Wisconsin Scott Walker is running scared from the Blue Wave.

Courtesy of CNN:

On Tuesday night, it happened again.

Democrat Patty Schachtner beat Republican Adam Jarchow for a western Wisconsin state Senate seat that had been held by a Republican since 2000 and in a district that President Donald Trump won handily in 2016.

Schachtner's win marked the first Republican-to-Democrat switch at the state legislative level of 2018 but it is the 34th state legislative seat pickup for Democrats since the start of 2017. That trend is beginning to rightly alarm smart Republicans.

I don't know if you could actually put Scott Walker in the smart category, but he is certainly deep into the alarmed category.
Damn! You can almost smell the panic.

Walker's policy decisions have been devastating for the people of Wisconsin, and he was so afraid of this voters that he tried to change the law to get out of holding two special elections.

So yes, he has every reason to fear the Blue Wave.

Hey, maybe he IS in the smart category.

Ted Nugent claims that Parkland students have "no soul."

Courtesy of Mediaite:

Appearing on Newsmax’s The Joe Pags Show, the guitarist/conservative commentator let host Joe Pagliarulo know what he thought about the Parkland shooting survivors who have become outspoken gun reform activists. And, umm, yeah.

Describing them as “poor mushy brained children who have been fed lies” and that they’re “committing spiritual suicide” by recommending gun control, Nugent went so far as to label David Hogg and others as lacking a soul.

After Pagliarulo played some clips of Hogg and Emma Gonzalez speaking out against the NRA on CNN, Nugent railed against the media, liberals and the kids.

“The dumbing down of America is manifested in the culture deprivation of our academia that have taught these kids the lies, media that have prodded and encouraged and provided these kids lies,” the ‘Wang Dang Sweet Poontang’ singer exclaimed. “I really feel sorry for them because it’s not only ignorant and dangerously stupid, but it’s soulless.”

He continued, “To attack the good law-abiding families of America when well known predictable murderers commit these horrors is deep in the category of soulless. These poor children, I’m afraid to say this and it hurts me to say this, but the evidence is irrefutable, they have no soul.”

So it's a little hard to follow the theme here, but I think that what Nugent is trying to say here is that children fighting to protect others from gun violence are soulless.

Because you know, THAT makes all kinds of sense.

You know I think ole "Poopy pants" here dropped an extra load in his drawers after watching of these kids on social media, and is a blind panic that they actually might help to pass laws that will keep him from accessing the military style weapons, flame throwers, and rocket launchers that he needs to help him feel like a REAL man.

EPA head Scott Pruitt says he cannot fly commercial because people are mean to him.

Courtesy of Time:

The head of the Environmental Protection Agency has broken months of silence about his frequent premium-class flights at taxpayer expense, saying he needs to fly first class because of unpleasant interactions with other travelers.

EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt spoke about his flight costs on Tuesday in a pair of interviews in New Hampshire, following a first-class flight to meet with the state’s Republican governor and tour a toxic waste site.

Pruitt told the New Hampshire Union Leader he had some “incidents” on flights shortly after his appointment by President Donald Trump last year.

“We live in a very toxic environment politically, particularly around issues of the environment,” said Pruitt, who confirmed to the newspaper that he had flown first class from Washington to Boston before continuing on to New Hampshire. “We’ve reached the point where there’s not much civility in the marketplace and it’s created, you know, it’s created some issues and the (security) detail, the level of protection is determined by the level of threat.”

The article goes on to remind us that Pruitt is the first EPA chief to have 24 hour security, and that he spent $25,000 on a soundproof booth so that nobody can listen in on his phone calls, and is spending $3,000 to have his office swept for listening devices.

Okay I do not want to hear one more slack jawed conservative calling liberals "snowflakes" ever again.

This guy is essentially afraid of his own shadow.

White men having trouble economically are more likely to become emotionally attached to their guns and consider using them against the government.

Courtesy of Baylor Media Communications:

White male gun owners who have lost, or fear losing, their economic footing tend to feel morally and emotionally attached to their guns, according to a Baylor University study.

This segment of the population also is most likely to say that violence against the United States government is sometimes justified, reported researchers F. Carson Mencken, Ph.D., and Paul Froese, Ph.D., professors of sociology in Baylor’s College of Arts & Sciences.

