Seize the Birthday with Texture

DSCF8723

Happy Friday, peeps!  The end of the week is finally here!  I was intrigued by the Seize the Birthday challenge this week:  Texture!

I had made this card a couple weeks ago for another challenge but ended up going in a different direction, so this was just sitting on my desk, lost and challenge-less…..but I think it fits for the STB just fine:

This is for my dad’s birthday; he loves to travel and goes to auctions and sales a lot, checking out old planes and plumb bobs and other sundry things!  The Alphabet Press embossing folder was used on the Smoky Slate card, and then I randomly stamped images from Artistic Outpost’s Route 66 stamp set in shades of Smoky Slate, Basic Gray and Stazon Black.  I also used SU’s retired Define Your Life and Timeless Type die-cut letters:

I finished it off with a sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes.

Cassidy and I took a walk couple of days ago to feed the horses and the donkey that live down the road.  She was quite upset because she said the donkey’s nose was running…and did I have a tissue?

Yep, you guessed it….she “blew” the donkey’s nose!!!  And he let her do it, too!  Enjoy your day!

ColourQ191

DSCF5264

Happy Tuesday, peeps!  Feels like Monday, or Sunday or some other day, to me!  Having a Monday holiday is fun but it sure messes up your internal clock!  Anyhoo, it’s time for the ColourQ challenge, and here is the fun inspiration Arielle has come up with for this week:

What a fun purse!  I had a bunch of ideas spinning around in my head!  In fact…see that turquoise typewriter on the front?  I HAVE ONE OF THOSE!!!  In fact, my sister Gail just sold one at her store, Charleston Fynd!!!  I was going to let her sell mine too but she encouraged me to find a ribbon for it and keep it….she said every kid that came into her store made a beeline for the typewriter!!!  Vintage is in!  So I went sort of literal for my “vintage” card too:

Oh, I had fun making this card although it took an inordinate amount of time!  I played with old images, new “old” images, new papers, dry embossing, heat embossing, and best of all….I was able to download a free “typewriter” font to make my typewriter key-style letters in MDS!  Woohoo!  I was excited that I could print them on a Real Red background in white, and then just punch out the letters!  And since the purse had so many random patterns, I used my own Paper Players sketch from this week’s challenge!!!

Anyone remember what that little doodad is?  Sure ya do!  (If you don’t, email me and I’ll tell you!)  I was also able to use a little diecut I’ve been saving from my friend Linda, on which I embossed a retired SU sentiment:

The birthday sentiments inside and out are also computer-generated!!!  I am saving this for one of my “vintage” friends!

Now…..what inspires you in this photo?  I hope you will play along with us over at the ColourQ blog and be sure to check out what the other designers made with these bold colors and retro graphics!  Can’t wait to see it!  And if you have any questions about anything I used here, please send me an email!  Don’t leave your question in the comment box because I can’t always answer it there!

Dana & friends went to the train musem near the Strasburg Railroad this weekend…..Cassidy did NOT want to smile for the camera!

Monkey Card#62

DSCF2012

Those creative girls over at A La Card Monkey have challenged us with a red, white & blue theme and sketch, so I thought I’d participate!  Here’s the sketch….

and here’s my card.  I chose to say “so long” to Define Your Life, pairing it with Have A Seat and the jumbo wheel Friendly Words:

I added a trimmed heart from I {Heart} Hearts, did some distressing, embellishing and embossing, and added a sweet sentiment inside:

ColourQ67 and FTL122

DSCF6132

Well, here we are, another Tuesday and another ColourQ!  It’s always exciting to me to see what Arielle comes up with each week.  This week’s inspiration is so cute, I can’t wait for Cassidy to be able to wear something like this!  Here you go:

cqc67Just look at that little bottom and that sweet fun tutu!  I don’t have a single bird stamp and I really was not in enough of a do-it-yourself creative mood to create one, so I just went with the colors and the Fall to Layout #122 to create my birthday card:

FTL122

CQC67_LeAnne

Everything is SU except for the Taken with Teal DP, which is from Graphics 45’s On the Boardwalk, the MS glitter on the star and the Kiwi bling.  I loved stamping on the vellum so that the colors of the papers show through:

And don’t you love those cute little pompoms?  I was worried about them sticking, but I ran a line of Tombow Multi-Adhesive along the edge of my DP and used a clothespin to anchor them on each end and it worked perfectly!

We would love to have you play along at the ColourQ…so stop on over; Arielle has added some new designers who are scrapbook-savvy, so there’s even more fun stuff to check out and be inspired by!  TFL!
