A Mini for Yan

Tin says KAYA!

I want to share a mini album I made for my daughter, Ienne, for her retreat . I usually don't use pre-made kits but this mini was a surprise, so I would often scrap secretly; what better way than use a kit and use other scraps I had on hand.

As part of the retreat the girls received Palanca letters, as my daughter was going through her letters she noticed two people didn't send her any note or letter at all. The culprit was yours truly and my younger sister whom she is close to. Then Ienne noticed two odd looking items that was not included in her box, the scroll from my sis and this CD tin from me :-) I'm not much of a mini-album person, actually this was my first! In the end it was all worth it, because Ienne enjoyed going through her mini.

Note: Please forgive the photos, baka ma vertigo kayo sa iba iba na position hehe we were taking photos in a cramped space (we blame the boxes we've been packing and are scattered all over the condo)

Journaling:
(the journaling below are the quotes I used in order, excluding the letter medyo private eh hehe)

- A daughter is a little girl who grows up to be a friend -- author, unknown

- I've seen fire i've seen rain, i've seen sunny days that I thought would never end.
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend, But I always thought that i'd see you again.
-- Fire & Rain, James Taylor

- A daughter is the happy memories of the past, the joyful moments of the present, and the hope and promise of the future -- author, unknown

- Who will see the beauty in your life, And who will be there to hear you when you call. who will see the madness in your life, And who will be there to catch you if you fall -- Fra Lippo Lippi

- A family is love, that's a family. They come in all different sizes and different kinds, but mines just right for me -- Barney

- And He said, "Cast your burdens upon me, those who are heavenly laden. Come to me, all of you who are tires of carrying heavy loads. For the yoke I will give you is easy and My burden is light, come to Me and I will give you rest"

- When you feel the world is tumblin' down on you, and you have no one that you can hold on to. Just face the rising sun, and you'll see hope, and there's no need to run. Lift up your hands to God, and He'll make you feel alright. -- Lift Up Your Hands

- Watching your daugher being collected by her date feels like handing over a million dollar Stradivarius to a gorilla -- Jim Bishop

Materials Used:
K & Co. CD mini album kit, Patterend Paper: K& Co., Scenic Route, Bazzils, etc.; Embellishments: Scrapworks, Fancy Pant, American Crafts ; Stamp: Hero Arts
** Please forgive me this is an incomplete list, I was never able to write down the materials I used. And unfortunately, I don't have Mia's super powers when it comes to scrapbook products LOL

Techniques Used:
I made this mini using small photos of Ienne through the years, I filled it with quotes that we both knew and ended it with a small pocket containing my letter to her; I also stamped, inked and ripped patterened paper.

About Me:
I just learned the 7B's from my daughter, Ienne.
For you ladies with daughters, pay attention:

The 7B's
Books Before Boys Because Boys make BaBies

Yes, I learned this from my 18 year old. If I had known this . . . well then, things would have ended differently wouldn't it?

But I can't imagine life without my alter-ego and conscience, Ienne :-) I can only hope that SHE'll take the 7B's to heart LOL

Time to Fly

Tin says KAYA!

I am officially a college mom. I can't really explain it. Sometimes i feel anxious for my DD and there are times when i'm scared out of my wits, but I guess it's what moms do . . . worry, even endlessly. Just as much I would love to always have my children look up to me, there comes a time when we just have to stand back and let go and let them be their own heroes. Easier said than done *wink* but i'm getting there :-)

Journalling:
It was 2 o'clock in the afternoon when we were all scurrying around the condo helping you prepare for your high school graduation that evening. As I was passing by your room I caught a glimpse of your white toga hanging outside your door. I just had to pause and take a photo, an image held in time where memories of your primary and high school days came rushing back to me.

I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE IT! WE DID IT BABY GIRL! This is the REAL DEAL. Soon you'll be dealing with new classmates, hard core professors, boys, keeping count of your cuts, boys, exposure trips, internships, did I mention boys? You get the picture :-) Back in ICA you were safe behind walls . . . in CSB the world is literally at your reach. Perhaps these are just new fears for your dear ol' mumerz, but I TRUST & KNOW you to always do the right thing (including BOYS, *ahem*).

NOW is your time to discover yourself and the world . . . now is your time to FLY!

(And will you succeed ? . . . 98 3/4 percent, guaranteeed! -- Dr. Seuss --)

A&K

Tin says KAYA!