“This speaks to the belief in some ‘dark state’ within the government which needs fighting,” Froese said.

“What’s paradoxical is that white male gun owners in the U.S. see themselves as hyper-patriotic, but they are the first to say, ‘If the government impedes me, I have the moral and almost patriotic right to fight back.’”

In contrast, nonwhite gun owners who have faced or may be coping with financially difficult times do not place as much importance on the gun, researchers found. They also are much less likely to approve of violence against the federal government even if they feel high levels of economic stress.

And that my friends is why domestic terrorism is far more concerning than anything that may come at us from a foreign land.

White men, heavily armed, and terrified that they are losing their place of prominence in society, are essentially a powder keg just waiting for a spark to set them off.

They may have believed that by voting Donald Trump into office that they would no longer have to worry about women, minorities, and immigrants negatively impacting their ability to find work, but when they discover that nothing of consequence has changed they may become even more radicalized and potentially dangerous.

I'm sorry to start the morning this way but you really need to read this conversation that Robert Reich had with a former Republican Congressman. Update!

If you read this on your phone while lying in bed, you might as well get up now because there is no going to sleep after reading that.

Update: For those reading this on their phone:

White Nationalists in Kentucky plan super secret protest against the removal of Confederate statues.

Courtesy of the Lexington Herald-Leader:

White nationalist groups might hold a flash demonstration in Lexington to protest moving two Confederate statues from the lawn of the former Fayette County courthouse instead of a publicly announced rally, according to an organizer.

Matthew Heimbach, chairman of a white nationalist group called the Traditionalist Worker Party, told the Herald-Leader last week that his group and others were planning a rally in Lexington to oppose the removal of statues in downtown Lexington. When asked this week whether he had picked a date for the event, though, Heimbach said it probably will be a “flash demo.”

He confirmed that that meant an event with no public announcement of the time or place.

“As long as we don’t block the street, we should be OK,” Heimbach said.

Heimbach's fear apparently is that if they publicize the protest that counter protesters will show up and say mean things about them until they get their little traitorous feelings hurt.

You may also remember that 37 pro-Trump rallies were called off over fear of conflicts.

Much like the confederate soldiers that they seem to emulate these men are clearly ready to wave the white flag before there is a chance of any real conflict.

I am not sure that these people in Kentucky clearly understand the purpose of a protest.

The whole idea is to draw attention, including media attention, to your cause.

I don't think that a super secret, over in a flash, rally has any real chance of accomplishing that.

You know these racists actually could just all stay home and then claim online that they HAD a rally, thousands showed up, and nobody got hurt.

Just a thought.

The man behind Trump Junior's meetup with the Russians is now in fear for his life. Update:

Courtesy of Fox News:

Goldstone, a PR man for recording artists who set up the meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian attorney who promised dirt on Hillary Clinton, reportedly fears for his own safety. The 57-year-old British flack is globetrotting with his much-younger companion, and posting photos from around the world on social media to “hide in plain sight,” according to reports.

Photos posted online since the trip began last month in London haveshown them in Venice, Croatia, Montenegro and Greece. Goldstone is currently believed to be aboard a ship in the Mediterranean, with his lover and business partner David Wilson.

He fears that if he turns up dead, it will be no accident, The Express reported, citing a longtime colleague. Goldstone’s strategy, according to Geoff Baker, also a British publicist, is to avoid New York and Russia and let everyone know where he is all the time.

“I believe the reason he's being so blatantly transparent about his whereabouts is that, if anything does happen to him - like a car crash or being stabbed by a poison-tipped umbrella - everyone will know his death was no accident,' Baker told the newspaper.

I think this is smart, especially since everybody knows how Putin deals with inconvenient witnesses.

Especially considering the fact that Peter W. Smith, the GOP operative who reached out to the Russians for those Hillary emails, died in rather suspicious circumstances.

I think this Goldstone guy ought to seek witness protection and then start singing like a canary to the Feds.

Update: For those getting an "Access Denied" message from that Fox News link, here is essentially the same story from The Express.

"I don't want you to get shooted." Heartbreaking video of Philando Castile's girlfriend and her daughter minutes after he was fatally shot by police.

Courtesy of Law Newz:

In the aftermath of Officer Jeronimo Yanez‘s acquittal after fatally shooting Philando Castile, new material related to the case continues to be released.

Just this morning, Tony Webster, an independent journalist and researcher from Minnesota, provided video obtained via a FOIA request of Castile’s girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, in the back of a squad car with her four-year-old daughter in the immediate moments after Castile was gunned down.

The video is harrowing, hard to watch, and contains strong language. Reynolds can be heard screaming, at whichh point her four-year-old daughter Dae’Anne then rises to the occasion to console her grieving mother, saying, “Please don’t scream because I don’t want you to get shooted … I can keep you safe … I wish this town was safer.”

That is hard to watch I don't care who you are.

Children should never be terrified of the police, but clearly in this case this little girl has every reason to fear them, and to fear for the safety of her mother.

She just watched the man who she probably thought of as her father shot to death right in front of her eyes.

Why? Because he was exercising his 2nd Amendment rights while black.

And perhaps the worst part is that the man who murdered him, walked away scott free.

As Trevor Noah pointed out the other night, if this were a white man the NRA would be so far up that police department's ass they could watch their breakfast digest.

But not for a black man, for a black man legally carrying a firearm is a potential death sentence.

I think Dan Rather speaks for all of us. Update: Roger Ailes has died.

Courtesy of Rather's Facebook page:

I end each of my days with a silent prayer for my country. It has been a ritual for some time, but as of late I feel an anxiety gripping my heart and a sadness permeating my soul that seems unlike anything I have felt before.

I hope against hope as I slip off to sleep that our rapid descent into governmental chaos has hit a nadir - only to awaken to a new set of incoherent tweets or explosive headlines from top-notch reporters. And with that, we are falling once again. As I fall, we fall, even further, I pray again that our Constitutional government, the great gift of our Founding Fathers, will provide a safety net to catch us before everything we hold dear is no more. I believe that is the case, but the slowly rising level of uncertainty is not to be ignored.

I see recklessness where we need leadership... and I am deeply saddened.

I see politicians putting power and politics over principle... and I am incredulous.

I see lies treated as truths... and I am disgusted.

I see justice denied and likely obstructed.... and I am fearful.

I see norms flaunted... and I am angry.

I see global challenges going unaddressed... and I am worried.

I see the press under attack... and I am furious.

I see this, and more, so much more... and I am exhausted.

I find myself returning in my mind to dark days from the past, trying to remember how we as a nation felt, when Pearl Harbor was attacked, when Kennedy was shot, when Watergate took down a President, when terrorists rained terror from the skies. We somehow overcame. And I do believe that we shall overcome, someday. Perhaps, hopefully, someday soon.

But in the end, prayer will not be enough. Action, sustained action, will be required.

I could not have said it better.

Update: Yes Roger Ailes, founder of Fox News, and the man who almost single- handedly destroyed journalism in this country has died.

I find it somewhat ironic that he died on the same day that I scheduled this Dan Rather post to publish, since Ailes was instrumental in helping to destroy Rather's career.

I imagine it is somewhat satisfying for Rather to have lived long enough to see Bill O'Reilly fired, Roger Ailes pass from this earth, and the president that Fox News helped to elect facing possible impeachment.

Just like the Secretary of Education, the new head of the EPA is demanding additional security.

Okay was that a gunshot? Did anybody else hear a gunshot? I need some more damn security.
Courtesy of Quartz:

The administrator of the US Environmental Protection Agency, historically, has had some measure of government-funded personal security detail. Agents routinely picked Gina McCarthy from the airport, for example, or accompanied her on site visits during her time as EPA administrator from July 2013 to Jan 2017. But Scott Pruitt, the new EPA chief, wishes to be guarded 24/7.

While the draft budget for the EPA obtained by the Washington Post this month shows massive cuts to environment, health, and climate change programs—including the elimination of a program to prevent childhood exposure to lead paint—it also includes a request to hire 10 additional security guards to create an around-the-clock personal security detail for Pruitt, the New York Times reports.

The Times calls it a first for an EPA chief, and notes that the 10 additional agents would more than double the agency’s current security staff, which has hovered between six and eight agents in recent years. Similarly, security detail for education secretary Betsy DeVos has reached unprecedented levels: Typically, the secretary of education is guarded by about six agents from within the Department of Education. Since her contentious confirmation, DeVos has been under the protection of the US Marshals Service, costing $8 million over eight months.

So we reported earlier on the request from Betsy DeVos for additional security after she was blocked by a protester from entering a school, which seems completely unnecessary, but what in the hell does an EPA chief have to fear?

This just makes me wonder at the severity of the policies that Betsy DeVos and Scott Pruitt are planning for their agencies.

If they believe they will result in attempts on their lives, that should give all of us pause.

Here is more of that poor man dragged off of United Airlines the other day.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

Yet another video has emerged of the man who was violently dragged off a United Airlines flight on Sunday, and it shows that the passenger’s face was covered in his own blood.

The video shows the man leaning up against the doorway between first-class and economy seating, while he repeatedly says, “Just kill me” and “I have to go home.”

Okay this poor man was clearly NOT the right person for United to choose to take off the plane that day.

He seems incredibly disoriented and is clearly terrified of the police.

Oh and that bloody mouth is NOT from "accidentally" hitting his face on an armrest.

I predict a HUGE lawsuit in United Airlines' future.

By the way here is how this incident affected United Airline's stock prices.

Watch Donald Trump flee executive order signing ceremony without actually signing the document.

Courtesy of Slate:

President Trump gathered the press on Friday to sign two new executive orders on trade. He spoke very positively about what he was going to sign. "Thank you everybody," he said from the podium. "You're going to be seeing some very, very strong results very, very quickly. Thank you very much."

The commander in chief immediately sought out the door, and seemingly couldn’t get out of the room fast enough. Never mind that he hadn’t actually signed anything.

Vice President Mike Pence seems to have noticed the president’s mistake and ran after him. Trump appears to gesture that he wants the orders to be brought to him so Pence then goes to the desk and picks up the orders so the commander in chief can sign them in another room. That’s not quite how things usually work, considering Trump likes to have the press take photos of him signing executive orders.

Did you notice Pence trying to get his boss to stay in the room only to be sent to fetch the document like the trained poodle that we know him to be?

What what made Trump cut and run like that?

That becomes clear when you watch this alternative tape of the event.

Did you hear that reporter asking about Michael Flynn?

THAT seems to be what triggered Trump's flight response, and it essentially proves that the whole Flynn debacle has him very on edge.

And who can blame him?

After all Michael Flynn "has a story to tell."

Thursday, March 02, 2017

Just a video I found of Hillary Clinton being a bad ass while her Secret Service detail tackles a protester.

I had never seen this before, and I found it on this Newsweek story about the Secret Service response to Trump being found unfit to hold office.

So I watched it several times and I was just really struck with how cool and calm Hillary was while this guy is getting taken down by her security staff during a campaign rally.

And that then reminded me of this clip from back in August.
Once again she is essentially unflappable.

Now compare both of those to this:

Quite a difference isn't it?

It takes a certain kind of person to be the leader of the free world. And clearly it is a person very unlike Donald Trump.

Intelligence agencies in THIS country are not the only ones monitoring communications between Trump advisers and the Russians.

Okay let me get this straight, EVERYBODY'S spying on me?
Courtesy of Newsweek:

As part of intelligence operations being conducted against the United States for the last seven months, at least one Western European ally intercepted a series of communications before the inauguration between advisers associated with President Donald Trump and Russian government officials, according to people with direct knowledge of the situation.

The sources said the interceptions include at least one contact between former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn and a Russian official based in the United States. It could not be confirmed whether this involved the telephone call with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak that has led to Flynn’s resignation, or additional communications. The sources said the intercepted communications are not just limited to telephone calls: The foreign agency is also gathering electronic and human source information on Trump’s overseas business partners, at least some of whom the intelligence services now consider to be agents of their respective governments. These operations are being conducted out of concerns that Russia is seeking to manipulate its relationships with Trump administration officials as part of a long-term plan to destabilize the NATO alliance.

Moreover, a Baltic nation is gathering intelligence on officials in the Trump White House and executives with the president’s company, the Trump Organization, out of concern that an American policy shift toward Russia could endanger its sovereignty, according to a third person with direct ties to that nation’s government.

