many a storm with me at work. This is for you, Kaybee!

Journaling:
I used to have a life, but my job ate it.

Materials:
Brown fabric from what used to be an eyeglass bag
Prima flowers for the hands
Brown ribbon (generic)
white and red cardstock (generic)
DCWV cardstock, Charteruse
MM Canvas letter stickers, Passport
Really Big Brads
Chalklets

Techniques:
Resist chalking, inking, paper piecing

The second page is something I thought I'd do as part of the album I'd always wanted to make - something about me and my work as an LGBT activist. The journaling is too raw, I think. Even had to cut out some stuff. It came out kinda pretty, though.

Journaling:
I've been a lesbian activist for 16 years. My advocacy began in high school, where teachers tried hard to punish the gay out of me. (Catholic school is not the best place to discover your sexuality.)

Freshman year in college saw me joining CLIC (Can't Live In The Closet) - but not really. I had to wait until I was 18 before I was allowed to join CLIC activities like seminars and discussion groups.

Today I am Reformist in my beliefs, trusting that education and discussion will lead to change. I am a founding member of Lesbian Advocates Philippines, and a member of its Execom. I was also part of the original editorial team of the most successful (so far) LGBT magazine in the country, and I have been part of almost every Pride March.

My activisim is very anti-violence against women (VAW) and youth-oriented.

Materials:
Canvass cloth, unprimed
MM foam stamps
acrylic paint, classic red
rainbow ribbon
Assorted paper flowers from BJay
DCVW Kraft cardstock
Prima journaling card
colored markers

Techniques:

Send in the Clown

Marix says, KAYA!

I did a couple of LOs using fabric a long time ago. Using fabric also means stitching for me but I've been lazy to sew on my pages which I used to enjoy. Thanks to Yoyin's fabric challenge my sewing machine is no longer a huge paper weight in my scrap area *LOL*

Happy 2nd year anniversary to Kaya!!! kudos to the mods and more power!

"Have Tea."

Sheryl says, Kaya!

Though at first I didn't think I can.

I had never worked with fabric/textile/ribbons/fibers only before. Personally, PPs are my saving grace and my comfort zone. But as with any challenge, it draws you out of your comfort zone and short of scrap-lifting Yoyin's sample LO, I managed to put together a completely hand-sewn page. I discovered a couple of fabric in my stash, a sheared(?) ribbon that looks like Maia's jumper and I simply imitated the pattern. I made the title look like a print of the jumper blouse.

Suffice it to say, this page is my favorite LO so far. Thank you, Yoyin! Kaya ko pala. :-)

And of course, Happy 2nd Anniversary Kaya Challenge! I hope to join more challenges than I did last year. More power!

Kaya 25 - The Anniversary Edition

KAYA! is celebrating it's second anniversary this month of May. And as such, we have alot in store for you.

For this month, we will have not one but two challenges. That means you all have two chances of winning. So get your stuff together and get ready for the first challenge.

Challenge No. 1 - FABRIC/TEXTILE ONLY

Guidelines:
1) No patterned paper allowed. For the purposes of this challenge, distressed cardstock like Basic Grey will be considered patterned paper.

2) Use plain-colored cardstock only for your base.

3) For journaling and titles, you may use any material except patterned paper.

4) Your layout must have a) fabric/textile AND b) ribbons, lace and/or fiber.

5) Any size/number of photos allowed; 12x12 or 8.5x11 traditional layouts.

6) Layout must be made specifically for Kaya 25.

8) You may submit as many layouts as you want but you will only be entered once in the drawing.

9) Deadline for submissions for this challenge is on May 15, 2009 at 11:59PM.

10) Random drawing will be on May 31, 2009. Since the anniversary comes only but once a year, everyone, even most recent winners, are eligible to win this generous RAK sponsored by Scrapbooks Hawaii. Thank you so much, Marisa.

And here is a lovely layout to get your mojo going created by one of Scrapbooks Hawaii's DT - Yoyin Mallig.

Materials Used:
