The Queen and I

Bjay says, KAYA!

I use distressing sparingly, and is usually very comfortable with just the inking technique. Marj required at least two - I did three. Yee-haw!

Play Hard

Barbie says, KAYA!

Aaaack, barely made it! These challenges are truly challenging when the week's so hectic, though I have scrapped more than ever trying to find a good page to submit. :D

I used pictures from my family's trip last November 8. Bolinao doesn't offer much in the way of swimming spots, but it does have fantastic beaches, and the weather was right for endless volleyball games.

Journaling:
What do you get when you put four A-type personalities on a stretch of lonely beach with a volleyball and a net? All-out war!! Later, the game degenerated into a rousing game of touchball.

Q & A with a 6 year old

Chiqui says, Kaya!

I didn’t think I’ll be able to make a layout for this week’s challenge but I’m glad I did! Family

Lee says, KAYA!

I'm beginning to enjoy distressing a lot lately. I think inking and tearing are some of the easiest ways to add dimension and texture to a layout. Not too many tools and time required.

I've had this photo in a frame on top of the piano for years now. Kahlo always asks why she isn't in the photo so I think it's time to move it in a scrapbook and just keep the photo of us five on display. Even back in 2000, I wanted to make family portraits taken in professional photo studios an annual family tradition. For some reason or the other, it didn't take. But it's never too late to start anew, specially now that accessible photo studios abound in the malls.

Journaling:
Building a Memory...A young couple, a sweet boy and a cute little girl. Two children that can each be held and guided with our two hands. I am sure I thought this was the perfect family unit. Who knew that we'd have another wonderful addition barely two years later? But for now, let me savor this memory - one happy unit of four. Indeed, we are building one big happy FAMILY. 11/22/08 (Photo taken 2000)
Materials Used:
PPS - Pink Paislee, Basic Grey; Chipboards - K & Co.; Flower - Petaloo; Buttons - Fancy Pants; Paints - Making Memories, Lil Davis; Ink - Clearsnap, Ranger; Stamp - unknown; Metallic Rubons - Craf-T; Rubons - K & Co.; Pen - Sakura; Thread - DMC; Adhesives - Saunders, Glue Dots; Tools - paper crimper; Basic Grey Precision File Set; Distressing Tool - Heidi Swapp.

Procedures/Techniques Used:
I started to follow a sketch by Becky Fleck, but as I tried to fit the elements I had, the end result doesn't look like the sketch at all. I tore the edges of the PPS by hand and inked the sides with ink pad. One PPS I put through a paper crimper and sanded on top for texture. The chipboards I dabbed with metallic brown and white paint using my fingers (a technique I learned from Alby). I rubbed metallic gloss on the petals of the white flower and stamped swirls on it for texture. It was my first time to use the palette so am uncertain if I put it to good use. I then distressed the edges of the background paper and used my hands to roll some parts (something I picked up from Donna). I also wiped metallic paint on the edges.

About ME:
I would love to be able to scrap all day and all night, but since that's almost an impossibility given the various demands on my time, I am quite content that I am still able to come up with ONE finished each week. There's nothing like the feeling of satisfaction I get each time I finish an LO and to relieve that throughout the week, I don't put my LO in the album until I start a new LO. I always display it in my scrap room first and whenever I see it, I get that tingle of excitement and satisfaction again. So much so that I can't wait until I have enough free time to work on a new layout.

11th

Ems says, KAYA!

Thanks Marj for another exciting but manageable challenge! I planned and finished a different LO for Alexa only to find out that it should be with a visible journalling. So I made another one today, thanks to you, it pushed me to create another one so I can work on my backlog in Alexa's First Year's album. This is a double 8x11 page that records her 11th month.

Materials Used:
DCWV cardstock; Urban Lily, Kaiser Kraft, PC Rob & Bob, DCWV PPs; MM paint; colorbox ink; AL journalling stamp; lace.

About ME:
I'm Ems! Started scrapbooking the right way in 2003. Subject of my work was usually my daughter Gaby until the birth of my 2nd baby, Alexa, last Octobre 2007. Backlog keeps on piling up so I have to have a goal to have more LOs to slip into my blank albums. With only 4 (or 5?) pages to go to hit my target of 52 lay-outs for 2008, I'm getting there....

My Faves at 25

Diane says, KAYA!

Distressing is my fave technique right now. I love paper tearing and inking. I inked the edges of the LO with Tim Holtz distress ink and then I used the Heidi Swapp distresser to make it like an old paper. I also teared a circle shape to the pp and then crumpled it and then layered it to make a flower.

Thanks Marj for this challenge! This LO is another AAM page of mine. I am compiling pages for my AAM Album.

missy and DREAM

Roxannee says, KAYA!

missy

Distressing is one of my favourite techniques. Almost every layout or card I make has some paper teared, inked or sanded. To be honest, I was way out of my comfort zone whilst making this project- I used pink (because the dress was pink), I tried vintage style, I had to make a poem about my feelings with wearing a dress and the hardest bit- scrapped my baby photo! Thanks Marj for this challenge, I had fun.

So, I hurry in doing this layout to meet the deadline and to the bad timing the weather is also cloudy today so my shots for the layout is not that good.

Thankful

Joanne says, KAYA!

This has to be one of the fastest no brainer layout I have ever done! I just saw ORANGE and thought.. why dont I do FALL layout look,.. even if the photo isn't for that season specifically. In a way, it was sorta connected with the tree patterns on the papers --- since the theme of the layout was about family growing together....

Distressing is one of the techniques I am not so into, to be honest. And so to follow the specs of the week, I had ink all the edges of the photos, elements and accents using the Stazon ink. I am not tearer too of pps -- just too heartbreaking! So to do the actual tearing I had ruled a line using a craft knife with ruler and then used that as my guide to tear. To distress further I used ink and Krylon gold leaving pen for a border on the center of my layout. Lastly I mounted it on top of another pattterned paper for more emphasis.

Journaling:
Thankful for my family... grow together in LOVE. I will always be thankful that as you boys were growing up, Mom and Dad were always there for you. We saw all your milestones and seen your learn so many things. One day, you will all grow up but never forget the love we all share....how we are all connected with the bond and love we all have for one another.. Its what will keep us together - even if DISTANCE may separate us...

About ME:

I am Joanne Figueroa Yap, mother of 3 boys, Jacob, Jerome and Jorel. I am happily married to my loving hubby, Patrick. At present living in the land down under, Sydney Australia. I am a stay at home, 24/7 on call house manager of the Yap family household.

Back in Manila, I began Scrappin' Moms with my beautiful friends April, Mia, SL, Ria, Pia, Liza and Iris. My passion for scrapbooking has really brought me to places I never realised I would ever be at. I have met beautiful people through this hobby and they have all enriched my life immensely.

My layout creations are my way of preserving our precious memories and expressing my love for the people that I love. They call me the 'massacre queen' because I can never leave a pattterned paper unturned, it has to be cut with precision. This is what's common in my all my layouts, the 3d elements that I create myself. All these are my labor of love. It is my hope I can reactivate my scrapbooking social life and work here in Sydney again, one day when the kids are more adjusted here.

About Me

I like convenience in making layouts. Digital scrapbooking gives me that. I can make a lot in one sitting, not to mention that I have no storage problems and I can bring copies with me wherever I go to show off.

I love creating with my hands, thus I also make traditional layouts. Will anyone now tell me how to store these bulky pages?

Thanks for looking.