This is what Trump and his supporters fail to understand.

What is happening here is terrifying, not just the liberals and anti-Trump folks, but the ENTIRE world.

So while Trump attacks the media and intelligence agency leakers in this country....

.....he seems unable to fathom that there is still more information coming from other countries who fear that his presidency puts THEM in jeopardy as well.

Here is what one CIA veteran told Vox about Donald Trump:

We are facing the gravest threat to our institutions and our government since 1861, since the country broke in half. This is a graver crisis than Watergate, which was about corruption, not the usurpation of our laws and our checks and balances. It's graver than World War II, when Hitler never actually threatened our institutions or occupation of Washington.

So this goes back to 1861. It's a huge societal and institutional crisis. We're dealing with a man in Trump who doesn't accept a fact-based reality, who only acts for his own self-aggrandizement, and who views any action that does not serve him as a threat that must be destroyed. And, on top of that, his team appears to have been colluding with Russian intelligence services.

This is a massive crisis for our norms and our Constitution, and we have to say so.

Well I think that pretty much says it all.

House Republicans have become terrified of their own town halls.

Courtesy of Politico:

House Republicans during a closed-door meeting Tuesday discussed how to protect themselves and their staffs from protesters storming town halls and offices in opposition to repealing Obamacare, sources in the room told Politico.

House GOP Conference Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers invited Rep. David Reichert, a former county sheriff, to present lawmakers with protective measures they should have in place. Among the suggestions: having a physical exit strategy at town halls, or a backdoor in congressional offices to slip out of, in case demonstrations turn violent; having local police monitor town halls; replacing any glass office-door entrances with heavy doors and deadbolts; and setting up intercoms to ensure those entering congressional offices are there for appointments, not to cause chaos.

“The message was: One, be careful for security purposes. Watch your back. And two, be receptive. Honor the First Amendment, engage, be friendly, be nice,” said Republican Study Committee Chairman Mark Walker (R-N.C.). “Because it is toxic out there right now. Even some of the guys who have been around here a lot longer than I have, have never seen it to this level.”

He later added: “For those of us who have children in grade school and that kind of thing, there’s a factor in all of this, saying: How far will the progressive movement go to try to intimidate us?”

The conference discussion comes as Democratic activists around the nation ramp up protests against Republican efforts to repeal Obamacare. Protesters have disrupted town halls and other public events, jeering and yelling at Republicans just as conservatives did to Democrats when they were writing the law eight years ago. Conservative protesters in 2009 and 2010 were accused of spitting on and hurling racial epithets at Democratic lawmakers ahead of their votes to pass Obamacare. Republicans denied the accusations at the time.

Yeah like the article says Democrats have already been through all of this in 2009 and 2010.

And now it is time for the Republicans to learn the meaning of "What goes around, comes around."

The one part of the article that really  bothered me was this chairman suggesting that the children of these Representatives might be endangered or that there was a fear of violence concerning the passion coming from the Left.

We, all of us who attend these town halls, must take great pains in making sure that our justifiable anger and frustration does not present itself, or seem to present itself, as violent in nature or as anything that should be feared.

Yes we can be loud,

Yes we can be insistent.

Yes we can demand answers to questions from our Representatives in Congress.

But no we cannot threaten or harm these people, or their families, in order to further our agenda.

After all we are liberals, and liberals use facts to bludgeon our opponents into submission.

Let's just make sure we have plenty of facts in our arsenal.

Anti-Obamacare Republican Congressman complains that "women are in my grill no matter where I go." Get used to it bub!

Dave Brat, terrified of women.
Courtesy of Think Progress:

Congressman Dave Brat (R-VA) is a big opponent of the Affordable Care Act, which is why he’s proposed one of the many substandard replacements for what can replace Obamacare when Congress repeals it, as he hopes it does. In the meantime, however, his constituents are rather concerned about losing their coverage, and he’s doing his best to ignore them.

“Since Obamacare and these issues have come up, the women are in my grill no matter where I go,” Brat told a meeting of conservative groups on Saturday. He explained that they’re always pestering him about when his next town hall will be — “and believe me, it’s not to give positive input.”