My love life is hardly perfect and highly NOT recommended LOL I came home last night from watching Sex in the City, the movie; don't worry this isn't a spoiler for all your Carrie fans :-)
I 've been contemplating of an entry to my Kaya challenge, when Carries assistant said it all . . . just don't give up on LOVE. It sums up what I believe in when pain and tears were too much to bear, when you think there is just no one for you.

Nina's challenge also included a symbol in our LO's, so I chose a dragonfly. . .
"Dragonflies symbolize going past self-created illusions that limit our growing and changing. Dragonflies are a symbol of the sense of self that comes with maturity."

I've stopped painting myself roses but just see the world and love now with honesty. Change brings perhaps new fears and challenges but it is also the dawn of something good. I used to say, there's no way now but UP :-)

Journalling:

"Who will see the beauty in your life,
And who will be there to hear you when you call;
Who will see the madness in your life,
And who will be there to catch you when you fall."
Fra Lippo Lippi "Beauty & Madness"

Who WILL see the beauty and madness of my life? . . . after asking myself, my angel finally came. Almost five years down the line he has seen me at my best and my worst. Admittedly I can't help but fear the future, sometimes scaring myself more than I should.
Where are we headed?
What's waiting for us along the way?
And if we'll ever arrive to god knows where.
I have never been so sure of the unsure. But no matter how scared I might be, I just have to look at the future in the eye . . . I have to remember to steady myself and yell with all my might . . . BRING IT ON!

Techniques: layering papers, stamping, accents with a gold leaf pen, distressed effect with rub-ons

About Me:
A single mom who is just lucky to have someone to take the journey with, taking it a step at a time. It's simple really, what ever love (or life for that matter) gives you, just don't give a crap and keep on chugging :-)

(he said) Hey!! Jambalaya

Tin says Kaya!

Mia knew this from the start, who I would be scrapping as my ultimate crush (or one of them LOL) for this months challenge . . . I'm not sure if everyone is familiar with this gorgeous crooner, just to hear his name is enough to make me swoon!

No, he's NOT like Michael Buble, don't get me wrong i like Mr. Buble just fine but long before he came along was Harry Connick, Jr. He's an actor, composer, singer, etc. etc. it was because of this hunk o' man (hehe) that I am now a fan of the classics, of jazz and true blue rythm and blues and not the hippity hop kind mind you :-)

And so, an ode to my all-time idol I give you Hey! Jambalaya . . . (which incidentally is the title of a song. Harry made his own version of this old New Orleans classic with a twist of swing!)

Journalling:

(Front Page)
Circa 1990, the Arsenio Hall Show . . . a gorgeous New Orleans native was conducting a big band. He had a voice reminiscent of ol' blue eyes with a dash of rythm and blues . . . it was love at first sight!

(Back Page)
Because of Harry . . .
I am now a big fan of Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong and a whole new genre I never even knew!
Because of Harry . . .
old classics had a new flavor, a mix of the blues, New Orleans, dixie and jazz . . . much like Gumbo! A whole stewpot of goodness!
Because of Harry . . .
Art bought tickets to his FIRST concert in Manila . . . despite that we didn't catch the first part of the show the rest of the evening was divine.

About Me:
I've been scrapping since 2000 but only seriously since 2007, within that span of time i've been looking for something new and different. I'm glad this challenge came around, I finally got to scrap something other than my family or me :-)

Hey, Lollipop!

Tin says KAYA!

My job entails I sit in front of my laptop creating graphics for our footwear, eye strain isn't the half of it. So I take a respite from my digital and virtual world by getting my hands dirty and sticky with glue and I always kept it that way. But as much as I hate to admit it, I love to scrap digitally and I do it in such a timely manner too! Now if I can only scrap traditionally just as fast.
I totally adore my niece, Ocean Lily, and this photo of her from the Picture Company is just too adorable to keep to myself. She's a sweet tooth just like everyone else in the family and she totally loves candy, so what else do we bribe her with so we can take photos of her? hehe

Journalling:
This has got to be one of my favorite pictures of you. The kind lady at The Picture Company was waving around a lollipop to make you smile, and you would shout out "CANDEEEE!".
When she finally gave it to you there no way you were letting it go!!!
- Ocean Lily, Sept. 2007 -

Materials:
Digital Kit: Spring Time Feelings by Danielle Young
Fonts: Sparkly from Fontdiner.Com, FG Elin and Shabby Princess, Smarshmallows Alphas

Techniques Used:
Used Adobe Photoshop CS2 to -->
1) mask and crop the papers and create scallops
2) adjusted the opacity of the flower embellys
3) added dimension via drop shadows
4) cropped parts of the ribbon so they appeared to be "threaded" through the paper (at least I like to think it looks threaded hehe)
5) beveled the exclamation points

About Me:
That's DD, 17 and yours truly. Love this photo, it shows how we normally are with each other. Some say we can be mistaken for sisters, even the way we talk and argue I guess LOL. But life would be less colorful without this crazy girl, and whenever she does something silly all she would say is "the apple doesn't fall from the tree!" It doesn't does it? :-)

3 Wishes . . . to Wish to be Remarkable

Tin says KAYA!

Sheryl's challenge got me thinking and helped me realize what I would like to achieve for 2008. One of which is since i've missed so much Kaya LO's that one of my resolutions is to make up for it :-) hehe

Journalling:

There is nothing as common-place as to WISH to be REMARKABLE
--- William Shakespeare

#1: FOCUS: on my kids, to consistently read to Josh, to make sure Ienne is ready for college (boys and all! *gulp*!), focus on my Asanas, and despite of my conked knee to find a sport and stick to it, to finish my online photography course, reinstate family game night and to be organized.

#2: DISCOVER: re-learn old loves like playing the piano, guitar and the drums again, driving AGAIN despite the traffic, explore Bohol and Vietnam, to learn pottery, to ride rapids, to find joy in the simplest and even mundane things.

#3: ENJOY: 2007 seemed so fleeting, I guess because i'm always rushing. This year I have to remember to just stop and enjoy the moment.

Paper -- WRM Promenade-Dreams, Hambly Chic Circles-Pink, Rusty Pickle Tag Set, Creative Imaginations-Blue Floral
Alphas -- Amer

About Me:
I'm a single mom of DD 17 and DS 7, the three of us have a weird age gap but then again funny how things work out (i'm 34, do the math :-).

I love the new year, just as much as I love mondays or the day after, it's always a chance to start all over again, to do something good and worthwhile.

Here's to 2008 my dear PSers :-) And speaking of wishes, I hope this year brings an abundance of creativity and endless friendships!

Just Another Day

Tin says KAYA!

I have to admit, I was totally blown away with this challenge. I had no idea how dependent I was with my rub ons, my bling, etc. It was one thing to use only cardstock, but to use nothing else except the basics! *whew* You really kept me on my toes super Donna, kaya dapat lang sagipin mo na ako hehehe

This LO is an ode to my one and only daughter, how we spend our time together, our petty fights, what we do . . . it may be just another day, but being able to record what we did in our every day "days" will surely bring back memories.

Journalling:
JUST TODAY
Sunday, October 28, 2007
- late for church again!
- had to know endlessly at your door to hurry up!
- had a yummy lunch at Powerplant . . . via Kaya Express with Josh and Tito Arthur.
- pestered me for enrolling you at the local driving school
- we finally got you those curls
- bugged me for another take at the SAT's
- you gave Josh a wedgie! And he tattled all the same.
- had a quick chat with Tita Kitchie
- shopping
- spent some mom and daughter time
- argued hot to fix your hair . . . hairband or not!
- endless kuwento
- laughed at my choice (and having decided not to purchase . . .) my Florline (?) Maria jacket at Zara
- gotta love those ALDO chose! 2 pairs each :-)
- argued about packing and clothes (ok, more ME)
- had another fun dinner with the family!

Materials Used:
Paper --> Bazzils white, aqua and light aqua
Pens --> Micron- black, Zig Millenium-black, Staedler triplus fineliner, Tsukineo Impress Dual Marker-black

Techniques Used:
lots and lots of doodles and handwriting!

About Me:

A single mom of 2, who are often my favorite scrapbook subjects. They have no choice but to contend with my camera up their faces, my constant bugging with possible journalling questions and my incessant time spent at my scrap table. Hence, I have situated my scrap area at our den to make sure we see and spend time with each other . . . or else they would wonder what this stranger is doing cutting paper in their house!

Built for Comfort

Tins says KAYA!

I hardly use more than 3 patterened papers at a time, so this was quite a challenge for me. The photo was taken by my eldest daughter, of Josh just happily playing away on his PSP. They both enjoy staying at their lola's house, after all, it's like Christmas everyday hehe

Journaling:
Staying at lola Julie's house in Dasma has always been a real treat for you.
Sitting in her favorite couch, PSP in hand and all the chips and chocolates
you can eat . . . totally built for comfort!!!

