AYSI252 Dapper Dad's Day

Hi stampers!  Yay, it's Friday and the start of the weekend!  It's also the start of a new As You See It challenge with a masculine theme:

I saw a card recently (you can see it here) that had an interesting engineering facet to it and I wanted to try it out!  Here's what it looks like from the top....four panels that intersect, yet fold flat to create a standard-sized card:

I created mine a bit differently than she did; I had the basic idea in my head but needed some assistance from my brother the engineer!  He gave me the final push, I adapted the sizes to fit a standard envelope, and here we go!  Each panel was covered with some DSPs, and on the slightly larger panels I added some embellishments and stamping!

Here are some closeups:

The papers are all from the Original 6x6" pad by Authentique; the stamped images are from Guy Greetings, and I used various dies and some copper metallic cardstock from last year's holiday catalog too!  Since neither John nor I have any dads left, I'll have to see to whom I will send it!  Maybe my brother, LOL!  Hopefully, I'll make another one in this style and maybe post a tutorial!  And since this has lots of layers, I am entering it in the Always Fun Challenge too!

I hope you'll find some inspiration to create a masculine card this week...they're always a challenge for us stampers, aren't they?  Be sure to check out the As You See It blog to see what the DT created, then share yours with us too!  Thanks for popping by!  Enjoy your day and be blessed!

Always Fun with Basic Borders

Happy Friday, peeps!  Hope you have a fun weekend planned!  Sunday is Mother's Day and my sweet SIL has something nice planned for the mothers in his life, so I am looking forward to that!  He told me that I could bring John along too, LOL!  Anyway, I have a very CAS card today, and since it uses an old stamp and a new die, I am entering it at the Always Fun Challenge of new and old!  So here we go:

The old parts of my card are the sentiments and the swallow; they are all from different Paper Pumpkin kits from a couple of years ago.  The new part is that fabulous cloud-inspired border die--I just love this set!  It's in the new SU catalog and it's called Basic Borders.  After cutting out the clouds, I mounted it on a Balmy Blue card base, stamped, colored and fussy-cut my little bird and adhered it with a mini dimensional:

It's always nice to have a card on hand to let someone know that you're thinking of them!  Thanks for popping in today!

Speaking of birds (that's all I seem to be doing these days), I thought things were going to be quiet at the feeder for a while, but as I was making lunch yesterday, I glanced out the window and saw an indigo bunting!!  Again, my heart went pitter-patter!  They also migrate through on their way south, but I haven't seen one for quite a while:

I read recently that a bunting's feathers are not actually blue, it is caused by light refraction; the underside of his wing is definitely not blue, but whatever miracle of God's creation causes the rest of him to be this color, I love it!

Enjoy your day and be blessed!

"So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind.  And God saw that it was good."  Genesis 1:21

RRCB155 Rainbow Crayons

Hi peeps!  Happy Tuesday!  We've got a new Retro Rubber challenge for you:

I needed a birthday card for a sweet little girl in our church, so I pulled out some really old (2008) Cornish Heritage Farms stamps and a rainbow palette of inks and went to work:

Each crayon was stamped and fussy-cut, then I went searching among all my glimmer papers to find shades that matched and gave each one a star!  They sort of remind me of rockets, LOL!

The Whisper White mat was embossed with the Jumbo Polka Dots EF; I diecut a Stitched Shape circle and cut it in half, stamping a portion of the sentiment on it before adhering it and the crayons to the embossed piece.  The remainder of the sentiment (Right at Home, approx 2016) was colored with matching inks and a blender pen, then also fussy cut and popped up:

The sentiment from Altenew (approx 2016) was stamped in Memento Black and embellished with a few more glimmer stars:

This was a lot of fun to make and I hope she enjoys it!  I am entering this at the Always Fun Challenges this week, which is also rainbows!

I hope you'll play along with our rainbow challenge as well!  Check out what everyone else created at the Retro Rubber blog!  Remember to use stamps that are at least a year old, and give us the age of them as well!  See you there!

Speaking of rainbows, Cassidy and I dyed some Easter eggs on Saturday before we met the baby coyote:

Thanks for visiting today!  Enjoy it and be blessed!

"And God said, 'This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come:  I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.'" Genesis 9:12-13

TCC150 Happy St Patrick's Day

Happy Wednesday, peeps!  It's time for a new Card Concept challenge, where we describe our stamping style!  This is one I hope you'll find seasonal and fun:

I love the fresh colors in this inspiration photo, but the little hat is what inspired me to create my Clean and Layered card, using the Gift Givers stamp which I already had on my desk!

I stamped this little guy in Memento ink, colored him with Blends, then diecut him out and added a Gold Foil scallop layer.  The sentiment is from a really, really old set from Purple Onion, stamped in Shaded Spruce, and the layers are Bumblebee and Felicity DSP from Bo Bunny:

I also added a glimmer bow from Pretty Pines for some extra fun!  The sketch that I used is from Sketch Saturday:

I am also entering this at Always Fun Challenges; they're looking for "good luck" cards!