One of the reasons Brat is avoiding his constituents is because he’s convinced himself that they’re paid activists. “I had one woman on my Facebook say she was going to get up in my grill,” he told the Richmond Times-Dispatch, using the same line as he did at the meeting. “There’s paid protesters…paid activists on the far left, not my Democratic friends I go to church with. They’re being paid to go around and raise havoc.”

Brat didn’t offer any context as to who he thinks is paying these protesters, nor did he seem to acknowledge that they are his actual constituents.

I have to say as a male right now I am in awe of the women in America.

The election of Donald Trump has fired them like I have never seen before, and they have become an almost irresistible force of nature.

I'll tell you one thing, I sure would not want to be standing in their way right now.

And I would not be at all surprised to see a number of women win local and national elections in 2018, and for a female to finally win the White House in 2020.

Decisively.

Damn that would be great, wouldn't it?

The election of Donald Trump fills Bruce Springsteen with fear.

Courtesy of CNN:

Rock music icon Bruce Springsteen, a high-profile Democratic donor, questioned President-elect Donald Trump's competency in an interview published Monday.

"I've felt disgust before, but never the kind of fear that you feel now," Springsteen told Marc Maron on his WTF podcast. "It's as simple as the fear of, is someone simply competent enough to do this particular job? Do they simply have the pure competence to be put in the position of such responsibility?"

Springsteen said he is afraid of what he sees as the effect Trump has had on the future of the US.

"When you let that genie out of the bottle -- bigotry, racism, intolerance, they don't go back in the bottle that easily if they go back in at all," he said. "Whether it's a rise in hate crimes, people feeling they have license to speak and behave in ways that previously were considered un-American and are un-American. That's what he's appealing to. My fears are that those things find a place in ordinary, civil society."

Springsteen goes on to say that there are good people who voted for Trump, though I often have trouble seeing that, but that there were others with an "agenda."  I will assume that he is referring to the racists.

Springsteen is a multimillionaire who will easily survive this Trump presidency.

But he is also very attached to the working class mentality, so when he says he is afraid he is likely channeling a fear that he has for those people whose lives will be dramatically impacted by what Trump does in these next four years.

It will be interesting to see how many of those folks, who believed they were voting for change in our political system, respond to the kind of corruption that will surely permeate every policy decision that Donald Trump makes.

If they thought politics was ugly before, they have not seen anything yet.

Monday, December 05, 2016

I know this is just a comic, but seriously this is a good idea.

The rational side of me thinks "No way would Donald Trump actually start a nuclear war."

But then the irrational side of me remembers that it was the side that was right in thinking he would be elected, and that makes the rational side of me wet its pants just a little.

One industry is already suffering due to the election of Donald Trump. The gun industry.

Courtesy of CNN Money:

What happened? Trump was endorsed by the National Rifle Association and was the clear favorite of white, rural, gun-loving America.

But the stock prices for Sturm, Ruger (RGR) and Smith & Wesson (SWHC) have both dropped by more than 20% since Trump won.

The problem is that gun lovers are losing their biggest boogeyman: Hillary Clinton, who would have continued President Barack Obama's pursuit of gun control legislation.

She was so reviled by the industry that Ruger CEO Michael Fifer described her in August as "actively campaigning against the lawful commerce in arms." At the same time, his company reported a 19% spike in quarterly sales, fueled by fear of Clinton.

Before the election, "there was a widespread expectation that Hillary would win and some gun retailers began to stock up, expecting strong demand surge from the prospect of tightening gun control under a Hillary Clinton administration," said Rommel Dionisio, a gun industry analyst for Wunderlich Securites.

That's right folks, without the fear of the "gun grabbers"coming to take away their penis extenders ammosexuals just don't buy that many guns.

This is an industry that literally relies on the cowardice of its customer base.

If these sad little crybabies did not live in fear that any minute somebody was going to break into their house and beat their chubby little ass before stealing their beer can collection they would probably never buy a single gun.

But now that Donald Trump claims he is deporting all of the Mexicans and Muslims (You know, terrorists.), who do they have to fear anymore?

If the NRA had been smart they would have either stayed out of the election process altogether or endorsed Hillary Clinton who was the one candidate they knew would keep guns flying off the shelves.