Materials Used:
K& Co., Scenic Route Capetown Main Street & Somerset Ave., Dreamstreet Hopes, American Crafts Bookshelf, Chatterbox Chateau Plaid, Liquid Pearls White Opal, Autumn Leaved Mod stickers, Thickers foam Eggnog, Thickers felt Pajamas, red felt, American Crafts felt arrows, Aqualip Black and Uniball Signo White

Techniques Used:
Layering of papers and handcutting, use of puffy paint

About Me:
Single mom to two kids that hopefully didn't take after my craziness :-) I love to scrap, i love to scrap SHOP, and i love to shop for pretty much anything. Scrapping is my respite from the daily grind, my usual scrapping hours are either before the kids arrive from school and when they're fast asleep. And they both know, mom's scrap supplies are not toys . . . moms scrap supplies are not used for school projects . . . mom's scrap supplies? Nooooo touchy! :-)

I love Hello Kitty!

Tin says KAYA!

Before anything, sorry sa delay. After the very mind boggling challenges for SM Idol, Kaya is a breather for me :-) I didn't know I could block my layouts so well hehe.

Anyway, no one would think that I'm a Hello Kitty fan. The love affair began as a child and it hasn't stopped since then. My only wish, is to have a Hello Kitty party with a Hello Kitty cake! Hey, I can dream, can't I?

Journaling:
As a child, I had every excuse to use any Hello Kitty item I can get my hands on. It was at Gift Gate where the love affair began.

At 34, things are not so different. Although now I choose more practical things like my --- HK calculator for my bills, HK pens for writing, HK shirts to wear, HK bags for my things, HelloKitty.Com for my email and yes . ..my HK toaster for my toast. The latter was a gift, I swear!

Just can't get enough of this cool Kitty!

Materials:
Paper: Bazzils black, aqua and white, Love Elsie Roxie Quilt and Red felt
Embellies: Scenic Route Chipboard, Making Memories Sweets, Ki Alphabet Soup, American Crafts Playhouse Felt Arrows, AEIOU Studio Iron On Patch
Rubons: Sassafrass Lass Cotton Candy, SEI, Lasting Impressions Scrappy Rubs
Stickers: Love Elsi Roxie Stickers, EK Precious Finds Adhesive Gems
Ephemera: Hello Kitty note pads, tag, prize tag, tin cover and plastic star

Techniques:
I didn't use a lot of techniques really, just plenty of blocking. I used the felt ribbon, rub-on and sticker to create unity and continuity between the pink and white blocks.

About ME:
Scrapping, as I discovered, is a great cure when you're homebound, stuck with a horrible cough that can be mistaken for barking, a cold that can sniff up a ship and when cabin fever is driving you up the wall. I've sanitized my hands while scrapping, coughed away from it and sprayed my layouts with Lysol people, not to worry :-) you don't have to stay 50 feet away from my album in the next EB hehe. Hayaan niyo, ibibilad ko na din sa araw LOL.

Don't let this innocent face fool you, it can launch a hundred expressions, made hearts break, make you laugh, cry and even make you silly. Oh yeah, and Josh is in it too :-)

Where is . . .

Tin says, KAYA!

My family is often tired of the long wait for me whenever we arrive at the airport of our destination, all because of my passport picture. I swear, the picture is worse in person thank goodness this is virtual!

Journaling:
WHERE IS...Kristine?..." Asks the immigration officer at the Changi Airport in Singapore. "Uuum, I'M Kristine." I say carefully. "Ooohhhh ..." he says quietly as he reaches for his inkpad.

CHINA, March 2005:
"Where is Kristine?" Asks the Chinese immigration officer, his eyes passing me as if I didn't belong standing infront of his desk. It couldn't have been the language barrier but the immigration officer was taking unusually long staring at my passport.
Finally I couldn't help myself "Doesn't look like me?" I ask, "No." he says directly and approves my entry to Shanghai.

HONGKONG, December 2006:
"Where is Kristine?" Asks the immigration officer at the Hongkong International Airport. I raise my hand and smile.
"WHOOAAAA!!!" sayd the immigration officer as he kept on looking at my passport and back at me. He gives me a sly smile and once again, I hear the familiar soft thud of the immigration stamp.

50 pounds and 6 years ago, I had never felt better (or looked better!) as I do now ... but I couldn't say the same about my passport picture. Each time I enter a country, its airport always welcomed me with three words ... "Where is Kristine?"

Wherever it may be it's always the same question and the same confused expression of its immigration officers. I find it amusing but at the same time i'm torn if I should be flattered or fear I could be detained due to falsification of documents!

About ME:
I've proven that the only thing that stays the same, is change. We've all gone through our own experiences of sadness and pain. But more so, is the joy and peace at the end of every trial. I welcome every change in my life, the tears, the laughter, yes even the weight gain (and loss!) and the constant movement in not just my life but others as well. Thank goodness I have the means to scrap these moments and seasons in my life :-) Thank you ladies for the constant inspiration!

