It would be wrong to say that the people in Seattle who did this are "self-hating."

Seattle changes "Columbus Day" to "Indigenous Peoples Day.

They don't hate themselves, at all.

They hate you and me and the rest of normal America.

South Dakota Did this in about 1990 or 1991, I am not sure when. But they use the term Native American Day instead of Columbus Day.

In simple terms, there was a clash of civilizations several centuries ago that Europeans won rather decisively. I supposed the somewhat silly (but usually meaningless) junk going on today like "indigenous people's day" placates a very small part of the population that feels guilty about their ancestors winning that clash. Not to sound overly proud of the United States, but we are typically very generous to those wishing to merge into our vast melting pot and contribute their own culture's uniqueness to the larger whole. If you don't or can't merge, then we don't really give a damn about you. Seems fair and reasonable to me.