I hope you'll play along with our Card Concept challenge this week...even if you don't celebrate St Patrick's Day, I am sure you'll find something to inspire you!  Thanks for visiting today!

Cassidy came over Sunday afternoon and decided to make a card for her friend Avery.  She wanted to try some splatter art, so we got some craft ink, a paint brush and went to work! She had an idea to create a mask with the letters of Avery's name, then splatter paint over it.  We used the Little Letters dies and some repositionable tape to create the mask, then she splattered various colors of paint on top.  She learned how to splatter the paint by watching a YouTube video:

She even added some glitter paint!  If you look closely, you can see the letters; we dried it with my heat gun and then she peeled off the letters.  More to come this week!

Enjoy your day and be blessed!

GDP279 Get Well Hot Dog

Happy Monday, peeps!  A little late today....a lazy Monday, I guess!  The Global Design Project challenge this week is Animals, and I needed a get-well card for an elderly gentleman from our church, so I went to work!  Here's the challenge:

And here's my simple card:

I  positioned my stamp in my Stamparatus, stamped the pup on some Early Espresso cardstock once in Memento Black, cleaned the stamp, then stamped again in Versamark.  I then heat-embossed it with some Black embossing powder and fussy-cut it out.  I did cut a wee little piece of Poppy Parade for his collar:

and then stamped the sentiment on another scrap and punched it out with the Balloon Punch. I totally messed up the "highlight" of the balloon with my white gel pen; hopefully my friend won't notice too much!  I sponged it around the edges for some dimension, then added an embroidery floss bow and string:

The plaid paper is from a 6x6" pad called Pleasant from Authentique, and it's mounted on a Very Vanilla card. And since the challenge from Always Fun is "Anything Goes", I'm going to pop it in there as well!  Thanks for popping in today!

This little bluebird was quite friendly this morning and let me take several shots of him through my patio door:

He even stopped for a drink at the bird bath:

It's pretty unusual to have bluebirds all winter long, but we have had several pairs stay here this winter!  I love them!

Enjoy your day and be blessed!

"Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.  Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies.  Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it." Psalm 34:11-14

RRCB151 Black, White and Red

Hey there peeps!  It's time for a new Retro Rubber Challenge where we use stamps that are at least a year old!  Here's our awesome challenge for this week:

I love black, white and red; I think it's a very elegant color combo, but I went in a different direction this week!  My sweet friend Colleen inspired me to pull out my Apron of Love (2018) bundle for today's card. She is always a great source of inspiration (as well as new purchases!) for me! Check it out:

This bundle, like so many, was only available for such a short time that I just never got to use it to its full potential!  The set of dies is chock full of fun little doodads, so I was able to use some of them on my card today!  I started by printing out a digital black gingham in a small check and diecutting the apron from it.  I just continued to add embellishments like the red-trimmed pocket, the hearts, the little banners and the silver scissors:

I used a Tasteful Labels die to diecut the sentiments:

and I used the Perfectly Wrapped (2017) for the inside:

I mounted everything on a stitched rectangle of Basic Gray and adhered it to my Whisper White card front! I just love how this turned out!  Thanks, Colleen for the inspiration!   And since this will be going to a friend, I am entering it at Always Fun Challenges, where their challenge is to make a card for a friend!

I hope you'll play along using our inspiration photo as well!  Just be sure to tell us how old your stamps are...give those older ones some love!  Thanks for popping in today!

Here are a few more pix from the Valentine project:

Stay tuned for more!

Encouragement Cards

Happy Saturday, peeps!  I have three really quick cards today.  My TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) group is having a challenge this month and we are to send notes, texts or emails to encourage each other throughout the week! Well, of course, I would choose to send some notes.  I need to make several, so I first decided to use the one-layer challenge at Always Fun to create some real simple cards using a really "retro" stamp from Cornish Heritage Farms called Weighty Matters!  Here we go:

Now remember, these are uber-simple...stamps, ink and paper (and a die and a punch) so keep that in mind!  I just love the image of this well-dressed lady freaking out at her weight....but her German shepherd doesn't seem to realize he's the cause of her distress!  She was stamped in Merry Merlot, and I used the new Stitched With Whimsy die on the front of the card for some interest.

The smaller card uses this funny pup image, gazing forlornly at the number on the scale:

I added a sentiment from the same set and some little doggie prints from the new Hot Dog sest, then added these on the inside:

And I'm going to pop one more in here....this was made with the Tailored Tag punch and some pretty coordinating DSPs....again, very simple but easy!  The sentiment is from the retired Sweet Stuff:

Hopefully they'll give my friends some encouragement!  Thanks for popping in today! Enjoy your day and be blessed!