"But if in your thoughts you must measure time into seasons, let each season encircle all the other seasons, And let today embrace the past with remembrance and the future with longing." --- Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet

Totally Dapper

Tin says, Kaya!

Before I begin, I would like to apologize for the delay being in the core team I forgot my deadline . . . whoops! My bad :-) I've been in a scrapping rut lately, wanting to do as little digital as possible (since that's all I do 24/7) I discovered that going back to digital actually perked up my creative mojo. My son, Joshua, is 6 years old and earlier this year he was asked to be a coin bearer for the first time!

Journaling:
When Tita Janet asked if you could be her coin bearer for her wedding, I immediately said “yes”! I think I was more excited than you. All too often weddings hold images of crying boys holding little pillows as they walked down the aisle with a parent in tow. Being a total stage mother (yes, shame on me!) we practised for weeks how to slowly walk with a pillow. The big day finally came and I totally underestimated you. Despite the fact that your collar and bow tie was a tad tight (”mommy, why are you choking me?!”) and that you began to get antsy waiting for your turn . . . you walked down the aisle totally composed and sat quitely throughout the whole ceremony. And as your name was being called during the introduction of the entourage, you entered the reception hall with both hands in your pocket and a big smile looking TOTALLY DAPPER!

Materials Used:
Software: Adobe Photoshop CS2
Digital Elements: Amy Teets: Pier 49 --- photo stamp, flourishPackScraps Series 1 --- crayon frame/ Michelle Underwood: Anxious --- paper black / Stacy Kluczny: All Over --- button silk, tack black, tack white / Autumn Leaves: Jerri-Summertime --- half circle red, Gina-Sweetie Pie --- tPin / Shabby Princess: Studio Chic--- scalloped border, stitched tags, Sweet Sprinkles --- black stapled ribbon
Font: Arial Narrow, Century Gothic, Ballpark, Eight Fifteen & Dymo Font Invers

Techniques Used:
Digital LO using masking, brushes, text paths and bevels

About ME:
Having finally succumbed to digital scrapping, it doesn't mean that I have totally ditched my traditional LO's. I still love the sticky glue, the fact that I can touch the three dimensional embellys and the creative process of choosing papers, colors and other elements. I'm just glad i've found another medium to scrap with, especially when i'm too lazy to bring all my scrap stuff. All hail the Adobe gods! And yes, I am not ashamed of posting my photo . . . Be forewarned.

(Magazine) JUNKIE

Tin says: KAYA!

I am a self-confessed magazine junkie, another "quirk" of mine. From yoga, to photography, computer arts, running, scrapbooking (of course!), stamping, food, computers, interior design, even Psychology Today, etc. It's all there. Spring cleaning every few months still doesn't help, because days later, I come home with bags of mags once more. My yaya just sighs in exasperation . . . ligpit na naman.

Journaling:

Yes, I acknowledge the fact that I am a JUNKIE . . . a magazine junkie. Growing up I drowned myself in LIFE (it was twice the size back then), BOP, Tiger Beat, MOD and Panorama. This list is much longer now and I have made it a fact that I will never have a permanent magazine rack. These glossy compilations are everywhere, the sofa, the bed, bathroom, kitchen counter, bags and even the car.

Subscribing internationally is torture and often times I can't wait so I end up buying it locally anyway. Passing up a news stand is like passing up a gooey chocolate cake.

I know I need help . . . But i'm on the road to recovery, after all the first step is
ACCEPTANCE ;-)

Materials Used:
Paper Pizzaz black cardstock, notebook paper, Brilliance ink, Ancient Page ink, white Uniball, blue Zig photo signatures, Nostalgique vintage buttons, Hero Arts stamp London R & Impressions, Making Memories font stamps

Technique: tearing, stamping

About ME:

I'm a single mom to a 16 year-old crazy teen and a 6 year-old equally kooky son. Being creative has always been in the family, we paint, sketch, do digital arts, make wedding cakes and doodle on our hands in our spare time. Originally a rubber stamper, I've been scrapbooking on and off since 2000 but have just began being a 100% certified scrapaholic since 2006. I work in our family business taking care of our advertising needs for our footwear, I am also often in front of the computer designing for our slippers. I guess that's why I would prefer to be a traditional scrapper and digital is kept to a minimum. My style varies depending on my mood, from clean lines to freestyle I always try to let myself do new things . It's either I'm adventurous or I just have a short attention span.
