PP504 CAS Back to School

Happy Sunday peeps!  Welcome to another Paper Players challenge with teacher Claire as our hostess:

Well, "back to school" means a lot of different things this year, doesn't it?  Thankfully, Cassidy's school has decided to offer real-time school and she will start in a couple of weeks, so I thought I'd make a card for her!  Remember, it's a Clean and Simple week, too!  So here we go:

I used the FMS sketch for this week:

and I pulled out last year's Check You Out for my images.  The Bubbles and Fizz DSP was the inspiration for my colors...I stamped the worm in Granny Apple Green, gave him a Poppy Parade tie, and he is sitting on books of Bermuda Bay, Daffodil Delight and Poppy Parade:

I stamped the greeting in Smoky Slate, and to personalize it a wee bit, I added her name on the bottom book!  On the inside, I stamped the owl and heart and left space so I can write an encouraging note!  She loves gray, so the card base is Basic Gray!

I hope you'll find time to play along with our challenge this week!  Even if you don't have family members returning to school, there are lots of ways you can incorporate elements of back-to-school into your clean and simple creation!  Be sure to check out what the DT created as well, over at the Paper Players blog!  Thanks for popping in today!

I had to give kudos for my nephew's church; they decided to hold a small VBS last week with a construction theme.  (Normally Cass attends as well, but it was only open to members.)  Jameson and Sawyer were IN THEIR ELEMENT!  Daddy is a contractor and they know all about tools, machinery, and equipment and how they work!  Check out these smiles:

Jameson will be starting kindergarten this year as well...maybe I should get busy and send him a card too!  Enjoy your day and be blessed!

Just Checking on You Owl Trio

Happy Saturday, peeps!  It's shaping up to be a nice weekend, although I don't think we could beat yesterday's temps of the mid-80s!  Woohoo, it was like summertime!  Dana and I went shopping for florals and it was HOT in those greenhouses!  Anyway, when I came home, after doing some planting, I did some stamping.....I remember I had one sheet of 12x12 paper with owls on it and thought it would make some cute cards for families in our church that we've been missing.  I paired it with the owl from Check You Out, so here we go:

These papers are so cool...they are heavy, and textured, and while the colors don't match SU colors exactly, I figured the kids wouldn't mind!  The first one just features an owl colored in some various colors and fussy-cut:

The second one uses both sides of the patterned paper, and I gave him some eye detail along with a stitched banner:

And finally, my last one also had a little stitching/scallop detail going on:

I also added some color to him by using a marker on specific areas before removing it from the Stamparatus...a handy little tool for sure!

And as I am posting this, I can hear not an owl, but a male Baltimore oriole in the woods behind me.  He has been singing his song for two days now.....constantly! Yesterday morning I went through the woods to my SIL's house and saw him in a tree, I think he was building a nest!  So he must be looking for a wife, LOL! He's quite elusive to see, but we did see him again in the afternoon, but he's too far away for pictures.  But he is beautiful and I am thrilled he's around!  Thanks for popping in today and enjoy your day!  Be blessed!

Just Checking On You

Happy Wednesday, peeps!  Hope you're doing well today!  I have a little encouragement card for a sweet young lady at our church.  We are participating in a prayer challenge, where all the adults are praying for school-age children.  My wee one happens to be the granddaughter of my high school trig teacher!  She is as sweet as can be and smart as a whip, too!  Anyway, I made this card for her and will write a few encouraging words inside to let her know I have been praying for her!  It uses Check You Out:

This card fulfills a few challenges too:  the Fab Friday colors and the Try Stampin On Tuesday sketch:

The colors threw me a little, but since there are several elements in the set that could be stamped in different colors, that's what I did...the owl is Cajun Craze, the books are all four colors, and I used the Pretty Peacock for the background:

I added a Mint Macaron border, diecut from the Seasonal Layers dies, and the hearts were cut from the retired Wood Words dies.  I even gave Mr Owl a little bow tie of Blackberry Bliss twine, and the twine at the bottom of the card is some Mint Macaron from a past Paper Pumpkin kit!

I am also entering this in the Festive Friday Inspo board:  I used blue (Pretty Peacock), orange (Cajun Craze), hearts and encouragement theme:

Thanks so much for popping in today!

This is what happens when your human mom just can't help covering everything in sight with something crocheted!

Enjoy your day and be blessed!

PP453 Back to School

Hi everyone!  It's time for another Paper Players sketch, and Claire is our hostess today!  If any of you know Claire, she used to be a teacher, so this is quite apropos for her as well as this time of the year!!  And I am willing to bet that her students LOVED her--she has the perfect personality to teach those little ones!

I was pretty excited about this challenge too, because it gave me a chance to break out my new set, Check You Out!  It's perfect for the challenge!  I paired it with some school-themed papers from a few years back:

I started with the sketch from Try Stampin On Tuesday:

My bottom mat was some computer paper I stamped with the Writing Notes stamp in Balmy Blue and diecut with a Stitched Shapes square; the other elements were simply stamped in primary colors and fussy-cut:

The sentiment was punched out with a circle punch and backed with a scalloped circle mat.  On the inside, I stamped a sentiment from Seaside Notions, which has a really nice variety, the heart from the Check You Out set, and a pencil from It Starts With Art, stamped in Crumb Cake and colored with SU markers:

Cassidy will be nine in a couple of weeks, and will start fourth grade at a new-to-her school closer to home, so I will not be getting her on and off the bus any longer.  Although it's sad for me, because I won't see her as much, I know it will be good for her.  So this will be for her on her first day school; she loves getting mail, and hopefully she'll enjoy opening it!

SO....what will you create for this challenge?  I hope you'll check out all the DT samples on the PP blog, or you can check them out here:

Then share yours with us too!  Thanks for popping in today!

Last week, Cassidy attended a small science camp at our library put on by Glaxo Smith Kline; I didn't get many pictures, but this particular experiment had the kids mushing up Rice Chex with water in a baggie (representing food in one's stomach):

Then putting it into a nylon stocking and squeezing it along the leg, watching what oozed out, (which represented the intestines and how your body gets its nutrients):

Her partner was a boy from karate, so they already knew each other....but it was interesting hearing all the comments, especially from the boys (as you can imagine!).  Next week she will be attending an animal science camp at the University of Delaware, so that should be fun as well!  Can't wait to hear what she has to say about that!  Enjoy your day and be blessed!
